'Rote' singers galore in reality shows: Lata Reality show contestants may court audience votes and judges' accolades over their competent rendition of evergreen old Bollywood melodies, but Lata Mangeshkar doesn't consider it the apt criteria for selecting new singing talents, dismissing the discoveries as 'rote singers'. Admitting cabarets to be the only type of film songs she consciously avoided, she says sister Asha Bhonsle was better suited than her for singing fast.

The new talent is getting better exposure with this format

Huh? What does she mean? Does she expect people to compose a new song for every single contestant and then make them sing it? 😕

I agree with T... it wld be illogical then.

Well, she is Lata Mangeshkar.

So what if one day she says she does not want flyovers outside her balcony, anticipating public sympathy and then when finds that the public of Mumbai did not support her thoughts, immediately said she had never made the said statement 😕

Does this mean that if tomorrow, someone compliments her songs and praises her highly then it would be acceptable to have such talent shows, with contestants singing her songs.

Imagine the round one of a talent contest, where the contestant is from a remote part of a State. Is the contestant, who has good genuine singing talent, supposed to contact lyricts, musicians etc. so as to showcase his talent to the best extent possible.

Or should he abandon himself to the whims of the production house and leave the choice of new songs to them, which might give them an oppurtunity to manipulate those as well.

Or Can he chose the best songs, which suit his talent and which will show case his talent in the most befitting manner, before the audience, so as to get a fair chance of sucess.

Lataji is great, the evergreen melody queen. however, Lataji is talking so much about the budding singers, why she cannot raise her voice on the detoriated quality of bollywood music ? It looks like she has always problems with the new singers coming to the Industry.

Nothing against Lataji... b/c she is one of the voices of India.. but it would be veryhard to compose new songs for all the contastants for all the episodes. SRGMP, II, FG all have somethin in common that they are searchin for new, and good talent. This is the onli format that I can think of that can get us to that goal. The plus is also, instead of singers coming through a back entrance, and we seeing them for the first time when they are singing their first song we instead choose these singers and then support them wen they make their first break into bollywood
