I worte it on my birthday lol.@Bold: Haha i thought for ages and ages and ages how to make it less dramatic and believable and finally came up with this theory. I also researched a bit on partial amnesia by the way lol but i couldnt find anything on it! So i made up this theory myself 😆
Shaan's eyes shot open exactly at 8 AM the next day. It took him a while to understand why his heart felt so happy, why the morning seemed to shine brighter, why he was smiling. And soon he remembered what had happened last night, how he had made Khanak smile, how she had accepted his offer to be his friend, how she had nodded shyly when he had asked to take her to the doctor. He hurriedly got out of bed, shaved and showered. When he opened the cupboard to take out his clothes his hand hit a box of items, which fell, dispersing all its contents on the carpet. "Damn! I'm already getting late to see Khanak! "he said to himself bending down to clear the mess. But his hand stopped in mid air, as though someone had glued it to space, as he attempted to pick up what had fallen. After a pause which could have lasted minutes, he wasn't sure, Shaan moved his hand forward to pick up the Mangal Sutr that he had tied around Khanak's neck when he had married her. He played with it for a while, encircling it on his wrist, then taking it off again, smiling sadly as he looked at it. His eyes fell on the carpet again and what he saw on it made him choke. It was a polaroid picture. Of his baby. In Khanak's womb. He picked it up and had not even brought it close to his eyes when his vision started to blur because of the tears. He quickly wiped his eyes and brought the picture closer, as thought if he did not, the picture would disappear from his sight. It was a boy, he smiled reminiscently. They had just found out a few days ago before the accident. He had been a little disappointed at first; he had wanted a girl first, he had said to Khanak. But Khanak had been ecstatic to learn it was a boy; so much so that she had been roaming around with the picture in her purse ever since she had got it. The items in the box were Khanak's belongings, those things she had with her when she had got into the accident; the day she had made kheer for Shaan and was bringing it to the office----.
Shaan snapped back to the present, wiped his face messily, picked up all the things and shoved them back into the box. The mangal sutr was still around his fingers. "Should I give it to her to wear?" he wondered. "No. Let's not take this too fast. She's only just agreed to be my friend----" he answered himself and sighing deeply he kept the mangal sutr back in the box but pocketed his baby's picture.

"Khanak yay sari pahen lo. Aur jaldi say tayyar hojao. Humay doctor kay paas 9 bajay pohanchna hain. " Madhvi was saying to Khanak who was sitting on her bed, drinking juice. Shaan entered the room and saw Khanak nodding to his mother politely. Urghhh, he thought. He was late again! Khanak's eyes met his and she immediately looked down. Shaan smirked in his head. She'd always make minimum eye contact with him when they were around Shaan's parents even when Khanak HAD her memory. When Shaan had one day randomly asked her why, she had after much cajoling told him that she didn't want her elders to catch her blushing. Shaan wondered vaguely whether this reason held true even now.
"Mom, what's up? Kaheen ja rahee hain?" he asked his hands in his pockets.
"Haan Khanak ko doctor kay paas lay ja rahi hoon" Madhvi said in a rush, moving forward to leave the room.
"Mom mom mom mom----" Shaan hurriedly got hold of her hand and stopped her and Madhvi looked at him impatiently. "AAP----Khanak ko lay ja rahee hain?". He glanced at Khanak. She was looking at them but immediately looked down when she saw Shaan looking. "Mom----ermm I was thinking----- I wanted to take her" he said
"You do?" Madhvi asked surprised." How come?" she asked meaningfully, her eyes becoming large, questioning Shaan in more than one way.
"Well I----I ----errr----asked her last night-------and errr-----errr she agreed" he said sheepishly.
Madhvi looked at her son closely. "Ek minute baahir ana Shaan" she said and marched outside. Shaan looked over in Khanak's direction who was pointedly looking away. He followed his mom outside the room, closing the door behind him.
"What is going on?" Madhvi turned sharply and asked her son reproaching.
"What? I want to take my wife to the doctor! It's not against the law is it?" Shaan said grumpily.
"And HOWW did she agree to go with you?" she asked testily.
"I dunno! I used my Sundar Shaandar charm I suppose! " he said impatiently raising his hands in the air. "What does it matter mom?! I want to taaake herr" he whined like a child begging for a sweet, holding his mom's hand and moving it up and down vigorously.
"Shaan---" Madhvi shook her head. " I'm taking her for an ultrasound" she said softly, "I'm not going to Mitul's. I'm going to Geeta's."
"So?! I can take her for an ultrasound! I've had ultrasound dates with her loads of times!" Shaan said challengingly.
Madhvi laughed. "Shaan!-----" she said warningly.
"Mom please----I promise I'll be careful-----I won't let Khanak find out----I promise---plus ermm I didn't tell you something----" he said embarrassed realizing that he was such a fool busy whining with his mom and had not told her the most important bit. "----Khanak remembers that she married me-----" he said looking down, feeling a dull blush creeping on his cheeks as he said it.
"What?!" Madhvi said ecstatic. "That means she remembers everything?!! OH EMMM GEEE!!"
"No mom!" Shaan said quickly. "She only remembers she married me at Dhulwadi-----atleast I think she does----Mitul was right mom----she's slowly remembering------" he suddenly looked sad. Madhvi noticed.
"Beta----I know what you're thinking-----that will she ever remember that she loved you----- right? But you know what Shaan?----She doesn't need to remember that-----Love is not an emotion that is controlled by the mind and the memory------love is a sentiment that is felt by the heart and the soul----Khanak's love for you is not dependant on her memory coming back---"
Shaan snorted sarcastically.
"I'm serious beta----you mark my words----a time will come when you will realize that Khanak's memory was never the CI ----"
Shaan rolled his eyes. "What's CI?" he asked.
"'Core Issue' beta!" and saying this she just walked away, leaving Shaan to his confused thoughts.

Shaan impatiently waited for Khanak in the living room. He sat on the sofa, then got up, then walked to and fro for 2 minutes, touching his face all over, extremely agitated. He kept glancing at the staircase. He couldn't wait to be with her, to talk to her, their first conversation as his friend. He felt as excited and nervous as he had felt the time he had realized he had fallen in love with her. Except at that time he had taken action. This time he just had to wait and watch, he thought sadly.
"Hiya Shaan. Whatchu doing?" Natasha came in smiling at him. Shaan frowned. "Woww! Someon'e happy to see me!" she said sarcastically noticing but chuckled too. Shaan rolled his eyes, now hoping Khanak wouldn't come down the stairs. But as though Khanak had sworn to disobey him, at that exact moment she appeared at the stairway.
"Where is your fiancee when you need him?!" Shaan said to Natasha through gritted teeth, as Khanak walked down the stairs, looking simple and pretty in her pink sari.
Natasha grinned, also noticing Khanak. "He's on duty at the hospital. And I'm on duty HERE" she stressed on 'here' further irritating Shaan. Khanak finally reached the bottom of the stairs and looked confusedly at the smiling Natasha and Shaan. Shaan walked over to Khanak hurriedly. Natasha followed too, much to Shaan's displeasure.
"Err----Khanak----tum tayyar ho----Chalo chaltay hain" he picked up her files from the table and attempted to leave.
"Shaaannn-----" Natasha said in a cheery, unusually screechy girly voice. "Introduce nahi karwao gay?" she added smiling broadly. Khanak looked on politely but felt a bit weird. She immediately registered that she did not like the tone of the way this girl talked to Shaan.
Shaan glared at Natasha. "Errr----Khanak---yay Natasha hain-----Khushboo bhabhi ki bahen-----Ub Chalay?"
"Aur Shaan ki College ki dost!" Natasha added cheerfully."Puri baat toh batao Shaan!" she laughed girlishly again.
Shaan was now positively fuming with anger. He took a deep breath. "Errr haan-----hum college main saath parhtay thay----" he studied Khanak's expression and tried to decipher what she felt about this bit of information. Khanak's face was stony and her lips went thin. Shaan felt a thrill of danger. It was the exact same expression that Khanak used to give to Shaan when she was not happy with him.
"Chalo Khanak----errr dair horahee hain----" he said before things could go out of control.
"Main toh Aunty jee kay saath ja rahee thee-----" she said walking to the far end of the room where Madhvi was instructing a servant. Shaan looked at her too stunned to speak. Natasha looked accomplished. "Aunty jee ----hum dactor kay paas chalay?" she asked edgily.
Madhvi looked at her surprised, then looked at Shaan who was making no effort to hide his frustration. She bit back her laugh and held Khanak's hand, "Haan chalo Khanak-----Doctor kay paas chalo---" she said holding her hand and taking her out of the house. Khanak did not give a backward glance to Shaan.

"What the HECK did you do that for?!" Shaan stormed at Natasha as soon as Khanak and Madhvi left.
Natasha giggled. That infuriated Shaan even more. Natasha noticed and abruptly stopped grinning. "What?! I did it for you!!" she said logically.
"You just made my wife ditch me and leave!! And you're saying you did it for ME?!" Shaan said through gritted teeth again.
"Oh cmon Shaan! Don't be so silly! Don't you see?! She's jealous! She's mad at you! She can't see you with another lady! This is like the first step for her to get her memory back-----don't you see?!"
"No I don't see!" Shaan said firmly. "I just wanted to spend time with her and you ruined it for me is ALL I see!" He went over to the sofa and sat down, holding his head. Natasha went over to him and sat too.
"Listen Shaan----Mom told me that Khanak remembered that she married you----that means soon she'll know that we were about to be married too----She'll recall who I am----and errr according to Mitul we should keep to that----"
"'Keep to that'?" Shaan asked sharply.
Natasha took a deep breath. "Meaning that Khanak should think we are STILL about to be married----and that you two were separating anyway----and that we will get married after you two separate----"
"Oh so now I have to pretend I'm in LOVE with you, too?! Brilliant" Shaan said sarcastically." And what explanation do I give Khanak about the relationship I shared with her?" he asked, though he already knew the answer. Natasha said nothing.
"Khanak needs to FEEL the love for you Shaan----until her heart doesn't respond----her mind won't respond too---- you don't need to be a neurologist to figure this out----" she paused. "Shaan? I think what we just saw ----was her heart responding----that's why I was happy-----I would have been disappointed had she agreed to go with you-----wouldn't the Khanak you knew respond in the same manner if she had her memory? "
Shaan turned to look at Natasha. She was right, he thought. Had he not, too, seen Khanak's heart respond when she had failed to lose eye contact with him at the hospital, or when she had raised her finger at him in his face, or when she had smiled at him?
Shaan sighed. "Yea----okay-----fine-----you guys are mean! ----but you're right! What do I have to do apart from pretending to be in love with you?" he asked resignedly.
Natasha smiled satisfyingly. "You need to have a major fight with me after which I leave the house!!" she said excitedly rubbing her hands.
Shaan looked at her in disbelief. "WHAT?!"
"Yes yes yes! You need to recreate the night that you bonded with Khanak, when you were supposed to bond with me!!" she said almost jumping in excitement.
Shaan looked at her as though she was mad. "I can't believe you---" he said shaking his head. "You mean the night I was drunk and ----" he stopped looking embarrassed.
"YES!!" Natasha said, ignoring Shaan's discomfort.
"Why are you doing this Natasha?" Shaan asked her, shaking his head again and looking at her in amused wonder.
"BECAUSE" she stressed on the word "----I want to get married!! And Mitul will not marry me till his 'sister' remembers whose wedding she is attending!! He wants someone to BE there for him when Di decides to hide his shoesss----" she pouted. Shaan laughed and suddenly felt cheerful. Maybe recreating that magical night was not a bad idea after all.
