Here is my very humble opinion..based on years learning and teaching Carnatic classical...I have only heard Hindustani classical....not learnt it.
I felt that Nihira was a better singer than Himani. Her sur rarely slipped. I also felt that her song selection was always not the best...and she could have been showcased better.
I thought that Himani was a inferior singer(technically - when compared to Nihira) blessed with a very strong voice and was lucky to pick songs that matched her strengths. Her alaap (I am using the south indian meaning of the word... I don't know what it would be called in Hindustani classical) in jiya dhadak dhadak was weak.
However she will do very well in her career because when she does sing the songs that suit her voice, she sings them very well.
Nihira may have a harder time professionally because there are many more singers in her genre like Shreya or Alka Yagnik.
There is a word called "saareeram"...resonance. That is very important in a voice. For women, there should be "mitaas"...sweetness. Hema and Nihira had it in plenty.
There was a great singer in the 50's and 60's called GNBalasubramanian...GNB. He used to go besura in the varnams quite often...the audience used to patiently wait because his voice needed warming up. By the time he had sung a few songs...he was unstoppable and brilliant. So going besura may not stop you from being successful if you have other strengths. On another note...MS Subbalakshmi was fantastic with bhajans and created that bhakti bhav because of her surilee resonating voice. However, when it came to delivering a complex raagam thaanam pallavi, most concert lovers would prefer to listen to DK Pattamal or MLVasanthakumari. MS ruled only in HER genre. Again with due respect...I don't enjoy bhajans sung by Latha...I don't get the bhakti bhav no matter how well she has sung it. My point is that most folks are successful in the area of their strength... so there is room in this industry for all these contestants.

one thing is that though we did a learn form anuraag ji, however looks like he has also learnt a lot from us..Isn't it anuraag ji? as u are management consultant , you will agree that whenever , when you put people out of their comfort zone or popular beleive, it will evoke sharp reactions....this is what has happened here....i really loved you first two posts( which i cut and pasted in a new thread) but the third one which you wrote on the new thread , i disagree with few points.. I have no issues where you are putting your website as part of u r signature.. 100 out 100 people would have done it ...and as u have metnioned that u gave it for a different reason..so i buy that....let me come to the point..

1. When u say NIHIRA went out of surs , lot of times, can you give examples , where did she go wrong? you must know EXAMPLE TEACHES BETTER THAN PERCEPT.

2. I was really suprised when u said debo has dictions problem whereas you never mentioned about hema's Diction problem which is far more more distinctive...

3. I agree that HIMANI voice has lot of "pain".

4. Did you watch other contestants like SHARIB, SWANANDA, UJJAINI....

5, Also i would like to know more about your views on mentors ( from thier music sense perspective) and your all time favourite MDs.

can you please respond to questions...it is very important for you to answer these things...or else next time if somebody comes out with such analysis , no body will beleive him.her...also i have tothink 100 times before reproducing this kind of articles..

Lot of the members, requested Mr.Anurag to post his views.Now that he has done, most of the responses are not in great spirit to his analysis.Not necessary that u have to agree, but I'm sure he will not post anymore. Thats what I think.

this is what happens when your post is biased.
There are people like Kishore Bhakta, Ruby_bindaas, musicbuff, musicpulse & others who are also sangeet vishard , read their opinion & posts you will know why people are unhappy.
