Challenge 2005: Looking Back

The final round of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 was telecast in Januray 2006. A full year has passed since then and it would be interesting to look back now. Of the final five -- Debojit, Vinit, Hemu, Himani and Nihira, how many really got breaks as a playback singers of SOLO songs. I know all of them sung several group songs but any solos for leading actors/actresses? Can anyone list the solo songs they sung since January 2006, if they sung at all? For which films? for which music directors? Are these songs available online? If yes, please point to the links.

What about others? where is Paresh now? what has he done since C2005? I know he was a great hit in UK during Navratri. What about Swananda?

These singers are doing great with stage shows across the globe and also as one-amongst-the-many singers of the film group songs but are they going anywhere as independent solo film playback singers standing on their own?

This is the proof of Nihira's solo song for Salam-E-Ishq. She sang one duet with Shaan and one solo which is posted here. Nihira also sang a duet with Hemachandra in a movie called Alag. Himani sang a Thumri for a movie called Chingari for Adhesh Shrivastava. Vinit also sang few solos for Himesh Reshmmiyaa. All the above mentioned have some group and duet songs in various movies. Only Nihira got a successful solo from a popular brand MDs. Nihira also has recorded for few Marathi movies according to Vineethn.

None of the songs you mentioned are SOLOs recorded AFTER C2005. Himani's Chingari and Vinit's Rocky solo songs were recorded during C2005. Nihira's Salan-E-Ishq song "babuji dhire chalana" cannot be called original solo -- it is just the "rearraged" (not remixed) version of the old song. Her other song "mera dil" in the same movie is a duet with Shaan. Song from Alag -- "sabse alag" is not a duet with Hemu but a group song with Hemu, Kunal Ganjawala, Gayatri Iyer and Shaan.

So I conclude that no one has yet sung a solo Hindi song AFTER C2005?

I am really looking forward to see Nihira coming up in a big way -- the way Shreya Ghosal did with all those Devdaas songs....

When I attended Hemu's concert here in bay area, he mentioned that he sang one song for Abhishek Bacchan. Any one knows which is that song and in which movie? Not sure if that was a solo.

Hemu has sung in Alag for Karan Johar..and he sung in dil diya hai along with Vinit and Himani. And he sang in Subhash Ghai ji's bad boys good boys..i guess it was a solo song but i am not sure though.
