I agree with you.selection procedure is not fair.I sometimes feel the judges fall for the good looks of female contestants...

I agree chitra with you to some extent...i think ismail darbar prefers good looking girls...

Yesterday's episode was an interesting one where the male contestants were divided into the four gharanas, though the procedure did seem a little strange....

The two standby candidated were given second chance and they both came out with flying colours and got selected. I think aadesh srivastava's team is the strongest.

I hope they have sanchari on the standby for the females today and she gets selected!

Some of girls selected yesterday were quite mediocre, i thought....i think jatin lalit have got a bad deal....they always got the last chance to choose the contestants and hence could not get the best ones...

I think aadesh has got the best male singers and ismail has the best female ones.

Sa re ga ma to go global
Indian talent hunt show may get licensed versions abroad

By Utpal Borpujari
DH News Service New Delhi:

Indian channels have come up with megahits like "Kaun Banega Crorepati", "Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin" and "Indian Idol" through franchising of original shows on foreign channels, but for the first time ever, there could soon be an Indian programme which might see licensed versions abroad.

The programme about which leading international format distributors are expressing keen interest is Zee TV's latest version of the hugely popular "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" that has four leading music directors from Hindi film industry locking horns with one another. "The international format distributors, who for the first time have heard about this format of top music directors contesting against one another on a reality talent hunt show, have approached us for possible marketing of the concept on channels in other countries," Zee TV's business head Abhijit Saxena told Deccan Herald here.

The concept of "Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005", which has enthused a few international format distributors, sees top music directors Ismail Darbar, Adesh Srivastav, Himesh Reshammiya and the Jatin-Lalit duo contesting for the top honours through 32 shortlisted contestants to be trained by them for six months as the show goes on.

"The format distributors have asked us to prepare what is known in industry parlance 'The Bible' of the show, giving all the details about its concept and execution, so that they can approach channels abroad with the concept," said Mr Saxena.

The show, premiering on June 30, will run for about six months.

The concept-marketing effort will start only after that as Zee TV would like to provide the format distributors with a "lot of footage" from the show for impact, he said.

Twinkle, twinkle...

Twinkle Bajpai, III Yr student at Avadh Girls' College, bags offer from Adesh Srivastava for next film

Shirin Abbas

Shirin AbbasLucknow, July 16: Talent hunts seem to be proving lucky for Lucknow, at least as far as one particular television channel is concerned. Clearing the first big hurdle, city girl Twinkle Bajpai has made it to the list of 32 finalists in the Zee Sa Re Ga Ma PA Challenge 2005. That's not all. While the coming weeks will decide the ultimate winners, music director Adesh Srivastava has already chosen Twinkle to record a song for him.

A B.A. Third Year student of Avadh Girls' Degree College, Twinkle completed her Class X from Emma Thompson School and Class XII from St Teresa's School in the city.

When contacted by Newsline in Mumbai, Twinkle could hardly hide her delight at having come so far. ''But I am trying to brace myself for the tough fight ahead. I know the competition is very tough and I need to give my best. It is not going to be easy,'' she added.

Back home in Lucknow, her mother, Aarti, does not harbour any doubts. ''I am sure she is going to do well. I think my proudest moment was watching her sing in Friday's episode where she was pitted against some very talented girls. Our entire family was rooted to the TV. I must say that while I have heard her sing several times before, I never thought she could sing so well,'' said Aarti.

Twinkle, who has the training of Bhatkande behind her, sang the semi-classical Lata Mangeshkar number, Tumhein yaad kartey kartey jaegi rain saari.

She was lauded by all the judges: Adesh Srivastava, Hemesh Reshamiyya, Ismail Darbar and Jatin-Lalit for her attempt.

Making her victory even more special is the offer from Adesh Srivastava to sing for him in his next movie.

''That's a big opening. It's still a long journey ahead in the competition and every youngster yearns for recognition and a big break. I am very grateful to Adeshji for giving me a chance,'' she said.

The next phase of the competition begins on July 20 when the contestants will battle it out to make it to the the list of the top 24. After that, the elimination will get tougher by the week till they reach the final tally.

''I hope my training in classical music will stand me in good stead. I thank Zee TV for giving me the platform to realise my dreams and reach this far. It has been a very memorable experience throughout,'' said Twinkle.

If Twinkle does manage to make it to the top slot she will be the second girl from Lucknow to shine through on Zee TV. In Zee's last talent hunt, Zee Cinestars ki Khoj, Aditi Sharma, another local girl, was declared winner. She is now shooting for her forthcoming film.
