Sanchari was okay not that great in my opinion, yes she was way better than Banjyotsna and Raktima to name a few, but she has issues with higher notes which she always bypasses. She sang bahomein chale aao, a romantic song with no emotion at all, it sounded like a melodious Bhavgeet/ghazal. But it was wrong of J-L to say that she was too young, if they felt she was a good singer they could have taken her into the show, how does age matter.

I was not too fond of Sanchali either, her voice sounded too harsh, loved Ujjaini though too bad she lost.

LIsten guys, before you compare them to a Sonu Nigam ask yourself was Sonu as good as he is today when he first recorded for T-series? Did you buy Sonu's initial album rightaway? Probably no. Sonu grew over time and improved with each opportunity.
Singers like Abhijit, Debojit, Ujjaini, Sanchali have great potential. It does not matter how Janta vote becuase 90% of TV show voters vote based on body language and looks, they do not understand the nuances of sur and tonal quality. I would not be surprised if Gajendra Singh brings back true quality singers through another show, which will concentrate on music quality only. To judge a singer in totality , they should be asked to sing songs of different genres and rhythms. Hopefully better criteria will be applied in future contests of music.

Folks, I was so happy to hear that the theme for todays' round was Dada (SD ) Burman's songs. Usually its RD/Kishore/Asha or the new generation folks. Why can't we have Naushad/Madan Mohan/Salil Chaudhary songs? Why can't we have singers like Manna Dey and Mukesh get some respect from SRGMP. I would love to hear a Manna Day's songs -- "Laga Chunari Mei Daag" or "Puchho Na Kaise Maine Rain Bitaai" from classically trained singers like Sharib. I would love to hear Madan Mohans "Baiyya Na Dharo O Balama" or "Naino Mei Badara Chhaye, Bijali si Chamke Haye" or "Lag Ja Gale Ke Phir Yeh Hansi Raat Ho no Ho" from Swananda or Nihira. These quality songs will show the real calibre of these singers. It is unfortunate that these singers never get to show their real potential with the kinds of songs that are chosen for them or given to them.

I agree that Sharib is a classically trained singer. But he shows off a little bit. Remember, in one of the rounds, when Jatin or Lalit asked him to sing the song in a particular pitch he replied, that 'awaz bahut uupar jaati hai..' aaha! JL don't know that? they are not music director for nothing. Also in the same round there was a clipping shown where he was asking (unnecessarily) a renowned musician (sorry forgot his name!) which pitch he should use! Boss, you have to choose your own pitch. I like the way the musician replied - 'if 1 suits your voice, then choose' end of the story. Why is Sharib trying to make a show that he is a classically trained singer and that he knows a thing or two about pitch etc. etc. IMPO, all this build up is not necessary. Go to the stage sing in sur and taal and compete with talented guys like Debu and Hemachandra. Natak mat karo!

aye aye vedang......
these are just great songs...i was also wondering why they dont sing these kind of songs and if ever they sing some songs of asha ji or kishore da...why do they always sing fast numbers? why not slow numbers?

i have seen in the last episode...JL tried to teach abhijit and sanchali some fast numbers which they couldnt carry off..so finally they selected paan khaye sayya for sanchali and mere bheegi bheegi si for abhijit....

i dont know if the contestants choose the songs or the mentors.....

i don't think sharib shows off- i think when he made that comment to JL- he was having problem with his throat and he made that comment saying it is very difficult for him to reach those higher notes.

Simliarly when he asked somebody else, he had some problem with the throat and wanted to know which scale will be suited for him for his voice problem (his voice is in the voice change stage)

As already mentioned in the post, what I mentioned is IMPO.

In music world, particularly, in classical music world which I have been close to for decades now, to the extent known to me, after you reach a stage, one doesnot ask another musician which pitch/scale is suitable for oneself. One has to sing in different pitches and findout for themselves which note/scale/pitch is suited for them. Which scale they are comfortable singing in. Others cannot judge for you in which pitch you will have problem in going into higher notes. or vice versa.

When 30 odd competitors were there who were just engrossed in learning music from that great musician, only this guy asking a question on pitch/scale/note. What is it? Isn't this a drama 'in camera'?

I disagree with you completely on this. I don't think this was drama. Give a break to the guy.....sharib is only 17 years old and his voice is going through a transition period (boyhood and manhood!) and that is the reason why he was facing this problem....i remember he said something in particular as well.....the term used for this kind of problem and he wanted to know that during this particular period in which scale he should do the riyaz so that his voice is least affected............i don't think there was any drama in that......the guy seems pretty sincere.
