Oh well, I haven't seen Boot Polish, so I don't know whether Lapak Jhapak was sung in a jail or not. Someone said Boot Polish, so the first song that came to mind was Lapak Jhapak 😛 😛

Yeah...it was the best song of the movie, in my opinion 😊

I also remember this other song from BOOT POLISH..."Nanhe Munne Bachhe Tere Mutti Mein Kya Hain"...with all the scrubby but adorable little boys n girls with the kind hearted and lame David. Daisy Irani was so cute ! 😛

One more from Guide - Saiyaan Beimaan based on raag jhinjhoti.
Waheeda's dance was superb, the abhinaya astonishing when she said "saiyaan beimaan". You could feel that she had begun to despise Dev Anand's philandering ways. A fine example of expression through dance. Immediately after her song comes Dev Anand's song "tere pyaar mein chaaha kya, kya mila, bewafaa" in which again Dev's disappointment and hurt shows. The line "tere mere dil ke beech ab to sadiyon ke fassle hain, yakin hoga kise ki hum tum ek raah sang chale hai" has been shown so evocatively that one can't fail to be moved!

Absolutely...i used to think that Whaeeda could'nt dance (especially after watching "Paan Khaiyyon Saiyan" )...but after watching that dance for that song ...I changed my mind and my opinion on her dancing skills...she also proved it again in the song " Rangeela Re..."

I think 'Piya tose naina laage re' is one of the best picturised stage songs.. Waheeda was absolutely brilliant... and even in terms of composition, I would rate this song as one of his top 5 songs.. Lata also sounded so 'surili'...

What about the evergreen dosti song "yeh dosti hum nahi chodenge"? Of course everything about Sholay is wonderful but this song is memorable because it was the first time that friendship between two men was shown in this manner. Don't know who conceived the idea of the scooter getting separated from its side car and re-joining again but it was brilliant. The Bangalore-Mysore highway shown in the song is very nostalgic for me. The angry young man smiled a lot in this song which was a pleasure to behold. Loved the line "jaan se bhi khelenge tere liye lelenge sabki dushmani". Many dosti songs have been made after this but none that was better filmed than this.

"kitni khoobsura yeh tasveer hai
mausam bemisaal benazir hai
yeh kashmir hai, yeh kashmir hai"

I thought Kashmir valley was shot very beautifully in this song.. also the camera movement in the entire song, and the way the stanza lines are divided between amitabh, rakhee and vinod mehra is pretty interesting..

Hi Punjini,
What a great post! I am a diehard fan of our dear old bollywood gaanaas....but mostly I prefer the oldies....ONE of my all time fav is as follows:
A chikna AND svauve Dev Anand is snubbed royally by Nutan for the first 20 minutes of the film...then he finds himself falling headlong in love with this lambi heroine! They climb up the Qutub Minar...SD Burman rendering a fantastic score and one can ALMOST FEEL that one is going round and round up the Minar...can you remember the sets of violins creating this particular sound....then it is NUTAN who hears a particular tune...and WHAT A TUNE....she calls it "KHAMOSHI KI AWAAZ...hm hm hm"....Dev says: "Apney ko to sirf ek hi awaaz sunai dey rahi hai....", "Woh Kaunsi ?", "Ddil ki awaaz...jo key rahi hay hum, hum, hum"....Then at the top of the Minar Dev says "Ek ek ek matlab ki baat sunti jayiye"...then Nutan hears the tune again and my Favourite song goes...."Dil ka bhanwar karey pukar...pyar ka raag suno"...what a song, what voices...what people (I mean Dev and Nutan)....in my personal opinion it is one of the MOST ROMANTIC of songs.....every time I hear it or see it...I get goosebumps.... 😳

Not just this particular song, but almost all the songs of this movie are so well picturised.

This movie is one of my most favourite movies and the song " Tu Kahan Yeh Baata, Iss nashilli raat mein", picturised on Dev Anand walking through the lanes at night, in the hope of finding his love, is just so poignant. Tired after a long drive on a scooter, he goes on none the less just for a glimpse of his lady love😳.

"Sun Le tuu dil ki sadaa, pyaar se pyaar sajaa" picturised towards the ending of the climax, when the parents oppose the wedding and they do not want to get married without parental approval is another beautiful song from the movie.

But my all time favourite is the title song "Tere Ghar ke Saamne, Ek ghar banaoonga, tere ghar ke saamne, duniya basaaonga, tere ghar ke saamne" picturised on a handsome Dev Anand, sitting in a bar, imaging his love and seeing her, NUtan, in the beer glass, chiding him for drinking, is full of romance, fun and love.😳😳😳

Madhubala there was Awwwwww 😳 😳

What a lovely song again.

An upset Dev Anand walks off angrily and Madhubala follows him to this place where the cute song follows. The whole style of rootna aur manana was very nicely captured with her liltating style too.
