I personally always look for actors who rise above the mediocre script they have been given the underdogs literally
Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained comes to my mind as my personal example of brilliancy in acting You had Jamie Foxx as the cocky fast talking gun toting free man Christopher Waltz as the sophisticated bounty hunter and Caprio as the brutal sugar plantation owner
They had snazzy lines very stylish mannerisms and dialogues scenes and plots built to enhance that all the more and when you have good actors the outcome of course will be first rate and the end product highly saleable But I found while watching my viewing experience of the film lacked a certain je ne sais quoi or so I thought Just the regular Hollywood Western blockbuster albeit a very stylized spaghetti cowboy version and I was prepared to enjoy the film for the entertainment quotient and not expect more till Samuel L Jackson as the staunchly loyal house slave entered the film frame
He had nothing going for him his clothes were coarse and cheap He did not tote any gun smartly tucked away somewhere only to be whipped out nattily when the going got tough for a shoot out No witty dialogue No scenes to showcase him In fact he was very much in the background for most of the time except when he chose to reveal facets of his own personality at surprising intervals I pretty soon figured out he was a Oreo cookie desperately wanting to be as white as his master if not surpass him and soon that is how I visualized him every time he came on the screen- Caucasian and even when he got shot in the kneecaps and knows he is about to be killed he still kept up that uppity white man sense of superiority like his Master That film rose above the ordinary and became something close to a masterpiece but stopped short for Tarantino movies can never be classified as such
When you have powerful character sketching etching potent emotive scenes written by good writers for specific characters coupled with punch dialogues ala Rajnikanth for them along with suitable ambience settings costume direction and good actors Lights Camera Action will definitely have a superior feel to it Hell this PH managed to make one of their former Male actors whose acting skills were rather mediocre but with a powerful character sketch and dialogues scenes and tracks to enhance him too look very super starrish
Yes Ankita is a good actor but I think overall the technical editing and directional touches were more contributive She was restrained and at times a teensy weensy OTT but managed to deliver the message Hell Hath No Fury unlike the last couple of times when I thought she was trying too hard to be a coquette I liked the way she danced last night a lot more graceful than her first performance Did she overshadow Ashish Not really Did he dominate Not really
2 good actors who managed to look sparkling in that scene due to the reasons I have given above but did they burn for me no not really more of dramatic moment with masala
I have found in RR the stinging zingers and dramatic scenes are the rulers and they make or break actors and it is a pity it is not generously shared amongst all It is often lopsided more often than not It would have levelled the playing field and made for more considerable viewing pleasure I alas have yet to still to find that certain je ne sais quoi here in RR
Now my Kostin Did you actually read what I wrote? 😃
