It's funny but I have also noticed that despite whatever the judges might say about singing in your own original voice, yet whenever a singer copies the original singer very well, he/she is given praise. So there is no escaping the fact that copying is an art that a singer has to possess.

The qawallis sung by Debojit, Himani etc did not sound good because they did not copy the original song well enough, and sang their own versions.

In the current SRGMP format, too much importance was given to "performance". I think that moving or dancing at the same time as singing takes away some of the energy that the singers would have put into their singing. Nihira and Swananda, whom I rate as the best female singers in the show, were not good dancers but rather made their voice do all the acrobatics. Had there been a panel of judges instead of public voting, these two would not have got out from the show.

👏 very true...

Just got to see the episode in which Tabu was the guest (Singapore gets the episodes one week later). I wish Tabu had been a little more forthright instead of being politically correct. She saw to it that all the contestants got equal praise. Of course, she is not a musical expert, so it is too much to expect her to give critical comments!

This concept of regional voting really baffles me. When a majority of people from NE vote for Debo, majority of North India votes for Vinit and majority of South India votes for hema, it is very clear that quality of singing is the last thing on the minds of the people. Irrespective of how a singer sings in any particular round, the people of his state will keep voting for him. How does this benefit the cause of music? Where are the connoisseurs of music?

If you use only public voting to eliminate 40 contestants, chances are the good ones will be eliminated in the beginning. I think every round shd be a reflection of:

1) Public Voting - 10%

2)Studio public voting -5%

3)Orchestra people voting -10%

4)Mentor's voting (except for candidates own mentor) - 15%

5)Neutral, knowledgeable judges voting - 60%

And no natak related to personal life or love life or maa ka sapna type allowed.

Participants can dance, if they want to, but marks should solely be given on singing performance!

Yes, this is a fantastic suggestion. SRGMP needs to give weightage to the votes along the lines of what you have suggested. It will eliminate a lot of biases.

I would like to see more suggestions for an improved SRGMP 2006. I am planning to send the link for this to the SRGMP people so that they can use the inputs.

One round which used to exist in SRGP long long back was the "chord round" which I used to enjoy a lot. A contestant had to sing a song in a scale set by the accompanying orchestra. This was a round in which many faltered.

public voting should be done at the end when only cream of participant filter by expert is remaining i.e final four , so any body will win does not matter.
No tamasha ( all HR nutnki should not allow), personal life disussion , politics should not allow.
participant can not play with beats.
when mentor gives less point he need to specify reason for cutting point.
for HR no entry in saragamap.

Public voting should only be a percentage of the total count. If you see an earlier post in this thread, you will see a suggestion for 10% weightage to be given to public voting, 5% to orchestra voting, something for mentor voting and so on. It need not be absolute public voting because the public is too regional in outlook. 60% weightage must be given to a panel of judges who are from different states, different genres (music directors, folk musicians, classical musicians and so on).

What about the concept of yellow cards and red cards, Agnipariksha etc? Should the same format be followed?
