We all have been discussing who is the best singer and have had different opinions.. Few of them judged based upon looks, voice quality, the feelings in the song etc..

But here, we will talk only about the technical aspect of the contestants and give some suggestions for the contestants where and what to improve..

Request you to please stick only to technical aspects like sur and taal, the breathe control, scale, diction etc..

It is Amanat without a doubt. He is technically the stongest singer.

Anu, please let us know your choice too.

I've given a technical analysis before in another topic, so I will just copy-paste what I wrote there for the remaining contestants.

SUMEDHA.

Positive:
Has a wonderful resonance in her voice. If you press down the damper pedal and play the piano, you will understand that Sumedha's voice has the same sort of effect. The beauty of it is that she does not need studio-editing equipment to produce such a resonance, which is why mentors keep harping about how great she would sound in recording.

Negative:
She tends to go nasal at times, so she needs to be careful about that. Her notes also need careful monitoring so that she doesn't go off-sur.

RAJA.

Positive:
When it comes to high range singing, no one can beat this guy. He also has strong control over his vocals and adds little ornaments here and there with ease.

Negative:
He's straining himself too much with these high-range songs, which is why he sounds tired at times. He also needs practice to perform softer songs with ease. I think that if he's given a year or so to practice bringing softness to his voice, he will be able to do those songs as well.

ANEEK.

Positive: Nice, clean voice. He sings difficult songs with an unusual ease.

Negative: He needs to work on his English diction. His rapping was not up to the mark.

AMANAT.

Positive: Another great technical singer. He has the voice of a Ghazal singer - delicate with a hint of sadness.

Negative: While technically he is very sound, when it comes to songs other than ghazals/semi-classical, he is unable to do justice. He often lacks the feel or energy required for those songs and frankly speaking, they are not as memorable as "Yeh Honsla" from Dor.

POONAM:

Positive: Very very strong vocals. Also she has a different and refreshing voice.

Negative: She has to really learn how to do "legato singing" or smooth singing. Her notes tend to become detatched, which is great when you have songs like Vande Mataram from Anandmath, but very bad when you have a romantic song which requires more flow and sweetness.

I noticed the same problem again when she sang "Jhooth bole kauwa kaate" - her singing was very detached.

My take on this -

Aneek - He needs to concentrate more on breathe control.. I am amazed by his diction and his sur and taal is usually perfect.. In his kal ho na ho, I wanted to see him keep his scale a .5 higher which would hv served the purpose..

Amanat - though everything is good about him, there is one major problem of Diction.. He definitely needs to work upon that.. Sometimes his words are very unclear..

Poonam and Sumedha have somehow always impressed me.. I adore Poonam's Vande Mataram and consider it to be the best performance in SRGMP C2007.. But still I have heard them both loose their Sur and Taal at times.. Have also noticed Sumedha changing her scale in one of the song which I dont remember.. And also have sensed a nasal twang in both of their voices.. So, they need to work on that

Coming to Raja, He needs practice more and would definitely want him to reduce his scale.. His voice screeches at times when he takes the high pitch and as I had already pointed out in one of the discussion that he ends the lines abruptly.. He is a very soulful singer - no doubt about that.. But I still want him to work on these aspects..

I still have a dilemma in choosing between Amanat and Aneek.. If they both work on those that I have mentioned, probably I will go in for both..

I dont have much musical knowledge except that I listen very intently to all the songs and sometimes notice the obvious mistakes.

Can someone tell me what "Talafuz" mean? Is it clarity? Because I remember ID said it to Sum that hers is the best, I assumed it was the clarity of her words??

Yes - Talafuz is pronunciation of words and also clarity.. While singing a song, it is important that the listeners understand the words only then you can understand the meaning of the song.. It is very important that the singers pronounce the words properly and also is clearly understandable..

I'm having trouble pinning down my choice here as well. If I completely ignore voice quality, Aneek and Amanat are the strongest in terms of technique.
