There seems to be a recurring theme that Indian women should only wear western if they have the 'right' figure for it...i.e. being thin and the girls on EMET who aren't thin are said not to suit the clothes.

Firstly it shouldn't matter what your figure is as long as you are comfortable in what you wear. Some of these girls come from small towns where they do not wear western clothes very much so they don't have a chance to experiment and get comfortable in the clothes ergo they look odd in the outfits they are wearing.

I cant understand why the participants of Saregamapa are always in western attire. Even when they are singing traditional songs they are dressed in extremely hip clothing. And for some participants it does not suit at all.

I am not sure I am feeling this way because I am from the western world but I think it looks inappropriate - specially when they are dressed in sweat pants and hooded tops singing traditional songs. Or dressed in leather - top-to-bottom, looking like a members of a bikers gang.

I feel Indian clothing is so beautiful, colourful and classy and should promote it thorugh such shows.

Point well respected..by the way, you sound Indian.

Yes, cos western outfits are for the figure conscious women to throw around an attitude and not to keep them protected from weather..... πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

This attitude of wearing what makes you comfortable makes one look sloppy.. Girls have a figure to show off... guys just have the brawn.. so guys should stop wearing shirts if they are the brawny bunch.....thats fashion.... πŸ˜†

Comfortable doesn't have to result in a person looking sloppy....

As for guys walking around without their shirts on...if they are comfortable dong that then i don't see why they shouldn't (barring legal implications of walking around bare-chested πŸ˜›)...if i don't like what i see i simply won't cast my glance that way πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

No probs with western wear, only thing is that the designers who are handling the costume of EMAET are not that good. Some of the dresses look quite gaudy. The outfits worn by Fame Gurukul and Indian Idol contestants are much better..However, I agree that the EAMET contestants should sometimes wear Indian dresses too. After all Variety is the spice of life and Indian dresses are cool too.πŸ˜›
