When the public is consistently mediocre, and confuses quantity for quality, it is easy to become a legend, and that's how it is today.

Abhi - this is true with most of the MDs. Do you know LP composed music for nearly 500 films? And how many of those are remembered -- I would say 70 or 80 -- that is even less than 20%. RDB composed music for nearly 300 movies, how many of them can you remember? Salil Chaudhary/Madan Mohan/Naushad all composed music for less than100 films. I am an very ardent fan of them and have very closely followed their music over the years but I would struggle to name more than 25-30 movies of theirs. But they all are legends and are remembered for the 15-20% of the movies they composed music for --because of the quality of the music and the impact it had over us for so many years.

then i would say becoming a legend is very easy😃

truly speaking i never heard any of the khayyam shahab's songs till date except may be umrao jaan.... but i heard many rajesh roshan songs from time to time not at my home but many places even now.... so does it make him better legend than khayyam sahab????

i sincerely think that consistency is imp for becoming a legend...

Khayyam sahab is still alive is nt he... then why cant he give music now.... I truly admire Amitabh as legend because he proven himself in all ages in all the genres of acting....

I truly admire Ashaji because she has proven herself in all ages in all genres.... and she is knowledgable and believes in giving knowledfge as u seen in SRGMP.......

my question is why should i respect Khayyam as legend, who does nt even share any qualitative suggestions with new comers.... and he proven himself only in one particular era.... that to with limited singers like lataji and rafi and talat....😊

My point was not about Khayyam saheb or whether you should regard him as legend or not.. Since you said that only 20% of his work is remembered, I wanted to say that it is true with all music personalities. Asha-ji might have sung more than 20000 songs but she will be remembered for 2000-3000 odd songs that have become immensely popular. If only 10-15% her work is remembered, should we say that she does not qualify to be called as legend? So it is not the % but quality that whatever little number that matters. That was my point.

It is easy to compose for 300-500 movies in order to get acclaim for some 60 songs?

You answer your own question about how knowledgeable you are about music.

i sincerely think that consistency is imp for becoming a legend...

So what if Amitabh is acting in films in his old age - he is going to be remembered only for the classics like Sholay and Deewaar, not for Boom and Jhoom barabar jhoom. Khayyam will remain a legend for the classics he has composed (even if he is leading a retired life now). It's not like someone becomes a legend for composing until he dies. People who believe in quantity won't understand quality.

I truly admire Ashaji because she has proven herself in all ages in all genres.... and she is knowledgable and believes in giving knowledfge as u seen in SRGMP.......

Once again, the yardstick for a legend is not that they work until they are 90. Ability to judge a talent show is not what made Khayyam saab a legend.

When people don't bother to find out more about Khayyam saab other than the fact that he composed for Umrao Jaan, it is difficult to even debate with such ignorance. Looks like you have not heard Khayyam's songs sung by Asha, Kishore, Mukesh, Jagjit Kaur, Talat Aziz and others. Have you forgotten your attempt to sing Khayyam's "woh subah kabhi to aayegi" in IF-SRGMP? That was sung by Mukesh and Asha.

A composer can become a legend whether he works with two singers or thousand, whether he composes until the age of 40 or until 90.

Kya sahi baat kahi aap ne. It's so easy to be called a legend nowadays. Back in the days, did anyone call RDB, LP, Khayyam, etc legends? It's just in recent years, that people have become confused and started calling them legends, isn't it? Tsk tsk! Mediocre public, I tell you.🤔

300, 500 movies! 😳

And people say today's MDs focus on too much quantity over quality? 🤔
