Welcome to the garma garam kursi Punjini - since I am reading so much about wastewater and I know your love for music, please answer these questions, and if possible, tell me what songs come to mind when you read the following high funda stuff:
1. It takes Sulfides to treat and precipitate Heavy Metals but then that leaves hazardous sulfides in the water - abh inn Sulfides ka karo bhaiyaaa ......
Jo dawa ke naam se zeher de
use chaaragar ki talaash hain
Industries must adopt environmentally sound practices addressing the full life-cycle of a product. Innovative methods of recycling, regeneration and reclamation are the need of the hour. They should develop microbial methods of disposal of these sulphides. I am sure there would be some sulphide-eating bacteria interested in the sulphides!
2. A lot of wastewater treatment is done by bugs which love ethanol - abh Hum Ethanol piyeen tho Sharabi keh lathay hain aur yeh Bugs can get high on Ethanol tho inko kya bulayein .....😕
Jungle mein more naacha kisi ne na dekha
Hum jo thodisi peeke zara jhoomein,
Haai re sab ne dekha!
3. Why is ultraviolet light bad for us but good for Wastewater treatment?
UV light kills living cells and can therefore be used to kill pathogenic organisms in wastewater. In this human-centric world, obviously anything harmful to humans has to be put out of the way.
4. I have heard of Osmosis but eh reverse osmosis suna hai is good for treating Wasterwater - eh ka theeek suna hai ka humney?
Bilkul theek suna hai. Aajkal duniya mein sab kaam ulta ho raha hai is liye osmosis ko bhi reverse kar diya hain.
Reverse osmosis is a membrane separation process for removing solvent from a solution. When a semi permeable membrane separates a dilute solution from a concentrated solution, solvent crosses from the dilute to the concentrated side of the membrane in an attempt to equalize concentrations. The flow of solvent can be prevented by applying an opposing hydrostatic pressure to the concentrated solution.
The magnitude of the pressure required to completely impede the flow of solvent is defined as the "osmotic pressure". If the applied hydrostatic pressure exceeds the osmotic pressure, flow of solvent will be reversed, that is, solvent will flow from the concentrated to the dilute solution. This phenomenon is referred to as Reverse Osmosis.
This process is useful in extracting water from wastewater or saline water while the impurities are trapped on the surface of the membranes.
5. Stripping is a form of treatment in wastewater (takes pollutants from water to air) whilst scrubbing with water is a form of treatment for air pollution - is there some game playing going on here by the polluting entity - I mean pehle strip kiya phir scrub kiya phie strip kiya and so on and on ....
Haha this is a funny observation. I observed something like this in music. When a vocalist sings very well, her/his voice is compared to an instrument like flute. Lata's voice is supposed to have the pefection of a musical instrument. However, when renowned masters play on instruments, their music is compared to the human voice. So when reviewers praise Ustad Vilayat Khan's sitar, they say it sounds as beautiful as the human voice!
6. If two thirds of the earth is water - why is there "water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink"
Because most of the earth's water is in oceans. Only 2.5% of the earth's water is fresh water but more than 2/3 of this is frozen in ice caps leaving very little in rivers, lakes and aquifers.
7. Why is it called Heavy Water ala D3O ..... what makes it "Heavy"//😕
The extra neutron in the nucleus of the hydrogen isotope makes it heavy. Normally hydrogen atom has only one proton in the nucleus and no neutron. Heavy water contains two isotopes of hydrogen bonded with one normal oxygen atom. The properties of heavy water are different from normal water.
More to come ....... enjoy .......... 😉
Sahana , there is a sulphate reducing Bacteria(SRB) as they are known as and they are the nightmares of process /mechanical engineers and also of the industrial plant operators. They corrode pipelines, clump up resins , clog pressure filters or cartridge filters, and can kill a whole process in no time. They pollute water bodies/groundwater and is a threat for surface units. They are black and slimy in nature and eat on piplelines faster than anything else.

Sahana,
great answers. Here is a question I have for you.
Do you generally go with your heart or your mind when it comes to making important decisions?
As a followup to that, when do you think the heart should trump the mind and vice versa when it comes to making important decisions?

If I remember right, these SRBs reduce sulphates to sulphides. I was wondering whether there are other sulphide-eating bacteria that could keep these SRBs in check. Better still, could the process be stopped at sulphur itself since sulphur is insoluble and can be removed? I think some research is going on in this area. A lot of role for microbiologists.
Hi Sahanaji,
Your answers were lovely. Its a pleasure knowing you.
I would be waiting for some good write-up/articles on music, I have been following all your Articles on music very closely in IF, Wish you all the good luck, loads of love and happiness in your life.

Some more questions sahana ji:
What's your education and from where you did it?
In your opinion where is the education best, in India or US or...Please explain.
If you have a choice will you go back to India or not?
If you could go back and change one thing in your past life that would it be?
Where you see yourself after 10-15 yrs from now?
If you know that your one desire will be fulfilled what will you ask for?
