I did not have the time to read all of the comments but thanks to Barnali for
opening this topic. I don't think that many non-Bengalis are aware of this
awesome talent. While her romantic songs are unforgettable, I will always
chertish the classically based songs such as Bandho Jhulona and Ki Kore
Sajoni.

I saw Shubho Mahurat recently and I had somehow guessed it in the first few minutes itself that Sharmila was the one !!! But I must say the movie had some very bold bed room scenes.Raakhi was just too good !!

Utshab had Rituparna as the young daughter? right?? The movie was good. I liked Prosenjit's portrayal of confusion, herlplessness, frustration. I hope we are talking of the same movie. You see I don't really watch too many..😳

Well Ritupo*no is famous for his 'erotica' 😆so to speak. yeah....we are indeed talking bout the same flick 'Utshab' portraying Prosenjit & Rituparna as a married couple.....infact that movie dealt with something even more daring as in 'incest' for the 1st time in Beng cinema......am not sure we're supposed to speak on these lines here 😕....since it is not related to music 😛

As for 'Shubho mahurat' Sharmila was the obvious suspect but I liked the way Ritupo*no portrayed Rakhi's character....playing detective to the core.....& her unique mannerisms including her incessant chatter bout her pet cat 'Horidashi' 😆 which made it seem all too real. 😊

Thanks Barnali for the post. You guys have mentioned some great numbers by Sandhya Mukherjee. Other than those, right now what I can recall

HOYETO KICHUI NAHI PABO TOBUO TAMAYE AMI DUR HOTE
KE TUMI AMARE DAKO PALAKE LUKAYE THAKO(AGNIPARIKKHA)
CHANDAN PALANKE SHUYE EKA EKA KI HOBEY

I am nostalgic about UTTAM-SUCHITRA movies. I have seen my parents going ga-ga over those movies, now passed on to me and I hope I will be able to pass to the next generation too. I can watch them again and again. The chemistry, they complement each other so well. Agradut, Tapan sinha, Tarun Majumder movies are so good,be it based on city-life or village-life . I still can't get over "BAGHINI". 60-70's was the golden era for Bengali movies. I have collected so many DVDs.

I know, today's Bengali movie quality has deteriorated. Aparnasen-Ritupo*no of course stand different from the rest, their movies have the reality-touch, but not made for all. Somehow I feel that the old movies artistic touch is lost.

Yesudas's version is set bit slow. while sandhya's one is oozing with emotional contnt too esp. lines like "e daaley shey daaley nechey nechey, " whereas "baraso se jalate man kii " sounds bit insipid in comparison, although excellently sung. Thts ofcourse my own opinion and feeling.😊

Bt at places Yesudas's is better than her song. In the Yesudas's song pay attention to the line "Janam janam se hum to pyaase gaa sang mere gaaa...".NOw listen to the Bengali original. Sandhya is unable to tak the gaa... part and goes flat. Maybe as far as singing goes yesudas's is better bt I myself find the sandhya's version more better😊. maybe because of the faster versions or maybe because of some minor tune changes tht hav been made to suit her voice.

I agree to it now Di.... After hearing Sandhya Mukherjee's song I can understand your point of view now... And completely agree to it.😊
