That was a very interesting article.

This applies to real life situations and for the same reasons too, like at the workplace.

To clarify: In my original post and in my second post here, I never used the word "intelligence" or any other synonym for the term. So it's silly to make an assumption that I was questioning forum members' intelligence.

Also, there have been a mixture of comments on the forum. Some have been constructive criticisms or an opinion stated in a respectful manner. After all there's nothing wrong with saying a simple "I don't like so and so's acting" and stopping there or saying how she can improve. But some comments did take it far and were just meaningless bashing rants that poked fun at her.

Thank you for the kind and productive comments 😊

@munni: I also loved that quote about the "petulant toddlers" who get upset when they don't get what they want. It's very applicable on many parts of the internet (thanks to anonymity). However, as Swasthi said, it's applicable in real life as well 😊

Whilst the word 'intelligence' was not used it was, in my opinion, implied.

And yes, constructive critisism / positive feedback is widely used in real life. I have studied it in depth on my Masters degree. Most people will receive positive feedback during work appraisals.

As I actually did say previously, some people will misunderstand this thread. So if people go beyond the actual text and do an in depth analysis on a simple post... I can't do anything about that and change people's thinking and biases.

I believe that the line between constructive crticism and destructive criticism can be quite thin and gets even thinner in a highly emtional situation. The forum has been in such a situation for nearly a months now and therefore members views on what is what has been biased through their feelings. I agree that many members have not bashed devo even through they have criticised her acting or shared their opinion on not being able to acept her as Gopi due to various reasons. I would even say the majority of the people, who are against devo only commented in this way. However some have been bashing her quite badly. Especially in the early days and post which were meant to be threads of constructive criticism have been misued by some, which lead to them being closed. However in the end only the mods can deceide, if a thread has to be closed because of bashing. All members can do, is report the thread and let the mods make there decision. As has been pointed out to me very often I have no right to make a judgement on some posts but the mods do and if they deceide that some posts are bashing posts then I am willing to agree with them.

First of all, criticism is not bad. It helps people grow and develop. However when criticism turns into meaningless bashing, then no one benefits.

I think everyone has noticed the various comments that have been made towards a certain actress on the show. Some of the comments refer to her acting abilities (weaknesses, strengths, what we would like to see, etc). And some of the comments are just plain bashing (destructive criticism) that attacks the actress and doesn't bring a productive discussion.

To realize what is a big difference between construcitve criticism and plain bashing. Here is an article: http://expertscolumn.com/content/constructive-and-destructive-criticism

This is a good quote to summarize bashing/destructive criticism

"Destructive criticism does no one any good ...Basically it is just short** and coarse comments that have no redeeming value to anyone with language that should not be repeated within polite company. They tell you nothing and help no one."

**They're not always short though 😛

I don't see anywhere in your first post you said that some people will misunderstand this thread. Or was that assumption that should have been made.

Glad you appreciated it hun.
I understand, there's been a lot of misunderstandings lately and I'm sure some will take this thread the wrong way too.

Oh well. C'est La Vie 😛

Kristin, I agree with you that there is a fine line between the two. But I also feel that if you are not gushing about how fantastic the new girl is then you are bashed for airing your point of view. We don't all like the same actors. People should just accept that. For me bashing is to do with an actors looks or their personal life. But we should be able to express an option about her acting. I remember all the posts where Giaa was referred to as Gobi and Rashi as Rattie but they were never closed. But if you make any negative posts on the new girl they are shut straight away.

Sandy I can only speak for myself and say that I not find comments, who state respectfully that the acting of devo isn't to the liking of the person, bashing. I cannot speak for others and I hope that I have not seemed like I would think so.

I cannot really comment on the matter of threads being immediatelly closed, if they have constructive criticism of devo in it. Personally I haven't open these threads because I wasn't that interested. I am not watching SNS in the moment because of time deficit so cannot comment on her acting anyways 😆 and therefore have deceided that if I don't know what I am talking about I better should keep my mouth shut.

In regards to the old example of Gopi and Rattie. I actually remembered it like we were calling Rashi Rattie and not Rucha or at least I can say for myself that I did it like that. But doesn't matter. As I stated in moments of emotional stress the border between what is viewed as bashing and what is actually bashing get much tighter.
