Khanak walked form one corner of the room to the other, her panick returning in full measure. It had been hours since Khushboo had thrown that notion onto her; the notion that if you did not give your husbamds what they wanted they'd move to "bigger, better things" Khanak could not ge Khushboo's words out of her head."Trust me Khanak" she had said. "You don't want to do this to Shaan----he is a 'man' afterall----and a 'man' will waiver if you don't satify him----aray yay toh aadmi ki fitrut mian hota hain!!"
Khanak pouted and wrung her hands as she recalled. "No but Shaantanu will NEVER be unfaithful to me!" she said loudly to herself. "Wohh aisay nahi hain----jub mainay unhay bataya tha---tohh unhon nay meri baat mani thee---mujhay support kiya tha----iss liyay kay wohh mujh say pyaar kartay hain! Aur pyaar main yay sub 'affairs' wafairs nahi hotay!" she said decisively to the empty room and fell much more confident.
It was right for her to feel so, she thought. Shaan had been a complete sport about respecting Khanak's wishes. He was also very casual about it, not putting pressure on Khanak, behaving as though it was normal for a couple to sleep together and not do any hanky panky. They both still shared the same bed, ofcourse, but Shaan made sure that he didn't touch Khanak; well unless you did not count the kiss on the cheek that he gave her evey night before sleeping; and also unless you did not count the kiss on the cheek HE demanded back from her every night too. That was it. Two cheek kisses exchanged every night and sweet dreams.
But as Khanak thought of the past month Shaan had spent with her, her face suddenly fell as abrupt memories of the day a fortnight ago, came rushing to her.

Tring Tringgg. Tring Tringgg. Tringgg.
Khanak picked up her pillow sleepily and pressed it to her ear trying to drown the sound of the birds. "Itni subah subah panchiyan shor kar rahee hain----" she murmered in her sleep, not opening her eyes. Then suddenly the birds stopped chirping making Khanak jump in her bed with a start, turn and open half her eyes. Shaan was sitting fully dressed on her side of the bed, his hand pressed firmly on the top of the alarm clock at Khanak's bed side table.
"Oh Madam----jub alarm par UTH nahi sakti toh alarm lagati kyun ho?!" Shaan asked sarcastically. Khanak closed her eyes again and pressed the pillow closer to her chest, completely hugging it. Ignoring Shaan she tried to sleep again. Wishing that he was the pillow in Khanak's arms Shaan yelled in her ear "KHANAK!!"
Khanak jerked again. "KYA hain?!" she said whining and slightly angry.
"Utho! Tumhara alaram buj buj kar pagal hogaya hain! Aur main----main studio jar aha hoon!" Shaan said trying to get some major attention from his wife.
"Shaantanuuu-----" Khanak whined again her eyes still closed. "Ek toh---ek toh aap nay mujhay saarii raat sonay nahi diya-----aur upar say----"
Shaan grinned and moved his face closer to Khanak's face, his lips brushing the strands of her hair on her cheek. "Acha? Aray Khanak-----abhee tuk mainay aisa kuch KIYA hee kahaan hain----jiss ki wajah say main tumhay saree raat sonay na doon?" he said huskily, his hot breath into Khanak's ear, thoroughly unsettling her and making her weak.
To stop herself from reacting strongly, Khanak got up suddenly and sat on the bed pushing the pillow away from her body. Shaan got a good frontal view as she did, making him grin naughtily. Khanak, noticing the direction of Shaan's eyes tried to divert the situation. "Wohh aap----aap sari raat----sari raat apnay laptop par video games jo khel rhay thay! ITNA shore horaha tha!!----Uskee awaaz say main SO bhee nahi payee!"
Shaan raised his eyebrows amused. "Well that's the only thing to do by a man whose wife gives him no lift---at night---" he said smiling mischievously. Khanak turned to look at him sharply but said nothing. Shaan suddenly felt bad at his wickedness. Had he not promised himself that he would make every effort o make sure Khanak was comfortable and that she didn't think she was burdening him with this decision? "Just kidding-----" he said kissing Khanak's forehead and moving back quickly.
Khaanak smiled and looked down. Looking up again into Shaan's eyes she saw the glint of mischief back into his eyes. What was he planning now?!
Shaan stared at Khanak for the longest time with that same glint. Then he bent towards Khanak again and whispered in her ear, "Don't make me wait too long----the longer you make me wait----the rougher I will get----the more restless I will get too-----and I know you don't like either----" . And saying this he had left the room, giving Khanak a slight backward glance and half a wink.

Khanak played those words in her mind again and again as shefinally decided to stop pacing the room and sat on the bed. "Don't make me wait too long" Shaantanu had said to her. That was understandable. But WHAT in the world did he mean by the rest of the sentence?"----the longer you make me wait----the rougher I will get----the more restless I will get too-----and I know you don't like either----". He would get rough? Rough as in angry? Deciding to put this adjective away for the time being her mind pondered instead on "restless". What did the word restless mean in this context? She thought. Literally it meant agitated, she knew that. But why would Khanak making him wait make him "agitated and worried"? For another 15 minutes she thought of all the theories of the words that Shaan had said to her two weeks ago and none of them fit. She still had the feeling that she had heard the word "restles" sometime recently. And then she gasped as she remembered who had used it.
Khushboo Bhabhi. And that too just a few hours ago. "MEN ar restless creatures. God has made them so Khanak----and Shaan----he is a 'man' afterall----and a 'man' will waiver if you don't satify him'" This was it. This was what "restless" had meant! Shaan had TOLD her, told her CATEGORICALLY that he if Khanak made him wait, he would GO AHEAD and HAVE an affair?! Khanak could not believe it. Her mouth opened in shock as she registered that Khushboo bhabhi was indeed right. And it made sense too! He had said he would get "restless" and he "knew that she didn't LIKE that"! that's what he had said too! Ofcourse she would NOT LIKE it if he went and had an affair!
Khanak ut both her hands on her face and and sat on the bed worried. "Shaantanu sach main meray saath yay karay gay?" she asked herself making a sad innocent face.

Khanak remained distracted all through dinner that night. More than once Sunil asked her why she looked upset. Khushboo looked at her warningly and Madhvi, who knew nothing, looked concerned.
"Shaan wapis nahi aya abhee tuk Sunil----isee liyay bechari sad hain----laikin yay AAP nahi samjhay gay----" Madhvi said raising a folk in the air.
Khanak nodded towards Sunil who went on to say how hard he used to work in his youth and that Shaan had obviously inherited that trait from him. Khanak knew that Shaan would be late, however. He had called to tell her that his recording would go on till late in the night and he would have dinner and come home. Khanak, whose mind was still reeling with the two and two that she had put together, did not give Shaan a straight answer. When Shaan did not even ask for one and just hung up, Khanak felt like crying.
Hurriedly finishing with dinner and half listening to talks about Khusboo's Godh bharai, Khanak went up to her room early, deciding to go to sleep before Shaan reached home. She just did not feel like talking to him at all. Lying awake in her bed in the darkness for minutes after she lay down, Khanak finally heard the door knob roll in its socket. She hurriedly closed her eyes as Shaan entered.
"I know you're awake Khanak----" Shaan said exasperatedly, wondering why Khanak would pretend to sleep when she was bad at it. Khanak sat up in bed and upturned her nose. "UB kya hua?" Shaan asked her confused as he took his clothes out of the cupboard. Khanak did not answer but glared at Shaan. Shaan shrugged and entered the bathroom. This further angered Khanak and she laid down again, her back towards the bathroom.
"Tumnay toh poocha nahi----laikin main hee bata daita hoon----my day was good----" Shaan said lying down beside Khanak when he came out of the bathroom.
Khanak felt extremely ashamed. In her haste to be angry with Shaan for having an "affair" she had completely forgotten to fulfill her everyday custom of asking Shaan how his day was. She turned guiltily towards Shaan to see him smiling.
"It's okay---" he said before Khanak could apologize. "First recording kay baad main Mitul kay saath coffee par gaya----wahan humay Geeta aur uskee dost bhee mil gayee----"
"Dost?---" Khanak asked sharply. "koun dost?"
"Geeta ki dost---Sonia----nice girl----" Shaan started then sensing the change in expression on Khanak's face (for he could not see clearly) he decided to have some fun. "Haan toh---yea Geeta's friend Sonia----pretty girl-----"
"Acha?" Khanak asked menacingly gritting her teeth and looking away. "Toh Geeta jee ki dost AAPKAY saath kya kar rahee thee?"
"Oh mainay usay coffee peenay kay liyay invite kiya tha----bechari iss shahar main nayee hain----" he said resisting the urge to laugh out loudly at Khanak's change in tone.
"Bechari?!" Khanak said forebodingly. "Toh aap nay usay shahr bhee ghumaya?"
"Haan plan toh yaheen tha-----itna khoobsoorat shahair----saath main khoobsoorat larki-----kisi bhee addmi ki lottery lug jayay----" he said slowly into Khanak's ear.Khanak turned so sharply, Shaan was taken aback. Then he started laughing. Khanak looked at him again but was not amused. " Cmon Khanak I was JOKING-----seriously----acha good night kiss bhee nahi dogee?"
Khanak turned to face Shaan seriously. "Shaantanu---saray mard yahi chahtay hain na?" she asked.
"Kya?" Shaan had stopped laughing. He had sensed the seriousness in Khanak's voice.
"Yaheen---s'ex-----" she said hesitatingly, looking away.
"Khanak---yay tum----" Shaan started a little worried now. "Listen to me Khanak----" he said holding her shoulders and turning her around to face him. He stretched out his hand to open the lamp and saw Khanak's upset face."----listen to me----it's not about that----I LOVE you----for me it matters to me that you are WITH me----you understand?" he shook her a bit.
"Laikin Shaantanu----" Khanak said.
"Nahi Khanak---please understand----it's been---it's been 10 months since we had sex---ten months----" he took a deep breath. "---did it change anyting between us? Did it make a difference? I'm STILL with you! And I am STILL in LOVE with you! And you are still in love with with me aren't you? That's all that matters----" Shaan said desperately , wanting to make Khanak understand. "It's not about that----"Khanak gulped. Shaan pulled Khanak close to him and hugged her tight. "Never EVER say that again----samjhee?"
They broke off from the hug and Shaan looked at a guilty Khanak. Lifting her face with his fore finger he looked at her lips for ten seconds then swooped down to kiss them squarely. Khanak kissed him back as Shaan deepened the kiss, tilting his face so that their noses would not prove to be a barrier in their moment of passion. Shaan broke off from the kiss first.
"Chalo thoree toh progress hui meri----" Shaan said licking his lips and smirking. "From a cheek kiss to a smootch, not bad-----"
Khanak blushed and withdrew herself from Shaan's arms. "Good night---" she said softly.
"Good neend" Shaan replied, turning over on his side of the bed, savouring the pleasure of the kiss that still remained in his mouth.
Khanak lay awake a long time after that even when Shaan's light snores filled the room. She thought about what Shaan had said. About how they had not made love for around ten months now and it had not changed anything between them. She felt like hitting herself, first for suspecting him, then for keeping him from getting his right as a husband. I think it's time for me to make a move, it's time for me to give Shaantanu what he deserves, she thought as she rolled over to her side of the bed.

"Oh I met up with Shaan I told you----" Mitul was telling Natasha at evening tea in their apartment the next day. "He told me about bhabhi----" Mitul and Natasha had finally got married with all the ceremonies and rasams a month ago and Natasha had moved into Mitul's apartment with the blessings of her father. Mrs Malhotra, Mitul's mother, had flown back to America where she was happy.
Natasha looked surprised. "What?!" she said laughing. "You actually sat and listened to the story? What about your sister theory blah blah---" Natasha said her eyes thinning .
"Actually Geeta was there so it was ok. Not bad." Mitul said reasonably. "I tried to explain to him-----tell him where he went wrong----bhabhi obviously discussed it with you didn't she?----"
"ERrmm yea----Khanak tells me everything----" she said going in thinking mode. "But to be honest Mitul---I still don't think this will work out----the guy should make a move----Khanak needs Shaan to talk to her----I mean if Shaan thinks Khanak is going to come up to him randomly one day and say 'Shaantanu---I'm ready----' he's sadly mistaken" she said putting the piece of cake in her mouth.

"Shaantanu----I'm ready----" Khanak stood face to face with Shaan in their room and looked straight into his eyes. Shaan opened his mouth in mingled shock and confusion.
