Indian men wear pants and shirts, t-shirts and jeans, ties, and even western shoes. Why is that considered to be perfectly fine, and even necessary, but if a woman tries to dress foreign, she is picked on.

I don't remember the last time I wore a kurta or any Indian suit - I usually wear western clothes. And it's not just because I live in the US. Even people in India do the same.

We chastise politicians if they go on a foreign trip wearing a dhoti or a khadi kurta - we want them to be formally dressed in a suit. Why not the same criteria for women? Why is Sonia Gandhi always expected to wear a sari? Why cannot she wear a skirt or a gown once in a while?

Think about it. If it is okay for men, why not for women? Are we still a chauvnist society? Why is a woman supposed to uphold her traditions and present the Indian culture to the world, while the Indian man has no such obligations?

wld it have any correlation with all the mangoes one has eaten? J/K😆

fwiw, i think desi women can look great in western clothes but they have to have the figure for it. it's a different cut, different style etc. Very few people around who look good in anything they wear anyways. Conversely, very few western gals really look as nice in desi clothes.

i think the idea shld be to stick to whatever looks good on u, not necessarily to conform to narrow expectations or fashion.

fwiw, it is possible we might think of desi girls looking best in a certain attire because we've been culturally wired since childhood to seeing it like that. but the next generation might have a different take on it?

Worst part is those fineries - nets from the dupatta getting stuck on your watch while dancing !!!😕😕

🤗🤗

Lekin ab mujhe lag raha hai, ki your main problem is not the senseless price of the attire, but girls paying more attention to their entangled dupatta while dancing rather than you 😛

I actually think the problem is their dupatta getting entangled in his watch (don't ask me how 😛), and he not being able to free himself in time when his mom walks in

(gg u wilbe happy to hear me say this on he golden one)

Yet what about the Americans they also makes mistakes in outfits....

Aslo, if an American wears a Sari to an indian event why is there not such outrage?

my opionon, its not what one wears its the personality...(in otherwords not the outfit one wears make the person its the person itself that matters 😊

There's a name for those mistakes - it's called wardrobe malfunction 😛

I am surprised at this kind of discussions on the forum?! Out here every one has given their own different preferences. Similarly the people organising & sponcering the clothes have their own preferences on how they want the look of the show to be. When we are ourselves comfortable with both Indian & Western clothes, what is the point in pushing the program to follow a decoram?? I feel this is no point of discussio at all - if only we cud just stick to music...
