Very good post, NB ... this is something we have discussed many times before on different posts ... the characterization of the female lead is the most important for a show to succeed in India, at least for the TRP audience.
I'm not actually sure I want RR to be among the top TRP shows ... because I don't watch most of them. 😆
But I DO want to watch a good love story, Rangrasiya was promoted as a love story ... so I am very disappointed with the way Paro's character is repeatedly sidelined time and again. The show started off brilliantly ... the backgrounds and tragic pasts of BOTH the characters were etched out beautifully. Somewhere along the line, soon after the witness protection plan began, it became all about Rudra ... his part, his mother, his father, his anguish, his bitterness ... his pain was thrust down our throats time and again ... till I for one, had an overdose of it, and completely stopped feeling sorry for him. And Paro's was completely ignored.
A love story needs both sides to be well balanced ... I think the makers were so eager to make us empathise with Rudra's pain after declaring him to be an animal ... that they went overboard. And Paro remained very superficially written ... her emotions were given hardly any time or space. How and why she fell in love with Rudra ... is it actually love or just blind devotion or infatuation ... what does she really want from this marriage ... nothing is clear. And if the viewers are confused about Paro, then the show loses its pull completely.
Also I agree with what someone said about the pace. Most shows take ages over tracks ... here entire tracks are wrapped up within a week or two. Yes, the show doesn't drag ... but it also means that they don't give enough time to build up emotions and layer them properly. Nor do they allow the audience time to connect with the emotions.
Having said that, I'm still enjoying RR tremendously .. especially the last couple of days when some attention has been given to Paro. I don't want her to become the all-knowing perfect heroine of most high-TRP shows ... but I do want to know her thoughts and feelings more. So I will be happy with moderate TRPs and more attention to Paro's character ... I need to connect more to her, because that's when I enjoy a show the most.
And I would like to see Rudra beginning to change under Paro's influence ... because that's what all good love stories are about ... a harsh man changing with the love of a beautiful woman.
Again ... this is the makers' story to tell the way they want to tell it ... being an avid viewer of the show since the very first episode, I am just offering some feedback on what I feel are the lacunae, and what I would like to see.
