Punjini ji. I would request you to keep the personal comments on people's individual music preferences, knowledge, and discerning ability out of it please. I have seen in recent times that your mode of attack is to simply brand the opposing debator, who doesn't agree with your views, as someone who has little knowledge of music. Particularly in this thread, you have called todays' music lovers mediocre, and commented on Abhi's knowledge of music more than once, even going to the extent of branding him ignorant.

I would appreciate if you stick to the argument and respect everyone's views. If you feel others are not as highly knowledgeable as you are, then don't debate with us. But kindly do away with the personal comments - direct or implied. Mods, I would appreciate if you can let Punjini ji know the rules.

I agree with shady on this ..I have seen this again and again when ever there is a debate sahana makes these types of personal remarks in which shows she is "superior and more knowledgable" offcourse if a person indeed is ..he/she needs be humble and not trying to humilate/attack the other person. we have in this forum very knowledgable members..and some of them in this thread itself and have managed to get there point across without attacking the other person.I personally like the oldies and donot like todays songs very much but thats my taste and I donot try to degrade the other's person taste. It is not a bad idea to embrace "good" from both old and new .and thats what we call thinking outside the box. But here we are not to change anyone. To prove ourself right it is not nesceesry you demean and degrade the other person !!

No two opinions on that one, punjiniji. Where are the brilliant compositions and melodies these days - music is all about orchestrated beats and cover versions - music these days is mediocre. These days music is all about the caps you wear, the smile you don't actually do, the crooning of the wolves, the howling of the dogs and the foot tapping beats that you deliberatelty force into a number to make it appealing ...

For all the people who go by numbers and quantity (since people don't even remember these kind of music after few years), I can only think of the quote

"An Ant lays more eggs than a Hen ....."

😉 😉 😉

I second and third that you guys. 😆😆😆

Some melodies are created even as of today, no denying that, but the percentage is lower compared to the earlier era.

as far as calling every one over 50 a legend, I agree with Maya. I don't support that. As far as the newcomers are concerned, well, I believe there we must have some legends in the making! Time will tell. Regarding some of the mentors like ID and HR as legends already, I am glad to be not a part of that crowd. Whether worthy to some or not, SD, Madan Mohan, RDB attracted listeners spanning their era all the way into today. With the recent breed, half of the current listeners also refuse to have an ear for them 😉.

If I feel pity for those who appreciate mediocrity, it cannot be called an attack. It's plain pity. On the other hand, I would say that mediocrity and ignorance are an attack on excellence. Debate is possible only when both sides are well informed. But if people ignorantly and confidently argue that people like Khayyam cannot be a legend because they made seven films and that he worked with limited singers and imply that only Umrao Jaan of Khayyam is worth listening to while the rest is forgettable, I am afraid I have to dispel such ignorance.Ignorance is a kind of darkness

I have not crossed any limits of decency.

I would like to remind you of the time when you questioned my professional ability in one thread. So please live carefully in your glass house.

What gives you the right to decide what is mediocre and what is not, or who is ignorant and who is knowledgable. And what gives you the right to brand anyone as such.

In any case, if you feel the other side is not well informed, please don't debate with them. That way, you're just banging your head against the wall, isn't it? You don't need to let the whole world know what you think of the other person. Simply ignore us. Let us stay in our ignorant bubble. Spare us.

Also, I have never questioned your professional ability. If you're talking about the time when you used the incorrect word - 'your' instead of 'our' - then I simply commented on that error on that thread. I didn't say you're a mediocre or ignorant editor (even if I felt that way, I wouldn't say it).

Who gave you the right to decide that I should not express what I think is mediocre? Kindly don't usurp the tasks of the moderators.

I don't need your instructions about whom to debate with. I don't bang my head on walls. I break them. I break ignorant bubbles. Bubbles don't last anyway.

People who make ill-informed assumptions like the following are advised to check their facts first:
1)Khayyam composed for just 7 films
2)Khayyam worked with limited singers.
3)Slow songs are all loris

You Shady could have commented on that error of one word in a thread without questioning my professional ability as an editor. I let it go. Right now you are doing it again by saying "I didn't say you're a mediocre or ignorant editor (even if I felt that way, I wouldn't say it)".

As a member of this forum, I have every right to ask you to follow the rules of this forum, including Rule no. 14.

Do NOT attack the mentors, show directors, participants or fellow members. You can comment on their comments or expressions, but DO NOT get personal.

I am not usurping the tasks of the mentors, simply making them easier, and also standing up for friends. In any case, I've made my point, and I'm going to let the moderators handle this now.

As far as my comment about your profession goes, I simply said - "Being an editor, I expected you to be more careful in your choice of words". Where have I questioned your professional ability here? I only questioned your choice of words in that particular thread (and you yourself said that you should have used a better word).

You have no reason to comment about my profession at all. I call that a personal remark. Got it? So get your house in order first.

I have not attacked
mentors, show directors, participants or fellow members. If members make ill-informed remarks about legends, they are going to be corrected by me, whether they are your friends or not.

Incidentally, if all people start getting their friends to defend them, this thread will run to 100 pages
😆

People who make ill-informed assumptions like the following are advised to check their facts first:
1)Khayyam composed for just 7 films

I am not interested in any MD or singer's history... this is what was told on SRGMP sets and and and Khayyam did not say that its wrong... so with circumstantial evidence for general public, it is truth....
2)Khayyam worked with limited singers.

Indeed he did work with limited legendary singers as u had mentioned😊
3)Slow songs are all loris

Did I say all slow songs?????? now who is ill informed about what I said.... I said this about the song "Woh Subah kabhi to aayegi" because of the way it is sung.... my personal favourite is "Do dil mil rahe hain" and "Kaisi hain yeh rut ki jisme" both are slow....

I am saying again... u DONT have any RIGHT to talk about my musical knowledge.... Yes I have different musical tastes, and I am proud of myself being having my own musical tastes than just showing off that I am musically knowledgable....

cheers

Abhi
