Unsuitable song choices by contestants

I wonder why the contestants made such dreadful choices for songs based on violin, guitar and drums in a recent episode. There are hundreds of gems scattered in the compositions of Shanker Jaikishan, Salil Choudhury, RD Burman and others from which the contestants could have picked the best. Why on earth did Raja sing saiyan? Why did Aneek sing bhool bhullaiyya? Why did Amanat choose a complex song like "tum jo mil gayi ho" to which he could not do justice, when he could have picked a simpler song?

Off-hand, I can think of so many songs they could have picked and sung fairly well:

Phoolon ka taaron ka (Kishore) - Guitar

Ek pyaar ka naghma hain (Mukesh Lata) - Violin

Bhanware ki gunjan (Kishore) - Guitar plus violins

Dilbar mere (Kishore) - Violins, Drums

Dost dost na raha (Mukesh) - Violins

With a little more thought to song choices, the contestants could have made the episode so memorable!

I agree with u completely sahana...they messed up the whole episode.There are soooo many better songs that they could hv choosen...ones that were popular too.

I hv talked to many of these contestants and one feedback i got from all was the mentors are choosing songs for them keeping popularity in mind.But why these new songs only. why do they hv this misconception that the old gems wont be enjoyed by the masses?Didnt the black & white episode get high trp?how about the taj episode? all showed high trp so why only these songs and not the old gems.

There are so many songs from that era that would hv suited this particular episode....and it would hv been a fitting ending with friday old gems while saturday new songs with that football team.

Even the old song that was chosen - tum jo mil gayi ho by Amanat was also not well-chosen. It was too complex.

Among the new songs, I would have liked "agar main kahoon mujhe tumse muhabbat hain" from Lakshya. The guitar piece in that song is absolutely fabulous.

On top of it they picked all Rafi numbers for the violin round. Rafi's expressions are v difficult to replicate, and technical shortcomings are further exposed.

Guys, even todays episode I thought the song choices could have been much better. The last song by Aneek could have been a better choice. Don't you think?

i agree.. though i did think dard-e-dil was a good choice and rendered well by aneek.. that's the only song that stuck in my mind. the guitar round was a total waste. today too, i was bored most of the time.. maybe cos i've never really liked sanjay gupta/ARA kind of songs.. sorry..

what a let down after last week's high.. wish they'd done instruments round/dus kahaniyan combo last week and the ghazal-classical/OSO combo this week... that way's they would've got srk to come too 😊😊 and it would've been a fitting finals..
