Isnt that what discussions all about. Not all minds think alike and when diverse minds meet, there is flow of ideas and commingling of thoughts. It only paves the way for expanding our own knowledge base.

If all agree to one school of thought, then discussions wont happen, it would just be a monologue and life is so restricted to a narrow lane.

The richness of life can only be appreciated in its diversity... the abundance... the beauty... and the variety

For those who know little about Asha's songs and think that OPN is the only one who gave her good songs, I have nothing to say.

Also for those who think any Suman K, Sudha D and Vani J can be moulded into Asha, I have nothing to say either. I have heard Asha when she had a child-like voice; the sparks of brilliance were very much there. Hers was a talent just waiting to explode and OPN came along to take the credit.

For those who think that geniuses can say whatever they please, again I have nothing to say.

punjini ji, I guss it is all my fault.

You already know that how much respect and great admiration that I have for your comments and writing.

Here is a quote from Asha ji I am a satisfied soul, she is satisfied with her ''career,'' satisfied with her ''family life'' and satisfied with the way she is. Being Asha Bhosle is enough for Asha Bhosle. And that is an achievement worthy of an award. Then the reality of the truth took over. But I'll just say that I am lucky... and continue with my work. Just like I have always done.''

lemme try this again, without the line that was distracting:

and from the lil that i know of that era, my impression is that Asha's best music was from her era with OPN. also, whatever someone might think of her recent-time remixes, good or bad, a lot of it is also based around her songs with OPN. ***

actually, somewhat ironic to hear that she achieved so much even into contemporary times. dont we have any problem now in making those fine distinctions between commercial success and musical achievements? have we already forgotten the Marketing-And-Music-Dont-Mix mantra?

please do correct me if i am mistaken here

Yes you are mistaken, so I am correcting you, since you have asked. Asha's best was in the golden era which consisted of music NOT ONLY by OPN but also SD Burman, RD Burman, Ravi and some others. I would urge you to hear the songs made by SD and RD for Asha. These are easily available at CD shops. RDB and Asha made a smash hit combination as much as OPN and Asha did.

I do not hear remixes nor do I intend to. If a separate thread is started on remixes, I might join in to make some comments. I have only heard Asha's golden era songs and some of the songs in later films. Remixes and I don't mix.

I am unable to understand what you are saying about commercial success and musical achievements. If it is with reference to another thread then maybe you can quote from there and make the context clear. Are you saying that I should condemn Asha for remixing her old songs since I don't like remixes? Well, certainly I would rather hear her original songs than the remixes.

the pt is simply this- a lot of asha's best work was with opn. since u chose to say that she went on to achieve greatness without opn, i felt compelled to point out that in terms of music her achievements are perhaps greatest when she was with opn. i am using the same orthodoxy that has been displayed elsewhere in making that stmt. a lot of her latter day success was mkting, or is it not so?

and i am not the one who's in the habit of condemning folks in any case. am just trying to see the consistency between different impressions created in diff places. am all for asha, but wanted to know where you were coming from, that's all.
