Ranjib Mazumder

The set of Saat Phere- Saloni Ka Safar has become a lover's paradise. We are talking about husband wife duo Sharad and Keerti Kelkar who are spending most of their time together on the sets of Saat Phere. Apparently, most of the co-stars of the show are not happy with the couple's frequent public displays of affection while on the sets. Also, since the two share a make up room, they take hours to get ready and make the other actors wait for them.

Reveals an insider, "The funny thing is that even the lead actress Rajshri Thakur has to wait for the couple. Although she has never voiced her displeasure, the discontentment is very evident on her face. As Keerti has a miniscule role in the show, she finishes her shoot very early. Sharad being the lead actor has to put in more shooting hours; but Keerti always waits for him. So, the lovey dovey equation continues for the entire day. In fact, the creative team plans to bump off Keerti's character from the show in the coming weeks."

The source continues, "Sharad and Keerti are so much into each other that they have been getting on nerves of other co-actors. They come together and share the same make-up room where they take hours to get ready. Moreover, their intimacy has become an eyesore for the people present on the sets. No one has the guts to say anything against them because Sharad won't bear any comment against them."

Keerti says, "I don't think anyone from the cast has a problem with us. Most of them are very sweet. I never take too much time to get ready as I finish my make-up while I am on my way to the sets. I am really annoyed as these rumours are just meant to malign us."

What about her character Devika being scrapped from the show ? "If they want to scrap my character, I don't have any problem with it. I will be relieved as I am really looking forward to a much-needed break in my life," adds Keerti.

'We received rough treatment'

Keerti on romancing husband Sharad Kelkar and planning a long due break.

How is it playing a negative role in 'Saat Phere' (Zee)?

It's good fun. Playing goody-goody can get boring at times. Though Chandni, my character, is negative she has a definite reason to be so. She believes that her father was ruined and her twin sister died because of this particular family.

How is it to have your husband Sharad Kelkar as your co-star in the show?

It's said that one must not mix work with pleasure. But I contradict that. Since I have my spouse with me, it does not get tiring. We spend our free moments together. There are other couples including Sai Deodhar and Shakti Anand ('Ek Ladki Anjaani Si') and Gauri Pradhan-Hiten Tejwani ('Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) who are doing the same. Working with my hubby brings a breath of fresh air in the routine.

Then, you must have enjoyed the 'Nach Baliye' experience.

No! It was not a good experience at all. We are celebrities. You you cannot be rude to us in front of the public, which holds us in esteem. We would rehearse at night and work during the day. Yet, we were criticised harshly. I even wept on the show twice, which was again captured on camera for public viewing. We received rough treatment.

Has marriage been the best thing for you?

Yes! I recommend marriage to all. I had heard about marriages being made in heaven. It's definitely true in our case. Sharad is calm and an understanding guy as much as he is naughty. After a tiff, I can patao him in 15 minutes while it takes him at least three hours to manao me. We still behave as girlfriend-boyfriend. Since our marriage, he hasn't allowed me to stay back at my parents' place even once. He promptly comes to pick me up at night.

Would you like to change anything about him?

His sleeping habits. He can fall off to sleep in an instant while I like to chat. Also, he spends most of his time with the play station or TV. I wish I could do away with that.

What are your future plans?

Once I am done with my track in 'Saat Phere', I hope to take a long break. I have been working non-stop for the past seven years. I want to catch up on some swimming and yoga. I want to rejuvenate before I get back to work again.

'Today's generation is not interested in daily soaps'

.. says Sadiya Siddiqui, who although a part of them, is unsatisfied with the business of television.

DEEPALI DHINGRA

In a career spanning over 15 years, Sadiya Siddiqui has done many roles, whether it's television, theatre or films. But viewers often remember her as the rich and spoilt Priya in Banegi Apni Baat. "Yes, I'm still recognised by my character in BAB," Sadiya admits and then adds, "I don't know if people identify with anybody in today's serials or characters."

The actress, who can be seen in Saathi Re and Saath Phere... Saloni Ka Safar, believes that television can be very creative. "It reaches so many people. Unfortunately, even though there are interesting scripts, there's nobody to buy them," she says. But Sadiya adds that the situation is not so because people are not interested in such serials. "On the contrary, the audience wants something different. Today's generation is not interested in daily soaps, that's the reason reality shows are doing so well," she remarks.

After being a part of some landmark serials like Humraahi and BAB, what does Sadiya find different about then and now? "The shows which were there earlier were more true to life. Today, you can't identify with the characters or situations," she says. Citing the example of her role as a vamp in Saathi Re, Sadiya says that she has only black shades. "The villains are always black and the positive characters are always too good to be true. They're no grey shades like they are in reality," she rues.

Fortunately for Sadiya, the actress has her feet firmly rooted in theatre and films as well. Critically acclaimed for her roles in plays like Peele Scooterwala Aadmi and films like Raghu Romeo and Kali Salwar, Sadiya says that these kind of roles keep her ticking. "Otherwise my mind would go dead!" she laughs. When not doing any of these, Sadiya can be found travelling or learning Kathak. "My problem is that I can't keep still. When I have too much work, then I need a break and when I get one, I itch to get back," she smiles. Always on the go, that's Sadiya for you!

Everbody loves Dhir Kanwar Sab now: Ashish Kapoor
Ashish Kapoor, known as Dhir Kanwar Sab of "Saath Phere", is on cloud nine these days, as his role turns sweet and lovable from a sour and hateful one. He is also happy doing a crossover film, which he is excited about. Here he talks about his role and likes and dislikes.

Q: How has been your experience in "Saath Phere" thus far?
A: It's been great and also brilliant, as it has a great producer, director, cast and crew… it is a family to me now. I have so much attachment with the show and people there. I have made great friends and I hope to cherish it life long. Above all, it is my first serial which is been running since the past one year.

Q: Your character has transformed from a hateful to a lovable one….
A: Yes, it has turned positive. The character is now acting like a double-edged sword. It may sound thrilling, but it seems balanced now. It is quite a different character, but I don't know why and how long will it stay positive.

Q: How do you feel as your role is getting prominence now?
A: I was always there. I mean my character was always in the serial. It is just that few other characters come in and also went out. But the character I am portraying is very important and it feels nice when an actor's character gets importance, as it is very essential for an actor to play a prominent role. So I feel great…

Q: Did people look down upon you as you played a negative role for a long time?
A: No, actually nothing of that sort has happened with me. In fact, people have come down to me and appreciated my work. I personally feel that the character was negative, but, at the same time, it was also a bit comic, a bit of naughty.

I enjoyed playing it as it had a different flavour altogether. He used to do stupid things and tried to save himself and always tried to dig things, which would benefit him. So it is a mixed role….

Q: So, which one do you enjoy most, a negative or a positive role?
A: See, it is very difficult to say that, as the most important thing is the character and the script. There is nothing to do with my liking, as I have to do what is written in my script. It is my job, as everyday when I get the script in my hand I have to work accordingly. But Personally, I like both the characters equally…

Q: Tell us something about your crossover film "Zero Hour - A Royal Massacre"?
A: It is basically a docu-drama and a crossover film by U.K. Productions based on the royal massacre of King Gynanender of Nepal. I play the role of the king. It is a very nice movie.

Saloni AKA Rajshri Thakur of 'Saat Phere'

Saloni AKA Rajshri Thakur claims, "Marriage is the best thing to have happened to me."

Dark beauty Rajshri Thakur has stolen many hearts with her performance in 'Saat Phere' but, one man, who has stolen her heart is her beau Sanjot Vaidya.

Rajshri, who was dating Sanjot for sometime now, finally got married to him this past February despite opposition from so called 'advisers'. The polite actress shared, "Many people told me that I should give more time to my career which has just begun, and not get married so soon but, I took the decision and I am happy about it; my husband is my support system."

'Saat Phere' started with Saloni not finding a suitable husband, as she has dark complexion so we asked the actress if she believed in the story line, to which she replied, "If you see any matrimonial advertisement, you will find everyone wants a fair girl but, I have got so many e-mails from dark-skinned girls who say how happy they are to see my triumph in the serial; I feel women must feel confident and should not bother about the color of their skin."

Rajshri further expressed that marriage had got more stability in her life as she feels more secured now.

Isn't the actress more than glad to have taken the 'Saat Phere' in real life?

Zee gaining on Star; Saath Phere displaces Kasautii as No. 3 soap

Indiantelevision.com Team

(26 May 2007 4:40 pm)

MUMBAI: The competition is getting stronger in the Hindi GEC space courtesy Zee TV. Star Plus, which has held sway in the Hindi GEC space for the last six years, is starting to feel the heat.

Zee has been making steady progress this year and the latest Tam data (c&s 4+ 13-19 May 2007) tells a story. document.write("< marginheight=0 marginwidth=0 width=440 height="+linescenterfirstht+" border=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"/templates/itv/line_center_first.htm\">") < marginWidth=0 marginHeight=0 src="https://www.india-forums.com/templates/itv/line_center_first.htm" Border=0 width=440 scrolling=no height=0>

In terms of GRPs Star Plus has a GRP of 322. It is only 90 points away from Zee TV which has 232 points.

In fact, Star Plus the previous week had 343 GRPs. This means a loss of 21 GRPs in the past week. However, it should also be pointed out that its sibling Star One picked up some of the slack with its GRPs increasing from 70-83.

Zee's GRPs, meanwhile, increased by two points from 230 to 232. As for the other channels, Sony's GRPs have stayed flat over the last two weeks of ratings at 116. Sahara One has 84 GRPs. Sab's GRPs have however, increased from 45 to 52.

What would also be a big concern for Star is the fact that Zee's flagship soap Saath Phere has displaced Star's Kasautii as the number three prime time daily weepie in the Hindi GEC space. Three of its episodes were ahead with ratings of 3.7, 3.3 and 3.2. Kasautii has a rating of 3.1 and is at number 18 overall.

It is also worth noting that Zee TV's format show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has penetrated the top 10, which not long ago was considered Star's exclusive domain. That show has delivered a rating of 4.

By contrast Sony's music based reality show Indian Idol 3 is at number 29 with a rating of 2.7. As for the rival music talent hunt on Star Plus - Star Voice of India - it has delivered a TVR of 2.1 and is at number 69 in the Top 100 list.

It is well and truly game on as far as Zee TV's challenge to leader Star Plus is concerned.

Manno Bhabhi is back in action
Neena Kapoor aka Manno Bhabhi has made her re-entry into 'Saat Phere'. For all those who had been watching the show closely will know that whenever her character enters the show, there are some major changes.

Having been associated with some good shows like 'Saans'and 'Dard', Neena has once again proved her acting mettle in 'Saat Phere'. Set against the back drop of a Rajasthani family, the show revolves around the difficulties of a dark complexioned girl by the name of Saloni played by Rajshree Thakur.

Neena Gupta has done complete justice to her character of this strong elder bahu of Saloni's family. Till now Manno bhabhi had been loaded with jewellery and elegant sarees, but this time round Neena is seen in plain sarees and is complety dedicated to God.

When we thought of finding it out from the lady herself as to why has she shed her glamourous look, Neena responded, "I'm not supposed to talk about it and moreover, I do not think I can say anything."

So, does this mean that something is brewing this time too? Another feast for the couch potatoes!

Saat Phere cost Saloni her radio job

Rajshri Thakur may have gained a lot of fame as Saloni from Saat Phere – a Zee show – but was kicked out from her job at FM Gold, a Government radio station, as she did not inform them that she was working in a television serial.

"Rajshri was a permanent employee with FM Gold but she didn't tell anyone that she is also working in a television show," our sources said.

As per the norm, if one is working elsewhere also, they have to inform their respective bosses. But Rajshri wanting to save her job may have decided not to reveal anything to the authorities.

"She took a six-month long holiday for some reason during which her show gained popularity, with banners becoming visible throughout Mumbai. So a letter saying, "No more services are needed from you" was handed over to her," sources from the radio station said.

If Rajshri had said the truth, she may have kept her job with Gold FM but guess she wouldn't be complaining now that her character of Saloni has become so famous

The new Domestic Violence Act, 2005 can now be implemented in the case of emotional abuse in a live-in relationship as well. Contrary to the popular belief that living-in is a form of freedom from social and legal norms that bind couples; the law clearly states that if the woman cries foul the man will be punished!

Recently, a Delhi court ordered a man to pay a sum of a lakh and a half to his live-in partner as he failed to fulfil his promise of marriage after living together for three years. The judgement is clearly in support of women in a system which often ends up making men a soft target.

However, the very concept of a live-in relationships is flouted by this law. It is a gender neutral no-strings attached arrangement: meaning the couple is living together without having any legal or social right to each other's property and a free will to dissolve the arrangement without prior notice and at the behest of slightest discomfort or change of priority. When the law intervenes, it will empower women to direct the relationship without mutual consent, in-turn abusing the freedom of the institution. The bright side to the law is that it will reduce violence in the relationship, be it in the form of harassment or blackmail.

We zeroed in on few telly actors to voice their opinion on the issue.

Neena Gupta : Laws have never made a difference and creating new ones will have no impact either. How will the domestic violence law help once the man is forced in a marriage or is found harassing his wife? Will she run to the police station and courts all over again? Live-in couples should be left alone as they essentially come from open minded families. They are definitely not poor or helpless. The chances are high as it will benefit women who are in for financial favours. If you look at it clearly, the man is a victim now! The women who need the law are too battered by the families to approach the police. Law don't make any improvements in a man woman relationship; a man who is forced to marry his partner by the law will find another way to avenge it.

Parmeet Sethi :
This is bulls***. All live-in relationships are among consenting adults who don't feel a need for a social approval, otherwise they would have gotten married! The scene has changed today. It's all cute and progressive to a point it benefits women. But I think, it become convenient to drag a man to court, now the man is not getting vindicated. Nobody forced the woman to get into a live-in relationship, then why should she force a man into marriage?

Jasveer Kaur :
I have lived in for two years, I think it is a very good way to understand your partner and know whether he or she is right for you. We got into a live-in relationship mutually and decided to split mutually as well. I don't think courts should interfere between consenting adults. When I read about the case, I wondered how could the law force a man into marriage, isn't that unfair? People live in to decide whether they can continue the relationship further or absolve it - everybody concerned has the right to get out at any moment. I don't understand why the law needs step in?

Ajay Gehi : There has to be a defining law regarding live-in relationships. The legal eagles need to understand the equation before interfering into the domain. Point being, these are vague and formless relationships, there are no clear set parameters to the arrangement. People when sharing an apartment get into a relationship and as the careers mould move on…that is the trend. To regulate them, one needs to have a government body to register the people living in and then get into defining what the promises were made and whether they were fulfilled or not. Unlike marriage, living in changes from couple to couple, it's difficult to say who is right and women are not always the ones who are right!

Overall it's a big no to law interfering in private matters. Write to us if you support or reject the view at editor@tellychakkar.com
