She is right... After all she is the great Lata Manageshkar..... 😊

Yeah, but even then those songs are not always chart toppers. A good singer may end up with a really bad song and get cut based on that. At least with well known songs, one gets to see the real potential of the contestant - they can try to make the song their own instead of going by the rote system.

I agree if the Final 2 are given completely new songs to present. Then its fair. But, for every contestant to do so is impractical.

I dont understand if she is referring to the final 2 or to the entire system of the talent hunt. 😕

Yeah, I remember reading that back in the day she had monopolized the industry by saying that she would not sing for any movie unless all the female parts of the songs were given to her. New talent hardly had a chance to come up in that time.

But, forget about new SRGMP, I dont even remember her coming on the old SRGM as a judge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont really see her promoting new talent that much.

But remember in C2005, Debojit and Vinit were given two new songs to sing !!

Priya di, liked it. I think its human being nature that it takes advantage of being popular and start commenting on anything without thinking. Have anyone saw 'Saaj' movie? it's said that it was real story about her & Asha ji. If that's the truth then I don't know what to say.

I did see a real show with her, usha mangeshkar etc... She is good in singing no doubt about that but as a person I don't know. Usha Mageshkar is famous for 'Jai Santoshi Ma' songs but she didn't sing any song from that movie, I think she was not allowed to, as... But who knows what's the truth.

Well, she is Lata Mangeshkar.

So what if one day she says she does not want flyovers outside her balcony, anticipating public sympathy and then when finds that the public of Mumbai did not support her thoughts, immediately said she had never made the said statement 😕

Does this mean that if tomorrow, someone compliments her songs and praises her highly then it would be acceptable to have such talent shows, with contestants singing her songs.

Imagine the round one of a talent contest, where the contestant is from a remote part of a State. Is the contestant, who has good genuine singing talent, supposed to contact lyricts, musicians etc. so as to showcase his talent to the best extent possible.

Or should he abandon himself to the whims of the production house and leave the choice of new songs to them, which might give them an oppurtunity to manipulate those as well.

Or Can he chose the best songs, which suit his talent and which will show case his talent in the most befitting manner, before the audience, so as to get a fair chance of sucess.

Sonu Nigam's Deewana was launched during his SRGMP days. He had already received critical acclaim for his singing and style on the show and therefore the comparison cannot stand here.

Thats exactly the point I was trying to make Mr. Qwerty.

She is Lata Mangeshkar and she is not bothered about the budding talent which is waiting in the wings to take their bow. She does not want them to sing her songs. She wants them to sing new songs.

I was merely trying to think from the point of view of a budding artiste. Where will he go. Will he or she have to succumb to the unscruplous ways of this world.

But then, she is Lata Mangeshkar. How does all this matter to her.

I dont necessarily agree with her. In her singing days it was her singing every song and if she didnt sing, she made sure she threw tantrums so that other upcoming singers are snubbed. It is much more competitive now for singers with somany coming out. I do agree that public voting is not good, but talent shows are agood way to showcase someone's talents/ Thats how SUnidhi, Shreya, Kunal have come. I dont like this holier than thou attitude of her.I think she has forgotten the days when she was imitating Shamshad Begum in the beginning of her career just o get a foothold in the industry. She is not at all for encouraging new talent and given a choice she will probably want to sing for the rest of her life.

Exactly. Deewaana was also launched after a long struggle by Sonu. It is not possible for a new singer with talent, but no $ or Godfather to get a lyricist and composer to create a new piece for him/her. Or even if he/she is a composer + singer + songwriter, who will take the risk of producing an album for him/her?

Its not really practical, IMHO.

Yup Tanaz. and if I am not mistaken, his HMV series of Phir Rafi had also released by then and music companies recognised his talent, at that time, as a Rafi style of singer.
