I dont think AR Rehman is over-hyped... I think where he has reached now, why people can automatically assume that his music will be good without listening to it, is because he has deserved it..!!

For me, I would much rather listen to AR composed songs, rather than Jatin-Lalit and Anu Malik, because I think AR Rehman is different, he's got a freshness with his music, yet he composes it for the movie and he's still got his own style... nothing against those composers, of course!

See, Im sure there are many fantastic composers all around, but many go unnoticed, unfortunately... those who are usually in smaller areas, may not always be noticed so much because they are not so well-known..

I just feel that where AR Rehman has gotten today, with his popularity and being famous, is because he has deserved it, not because he is over-hyped... because it's not like every single song of his is always fantastic, he has also made blunders with some music but has always managed to come back with the same freshness.. other composers do this as well, I dont think they should be differentiated from him or from anyone, they are all music composers 🥰

Ufff, did my post make any sense?? If it's slightly vague, sorry 😜

no music directors can give 100% hits..

my hubby says-
IR made people from all of tamilnadu listen to tamil music
ARR made people from whole of India to listen to tamil music
just as the saying 'beauty is in the eyes of the beholder', ARR is a legend for those who adore him
listen to the songs of 'the legend of Bagat Singh' - i get goosebumps every time i listen to those songs - esply 'mera rang de basanthi' , 'pagdi sambhal jatta' & 'sarfaroshi ki tamanna'
i feel he deserves the popularity/the adoration that he gets

"Mera rang de basanti chola" from Legend of Bhagat Singh is an excellent example of ARR's craft and creative virtuosity.

The song (or at least, the basic lyrics) is originally from the 1965 movie Shaheed (sung by Mukesh and two others). Here is a Youtube clip. (Yes, LofBS copied the death march picturization of this song from Shaheed -- obviously, given the lyrics)

ARR's version (sung by Sonu Nigam) is recognizably the same song, but at the same time, refreshingly new and different. He has done magic with it, just as he has done with, say, Vande Mataram.

He may be over-hyped, but there is no question that he is a very creative and original musician/composer.

Good grief, did they butcher the squib on Vande Mataram, and then some!

"Patriotic Hindi song"? Since when? The 30-second clip offered for listening is Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's poem (of mixed Sanskrit and Bengali) in raga Desh, well-known from AIl India Radio. The version in the Ananda Math movie, sung by Hemant Kumar and Lata, is a completely different tune (seems to have traces of Malkauns and Bhairavi?) but still Bankim's lyrics. The Hindi song ("ma tujhe salaam") is AR Rahman's remake.

Hey ar thanks for coming..😃

Some of things about ARR has confused me like in Saawariya song he has used double pace rhythm in a relatively slow song, this makes me a bit uncomfortable. Or Munbe Waa for which Shreya got a big prize.

At times choice of singers is unconventional like I don't know how far use of Lata ji's voice for Prity Zinta (jiya jale jaan jale) was OK or Asha ji for Urmila (Rangeela).
