Some of things about ARR has confused me like in Saawariya song he has used double pace rhythm in a relatively slow song, this makes me a bit uncomfortable. Or Munbe Waa for which Shreya got a big prize.

At times choice of singers is unconventional like I don?t know how far use of Lata ji?s voice for Prity Zinta (jiya jale jaan jale) was OK or Asha ji for Urmila (Rangeela).

...Ashaji ( i tht) kinda suited Urmila...coz Ashaji's voice(at that time) was much better than it is today...so overall, the song kind of came out well.....Tanha tanha came out sounding sharp at the higher notes, but ok nevertheless......I too found the use of Lataji's voice for preity zinta to be the most ridiculous.....😆

ARR certainly deserves all this hype and popularity.......first of all, he is the one who changed the trend of Indian music and brought Indian music to international level! Secondly, as far as I know he was the first one who broke singers domination by introducing many new singers and made them popular through his fantastic music....Thirdly, many music directors in the industry today, whether in tamil, telugu, hindi are all inspired by ARR, it is not too harsh to say that some even copied him too......

I don't deny that there are also some (few actually) ARR songs which were not up to the mark (maybe because of over-expectation) but all music directors face this similar situation, even IR too.
This is the first time I'm posting here, in this section.....couldn't go away without giving credit to one of the best music directors in the world!

Your 2 cents are welcome niruba ji, this is what a forums is all about, probably it teaches us to agree to disagree...😃. And I agree to all the three ponits you mentioned.
I know I am in minority but I truly believe that more than being an extraordainary composer of dhun or tune he is extraordainary in understanding the idiom of sound. And that is from where he delivers tunes which sound BIG and un parallel.

One would be a fool if he thinks ARR doesn't have talent, he is the international face of Bollywood music, quite talented. Still I feel tunes of IR or RDB saab is one notch above his as far as melody and soul is concerned of course I reinforce that I am in minority and people will disagree.

And what makes u think ppl with disagree to the last bolded point 😃
I agree and i think many posts above actually reinforced just that abt IR atleast! Melody and soul, IR is just too good there! 😊

I don't know even the T of Tamil, but I like Shreya's performance very much. Her subtle glides (meend) give the song a beautiful lilting quality that really brings out the melody, and make something "Indian" sounding out of the Western chord progressions in the accompaniment. I'd like to see a male singer -- like Zaheer! -- try this song (if the lyrics allow this, of course).

I am sorry that I am sort of entering your space and commenting on something which is none of my business but please treat it as a request. Rest I leave to you. No hard feelings either ways.

I can see why some would feel uncomfortable, but I think the image needs to be seen in the right perspective: using elements of thoroughly modern imagery to render a thoroughly traditional focus of bhakti. Look at not just the shades, but also the stage lights in the background -- the overall picture. The intended impression is of Lord Shiva as a really cool dude, an iconic hero -- a superstar. What's wrong with that?

There is nothing wrong at all, as I said its a personal choice and I was just making a request. You are not breaking any rule or anything and have all rights to have this perspective. Its just the way we see it, I dont want to see Him as a cool Dude or a Superstar, I just see him as Lord Shiva.
Anyways, as I said you have all the rights and I hold no ill feeling towards you just because you dont see it in the way I look at it as. Chalo, bye.
