Nice topic,Sinha Ji.
I agree with the point you made about Anu.He has indeed given quite a few good songs. His recent Umrao Jaan,Jaanemann are also pretty good.

regarding ARR,He might have been inspired from some beats here and there and used them in interludes/preludes,But I bet, each and evry tune of his is 100% original.

Thank you for starting this great topic! I don't have enough knowledge about raagas to comment but I would love to read all the inputs from the people that have vast knowledge about this such as yourself. 😊

Sinha ji, that was just a few examples. The list is very long. In most of the cases you will find the music similar, but word to word copy is not possible in such condition. If you hear 'Mere rang main', the entire music is similar but word meanings are completely different.

Even Shaloy Mehbooba Mehbooba is inspired by 'Say You Love Me (Demis Roussos)'

Dear in my oopinion

mehbooba mehbooba is inspiration, the soul of the song is brilliant saxaphone use in interludes and grunty bass voice of Pancham. Of course who will forget eh fleeting chords with mysterious effect.

Anu Malik got outcasted as copy cat, while this appears to be true, humbly I would like to draw attention towards his great work as well.
He has given raaga based melodious songs in 80s, do you know there was a song called 'aa jara mere humnasheen' in 1984 by Mohd Rafi, the inter lude of this song was latter used to make 'chori chori ye nazare mili' in 1999.
Both by AM, also song mere humsafar mere paas aa from refugee has flavour of Kalyan. Another I mentioned is mujhe kuch kahna hai(Shivranjani)>
His father was a classical singer Sardar Malik & he has given some teaching to his son it seems. But as you see, his efforts go unnoticed because of his copycat impression, this is what HR must avoid at this point, if he wants to make a long lasting impression.

I totally agree with Sinhaji here. Anu Malik has given some of the wonderful, melodious songs over the past decades but as Sinhaji said, people forget about these because of his some copied compositions. Here are some songs by Anu Malik which I really like (randomly listed). I know a couple of these are partially inspired by other songs:

1. Tere Dar Pe Sanam (Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi)

2. Yeh Kyan Hua (Tamanna)

3. Sabki Baaratein Aayeen (Jaanam Samjha Karo)

4. Chhup Gaya (Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rahte Hain)

5. Hamen Jabse Mohabbat (Border)

6. Sandese Aate Hain (Border)

7. Ho Nahin Sakta (Diljale)

8. Raat Ka Nasha (Asoka)

9. Roshini Se (Asoka)

10. Kyun Baar Baar (Filhaal)

11. Taaren Hain Baarate (Viraasat)

12. Aate Jate Jo Milta Hain (Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega)

13. Dhalne Lagi Hai Raat (Inteha)

14. All Refugee songs (Refugee)

15. Ajnabi Sheher (Jaan-E-Mann)

16. Humko Maloom Hain (Jaan-E-Mann)

17. Sau Dard (Jaan-E-Mann)

18. Hai Mera Dil (Josh)

19. Chura Lo Na Dil Mera (Kareeb)

20. Ek Saathi Aur Bhi Tha (LOC Kargil)

21. Pyaar Bhara Geet (LOC Kargil)

22. Main Hoon Na (Main Hoon Na)

23. Tumse Milke Dil Ka (Main Hoon Na)

24. Behka Diya Hamein (Umrao Jaan)

25. Pehle Pehel (Umrao Jaan)

26. Salaam (Umrao Jaan)
