Aham went back to his room. He changed and lay down in bed. He couldn't believe that Gopi was going to leave in the middle of the night. What would his mother have thought? His mother, for some reason, loved Gopi. He didn't understand why, but he was not going to let Gopi leave Modi Bhavan without letting his mother have closure on the issue.

He knew that Gopi would leave after all the marriage customs had finished. But he wanted it to be according to his and his mother's wishes. He would have loved to drop her off at the bus stand..but it would have been against his mother's wishes.

He decided to get some sleep as it would soon be sunrise.

Around 6am, Aham awoke. It was a sudden awakening. He thought to himself I should go check if Gopi is still here. What if she had ignored everything he had said.

He quickly got up and and rushed to Gopi's room. He knocked on the door…no sound. She had left again. He thought to himself that what would he tell his mother. He decided to make sure and go in and check. He opened the door….when he opened the door and stepped inside…He saw Gopi standing in front of the mirror trying to tie something , but she was in obvious pain.

Aham coughed slightly to let her know that he was there.

"Aap…itni subah…." Gopi tried to cover her head with her pallu but she couldn't instead she covered her untied dori with the rest of her pallu.

"Tum itni takleef mein kyon hoa?" Aham said.

"tak..takleef…oh..na..nahin..k.kuch bhi nahin…" Gopi answered scared.

"maine thumse kuch pucha hai..aur teek teek jawab dedo!" Aham said slightly angrily.

"Voh kya hai, kai diwali parh hath jal gaya tha…aur ab teek bhi hona laga tha, lekin kal rath jab mein darwaza kholne ki kohshish kar rahi thi…lock zor sai mere hath main laga…aur dard phir sai honai lagi"..Gopi lowered her gaze..she realized that she had this brought this pain on herself and she prepared herself to be called gawar..instead she was surprised when she heard

"lo..mein bhan dheta hoon…." Gopi looked up and realized that Aham had seen her when he came into the room….

Aham recollected that when he had walked into the room, Gopi was trying to tie the dori of her blouse..but couldn't because her right hand pained.

"nahin…teek hai..mein karloon ghi…" Gopi kept her eyes lowered.

"Dekho…tumein madat chayeh…aur main yahan parh hoon….chalo" Aham said as he moved to stand behind Gopi.

Gopi slowly lowered her pallu from her back so that Aham could tie the dori. Aham looked down and noticed how smooth her skin was….he raised his hand and his fingers grazed Gopi's skin slightly. Aham brought his hand back quickly…her skin was really smooth and soft and warm. Aham looked in the mirror in front of Gopi. Gopi had her eyes shut lightly. Aham brought his hands up again to tie the dori. When his finger touched again..Gopi straightened her shoulders. Aham noticed this…and tensed his eyebrows. Aham picked up one side of the dori with his left hand and the other with his right..and began to tie them together. His fingers kept lightly grazing Gopi's back. Aham tensed his eyebrows even more. As soon as he had tied the dori..he let go as if he had received a shock. He looked in the mirror..Gopi still had her eyes closed.

"Hoa Gaya…" Aham whispered….Gopi kept her eyes closed.

Aham moved a couple of steps back and looked at Gopi from behind…he could see the dori draping so delicately. He shook his head a little and repeated louder.."Hoa gaya…"

Gopi opened her eyes…"Dhanivadh" she whispered.

Aham..slightly nodded his head, turned around and walked out of the room…He stopped once outside the room..and turned around softly and looked back at Gopi…He looked intensely at Gopi…He whispered "Gopi" to himself and then went into thinking mode. He put his hands to his hair and moved them through it…."snap out of it Aham"…he told himself…"Kya kar rahe hoa…."..Aham shook his head …and rushed back to his room. He sat down on the sofa in his room..and buried his head into his hands…and muttered what was going on…He heard the knock on the door…and quickly said "Gopi??"

"nahin Aham Bhai ..mein Mani..aap ki green tea…." Mani said.

"wahan parh rakhdo…" Aham said as he pointed at the table in front of him.

"um..Mani..Gopi ka haath phir sai dukhne laga..Maa koa batha doh….unkoa maloom hoga kya karna hai…" Aham instructed Mani.

"teek hai bhai…" Mani smiled and walked out of the room leaving Aham in deep thought.
