Why sabsatrangi is different?

There are many aspects of this show that is commendable which makes it different from rest of the ITV shows. Take out your popcorn and coldrinks as it is pretty long.🤣

1. Women taking leading position whether it's daadi being head of the maurya family, kanak being the matriarch of the family, or now gargi taking over daddy's business. Show is doing great in showing women empowerment without giving on-face gyaan about feminism.
2. Going along with the last line of above para is that sabsatrangi always has underlay message which is mostly situational instead of social. Yeah, it's true that a show or a movie should have a message but nowadays, most of the shows convey message on-face which makes them preachy , at times annoying to watch and decreases the essence and impact of the story. But that's not the case here, as this show subtly touch many social issues with some awesome dialogues and dayashankar Pandey's narration makes it even more delight to watch.
3. If females have shown to take the lead, then men are shown to happily accepting the backseat in the family. Men like Manu and shyamlal time and again shows their vulnerability and don't feel embarrassed to show their naivety in front of ladies instead of acting all macho. In fact, diwakarji's (kanak's husband) is stressed due to his stuck possession of home and its effect on his health are also mentioned few days back. Overall, sabsatrangi did touch the emotional turmoil of men instead of always showing them tough.
4. Whether it's gargi loving vishwas and determined to be with him despite being married or shyamlal's friendship with urmila, there is a subtle tone of extra marital affair. But they did give a justification instead of showing a casual affair for a comic relief. Along with it, these bonds are always called out by different characters in the show. Hence they never overtly promote the extra marital affair just to sound woke or liberal.
5. There is no black and white characters, all are grey and have flaws. You can see Deepu being selfish, pinky being jealous, gargi's wrong judgement regarding vishwas or daddy's at times wrong ways obviously with positive intentions.
6. There is no typical saas-bahu conspiracy theories. Never saw daadi or kanak doing emotional blackmail or going against gargi just because she is daughter in law. Obviously there is disagreements, complains, and fights like a normal family but no ott family drama.
7. In the age of growing love marriages, divorces, casual hookups and one night stands for instant gratification, this show is showing a arrange marriage setup where husband and wife are gradually developing their relationship.
8. Last but not the least, cinematography is quite impressive. Location is nothing but a simple home but with lighting, they do create a apt and beautiful atmosphere. In fact, in initial episodes the whole set up of daddy's home and a pool which was shot in Lucknow was so beautiful.

5. Characters

I would say they are all real. Majority of characters in ITVshows (I’ve watched) are actually one-dimensional types of characters –good, bad, grey, naive, funny, without obvious motive or circumstances that justify their actions. Here we see real people who are good in general, but sometimes weak, sometimes strong, sometimes wrong, depending on the circumstances. Motives and feelings that drive them are beautifully shown through dialogues.

6/7. Relationships

Characters in this show are changing and growing through relationships– it’s again so real. And relationships are beautiful, they give an example of what family relationships should be like. Subtle social message is again conveyed through father/son, father/daughter, husband/wife, FIL/MIL/BIL/SIL/DILrelationships. Three husband/wife couples are all different and believable, that’s charm of this show. I love that Sab Satrangi spreads positivity and affirms family.

Mannu and Gargi growing feelings are based on trust and friendship. They didn’t become found of each other due to a series of accidental touches (you know, usually bumpinginto each other, or slipping into his arms), but because they had to deal with issues together, actually to live together.

8. Cinematography Sab Satrangi presents dynamic, vivid picture of real people lives. The credit for that goes to the director, screenwriters,editors, actors, costume designers, everyone… Maurya family house is simple,but it looks nice and warm. There is a lot of realistic details in Mannu’s room (cleaning agents, iron and ironing board), but no kitsch details (like in majority ITV houses). Vivid atmosphere at the streets, beautiful landscape at the picnic, or special lighting complement the story.

Finally,I want to point out two things - all the actors are really good, so convincing.They don’t pose, but really live their characters in front of us.

WhatI like a lot – it’s the clothes they’re wearing. Every character is portrayed by his clothes as well. Deepu has collection of funny, colorful T-shirts; he loves to look fashionable, as he likes to show-off. Mannu looked modest, oldfashion at the beginning ,with plaid shirts and sleeveless sweaters. As he was changing with newexperiances, his clothes also has changed – now he looks „updated“, more dynamic (and handsome too😎) in solid color shirts. Gargi wears simple but beautiful classy clothes, etc, etc...

Imean, not just acting, but every visual aspect of the show contributes to the protrayal of charachters and reality of the story, with a sense of aesthetics too.

One more that I wanted to add is that show is fast-paced. It come to the main point straightaway without going in rounds or dragging the story unnecessarily.

A sane and a real middle class family and human with flaws with no one at extreme end to glorify someone

For me, the thing that made Sab Satrangi stand out the most is its realism.

• The Maurya house is exactly like any regular Indian house. Rooms with clothes hanging from a hook, a chest with some more clothes on top of it along with a lot of other stuff, old trunks, an old almari, no attached bathrooms, peeling walls, charpis outside, a door that remains open during the day, etc. It reminds me of my Mamaji's house whenever I visit them in India.
• Daddy's house is also like any regular rich person's house. Business + home together. Better walls, nicer looking chairs, people who quickly bring family members tea and drinks, the rich man dressing up nicely but still talking in his regular old ways, etc.
• The characters aren't white or black. They aren't grey. They are just regular. They have their good and bad. Yes some are more "bad" than others, like Vishwas, but in real life they aren't called villains. They are called criminals.
• The relationships are fractured, but also strong. No one can see face to face on certain topics, but are tight knit in others. And they grow and develop over time.
• The love story isn't your typical fall and eyelock, hair blowing and eyelock, dupattas falling and eyelock, dupatta catching in watch or button and eyelock....well you get the point. Not just eyelocks.
• And the men aren't your typical alpha macho men who have no feelings and the women aren't your typical gharelu chipkalis who's only job is kitchen politics, cooking, and being superwomen.

I love that about Sab Satrangi. And I love how it moves at a reasonable pace. They could up the speed a bit. They move slowly in certain areas, but honestly I'm fine with that. I love how realistic and sweet the show is. And it's situational comedy. Not slapstick or double meaning. That really helps it stand out because along with comedy, you feel all the emotions.

Let's not forget that the background scores and all the songs they use are so apt. And it does feel so good to remember some of these older songs.

For me, the thing that made Sab Satrangi stand out the most is its realism. Well said...the whole set up is very real. Middle class home do like a middle class home, not uberly organized. I'm fact, every one's clothing is also simple especially ladies who unlike other ITV are not always so dressed up even in their sleep. Have you ever noticed that the tea cup with blue-white pattern. It is the same everytime which is very true for average Indian middle class household who spends years with same crockery and utensils. These small details adds the touch of realism.

OMG yes! And how the men wear old t-shirts or polos to bed or even outside and how the women wear simple saris for bigger occasions, salwar suits around the house, and a nightie or old suit to bed. I think they've repeated clothes several times as well. And a few of Manu's shirts look literally like they took an old suit and got it remade into a shirt.

It feels very comfortable and nice to see. Even things like how the beds aren't made of foam and bounce-able like out here in the West, but rather simple thin and hard mattresses. The wicker chairs and stools. Dadi riding around on a bicycle.
