Sachin Khurana, the name inspires charm, exuberance of youth. He is Mr Graviera'96. Sachin Khurana a straightforward and down to earth person is a true Delhite. Having completed his Xth from SpringDales, Dhaula Kuan, he went on to complete his schooling from GHPS, Vasant Vihar. He achieved his degree in commerce from Hindu College, Delhi University. But life had planned something much more for him. His journey into the glamorous world of modelling began eight years ago. Sachin Khurana has come a long way since then. With the prestigious Mr. Graviera title to his name, things can only get better for Sachin Khurana. Despite his hectic schedule, he readily agreed to meet us and share his experiences with us. Here are the excerpts of the conversation we had with him

How did modelling happen to you ?
It was purely coincidental. I was in college when my elder brother's friend Suvo Das, who is a professional photographer, spotted me. On his insistence I got my portfolio done by him. In fact I was very lean at that time so only face shots were taken .

Which was your first campaign?
I did my first campaign for Charlie Jeans way back in 92-93. It was done by Jasmer, which is also a big name in the modelling world now, and I was paid 500 bucks for that. Though the amount was not a big one , it meant a lot , as it was a breakthrough for me.

How did you prepare yourself for Mr. Graviera contest?
I worked out extensively to be in the best physical shape. The next thing was to choose the right attire for the three categories i.e. formals, casuals and the Indian ethnic. I felt that if one had the right clothes designed for them, it gave them a cutting edge over the other participants. I became more aware about the happenings around and kept myself updated with the latest . I did not take any formal training for the contest although now we have many training institutes specializing in this field. It was sheer hardwork…but the end result was well worth all the effort put in !!!!

What was the final question asked to you which ultimately won you the title?

I was asked to describe myself in one word and I replied "ALIVE".

How do you think the contest has changed over the years?

The contest has changed in many ways. The name itself has changed from Mr. Graviera to Mr. Grasim. Its being organized with a bigger budget now with more and more sponsors willing to come forward. The main sponsors of the show, the Aditya Birla Group , have a lot to do with the way the contest has now changed. The prize money has been increased from One lakh to three lakhs. The participants now have a choice of getting their clothes designed themselves.

How did you feel after winning the contest ?

I could not believe it initially. But when I got up the next morning and when I saw the beautiful trophy lying next to me, the newspaper reports, all that made me realize that " Yes I have won it!!!."

Sachin tell us the difference between Ramp modelling and Commercial modelling?

There's a lot of difference between the two. Ramp modelling is more demanding. You are in front of live audiences and you get to know their response immediately. There is no scope for a goof up whereas in commercial modelling you can be a bit relaxed although it is demanding as well. You can have retakes and all that. Though I enjoy both immensely, my prefered choice remains ramp modelling.

What do you do for relaxation or how you keep yourself fit?

Well, I go for a jog sometimes to relax or may just go to the gym. I am a fitness freak and follow a strict schedule regarding my workouts. I sweat it out in the gym for an hour and a half daily. I eat nutritious and healthy food and Junk food is a big no no for me.

Does Competition worry you?

Not really, rather it helps me. It makes me work harder, to be more fit and definitely makes me a whole lot more focussed.
Tell us about your latest Assignments.
I have done campaigns for LG electronics, Ponds Dreamflower and Hero Honda Splendor. Besides these I have just finished one campaign for Airtel. A few exciting offers are on the cards.
What are your future plans?

I never plan anything and moreover I am a happy go lucky kind of a person. Besides this I am concentrating on good and prestigious modelling assignments.

Anything you would like to say to aspiring models

Work hard , and I would like to add my favorite one-liner " May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
