I really can't digest it completly the reason is that Lata , when started her career was not of strong social back ground in any way(other than her talent) and she was very well established in the industry at a young age. I don't understand how can a young girl\lady can control the male dominant field of music industry in a country like INDIA during those days (50s-60s).
I never read any thing bad about her character and I don't think she had links from BHAI LOG either so why would any one listen to her or wanted only her as a singer. If there were so many options other than Lata tau kis ko pari thee kay Lata kay nakhray uthata ... isn't it . 😉
I agree that she herself was a novice when she entered the industry with no base or support or godfather herself. The fact that she found a foothold for herself and consequently for Asha Bhosle speaks volumes of her talent. You cannot take that away from her. Coming into a North dominated/ Bong dominated Hindi film industry, from a socially not so well off background and then establishing herself was a stupendous feat, which is very commendable.
I did not comment on that factor at all.
I was only speaking of the era that came thereafter, where, possibly the nasha of power got to her and she challenged SDB that no music director would be successful without her. That smacks of blind arrogance.
SDB and OPN and others proved that they dont need LM for making brilliant music.
If she was praising Asha for her ability to sing songs for Helen, I am certain she could have had a better choice of words.
Having said all this, I would agree that journos do sometimes twist words to suit their convenience. But in the case of Lataji, I have observed that she does go ping pong on her words too often.

The problem is that young generation (in general) though have alot of talent some times go for a short cut instead of going through rigrous training and having a strong base. One music teacher told me that on many occassions students ask him to teach only songs instead of going into raga details. Any true and honest teacher or ture or honest artist would oppose this idea. To practice one song from great artist is not wrong untill it is used to enhance ones already strong based talent. it shouldn't be the BASE itself. And if some one is base less then probably he \she win the contest would get momentary appreciation from masses but then when they face the reality they may not be able to take one or to steps let alone moving along the pace of music industry. One has to have originality.
If you read her sentence in this perspective you will not find it negative instead it is very positive , honest and fair.
👏 very well put. I agree that to suceed in life, you need a strong base, which comes only with practice and with dedicated effort.
A Maestro like her, who is a public figure, and who knows that every sound byte of hers is like nectar to her fans and to young aspiring artistes surely can use a better choice of words if she did not intend to put them down.
Maybe your manner of interpretation is right, but I feel, in that case, she could have certainly have had more dignity in her words.

😳 Thanks Priya ji,
I am an average person with average intellect but people who run such shows have such a high IQs that they can move public according to their wish so if they want to change some thing for good they surely can. There is nothing impossible the only thing required is good intention.
Dont be too sure of that Dawnji. Gajendra Singh has moved on from making one of the best talent contests that I have seen to making the most trashiest contest🤢. His IQ is definitely suspect now.
Our Average Iqs are far far superior to their above average or High iqs
