Khanak: Are you reconsidering?

Shaan: The pact?

Khanak: I meant the...wedding

Shaan: I meant the pact after the wedding (smiles)

Khanak: We could draw up different terms if you like.

Shaan shakes his head, but does not say anything. Very cryptic, it worries her but she lets it go!

He is parked under a dying street light on the side of the road. The yellow of her saree contrasts with the orange gold glow from the light. He walks toward the back door and gets his camera out.

Khanak: "Don't leave home with out it?" (like the Amex commercial) smiles

Shaan: I never know when a pretty woman will go out with me, so I am always prepared.

Khanak: Aap sabki pictures lete hain? (cool)

Shaan: All of em (laughing under his breath)

Khanak: There is a word for it.

He trains his camera, and clicks away, she looks at the sea and not at him, he shows up in front and shoots some more.

Shaan: Hand''

Khanak: Oh! (as he gets her hand with the ring, and the wrist with the bangles)

Khanak: I am walking towards the sea. (starts to)

Shaan: And never coming back? (mocks)

Khanak: Oh1 I will. I love this saree too much to get into the water with it (smiles)

Shaan: Phew! (mock relief)

He leans on the car and takes more pictures of her walking away. A lovely image of a nymph like thing, walking into complete darkness.

He quickly follows her suddenly.

They walk to the waters, quietly, she walks ahead, lifts up her saree to her ankles, tucks it into her waist, steps into the water. Her face breaks into a smile.

She bends down and scoops some of that frothy mixture in her hands, and lets it slip between her fingers, does that repeatedly, while he takes 10s of pictures.

Shaan: Did you study architecture in Delhi?

Khanak: Yep.

Shaan: Did you grow up in Ahmedeabad?

Khanak: Ya was born there. Lived in the same house until I went to college. Until I

Shaan is suddenly quiet, observant, he notes the half word.

She picks up a tiny burgundy shell, goes on to get a dozen more.

Shows him her collection, he smiles at her, and asks if he can take a picture, she nods, the flash flickers multiple times.

Shaan: What was your fave subject in school?

Khanak: History I think, and language.

Shaan: Wow!

Khanak: What was yours? I know, Math!

Shaan: And Physics.

Khanak: I shud have known you are so logical (mildly contemptuous)

Shaan: Oh! I can be irrational (very softly) when I want to be''

She understands the reference

Two guys walk up to them

Guy 1: Gaadi aapki hai?

Shaan is preoccupied with his convo with Khanak. "Haan"

Guy2: Mumbai?

Shaan is irritated

Shaan: Lets get out of here Khanak.

She stares at Shaan, fearful, spontaneously walks up to his side.

Shaan doesn't pick a fight, does not challenge them, does not get over protective about her, does not wrap his arm around her.

Khanak: I am hungry!

The guys are wandering close by

Shaan: Lets do a take out? Do you want to go to my place?

Khanak: Nahi, aapke ghar nahi jaana! (stops in her tracks)

Shaan:Do you have plans to live in Chembur after we tie the knot? (amused)

Friday May 13^th 10 PM Onwards.

Khanak: I don't know...!(embarrassed)

Shaan: well ... you have 16 days to make up your mind Khanak (smiles)😉

One guy walks up to her and asks "Madam time kya hua hai"

That's it!

It sends her off the edge, she attaches herself to Shaan... TIGHT!

Shaan loses his smile and responds with "Ghari nahi hai" gives the guy a dirty look.

They increase their pace, and get to the car. The guys look like they are following at first but lose interest.

He locks the doors when they are seated, the two random guys, give up and start walking away from them

Khanak: that was close! Ughh! (shuts her eyes with her hand, her heart is still racing in fear)

Shaan: He revs the engine and screeches off the dusty sidewalk on to the road, drives by the guys, they glance up to see the car, point and crack jokes.

Shaan drives off unmindful.

Khanak:Aada kehte hain raat ko kabhi beach par nahi jaana chahiye (child like)

Shaan: Tumhaare Aada bilkul theek kehte hain. There is no bloody privacy anymore.(fumes)

Khanak: I thought you were going to punch them (in horror)

Shaan: I choose my battles carefully Khanak... except in our case ofcourse (softly).

Khanak: Its not my fault we fight so much! (defensive, looks out the window)

Shaan: Not at all! (Ya right!)

He drives in silence for a while.

Shaan: If Pradeep was with us, I could have taken on the guys, he could have driven you home. I cant do it when we are alone.

Khanak: Here I was assuming you were Salman Khan at one point.

Shaan: Ha! Werent you wrong!

He dials a number on his cell phone and orders food.

Shaan: I wanted to order food for take out

Shaan: Thanks

Shaan: Yep veggie first please.

Listens and Thanks

Shaan: Hang on a sec (into the phone)

Turns to her, "Is pasta good for you?"

Khanak: Umm'.. fine! (nods)

Shaan: Into the phone, "Canneloni" is that all veggie?

Shaan: Yep, no spice please? Thanks

Shaan: Hang on a second

Shaan: Is it OK if I eat meat at your place?

He heart drums spreading color and heat all over when she realizes they would be going to her place "Ritu makes eggs!"

Shaan: (into the phone) I will take the Provencale Veggie Construct please.

Looks at the clock on the dashboard "In about 30 minutes?" into the phone

"Thanks" hangs up

Hits the radio. It plays Sirius Classics.

Khanak: do you ever listen to Hindi?

Shaan: Sometimes!

His car, his things, his choices, his thought process, his actions, they all fascinate her. Unwittingly drawn closer and closer to him.

There is a casual effortless, ease in the way he conducts himself. Very spontaneous, cheerful and outspoken, while having the capacity to be immensely passionate.

Her heart rate went soaring when he just SAID things to her, she wondered how she would handle anything beyond a kiss.

His hands had not touched her once, except in her apartment, on the divan, when he let his fingers massage her scalp. He was gentle yet punishing. His eyes took on a serious, solemn expression when he kissed her or looked at her while being intimate. Most other times they sparkled.

He breaks her trance again with a "Vie Lounge and Deck is a beautiful place at nite. We should go next week"

Khanak: Oh! Where is it?

Shaan: Juhu!

Khanak: I don't venture out much. I don't know where 90% of the places are. I get to work and get home. I am usually lost if I am in a cab and the cabbie does not know the way.

Shaan: that must be why you take the locals to stranger's homes at nite(taunting)

Khanak: I don't want to talk about it (husky, fierce)

He parks outside a beautiful, dimly lit, what looks like a restaurant with a deck and lots of outside seating. The valet asks if he could park, he tips the guy and says "Khaana pick up karna hai"

Valet: I can page it for you sir!

A guy shows up with a bag with boxes in it. He pays him cash, even though the guy walks out with a hand held credit card auth terminal, unlocks the back door, he sets the food, smiles at the tip and almost bows stands there watching Shaan pull out of the parking lot.

Drive home, past 10: 45 pm. Pai Uncle is talking with what seem like a bunch of contractors.

He parks and gets her food out, she gets her things.

Pai: Khanak beta, ek minute

Khanak: haan:

Pai tumhe maine sham ko kaha tha 407 ki Mrs Apte sabse pehle apna ghar karwaana chahiti hai

Khanak is embarrassed as she has been busted.

Pretends to ignore that remark "Kya hua?

Pai: tumhe maine sham ko kaha ki who first ready hai, abhi who keh rahi hai uske bte ke school mein koi program hai kal, so sabse pehle tumhara ghar karte hain?

Khanak: Theek, chabi kisko doon?

Pai: Ritwik ki mummy ko de dena.

Pai looks at Shaan smiles, "Tumhara mangetar hai"

Khanak: Jee Uncle!

Pai: Kya karte ho? (immediate interrogation)

Shaan: Je eek construction company mein hoon.

Pai: Salary achhi hai? (curious)

Shaan: Yep!... I mean, very good Uncle (smiles indulgently)

Pai: Kya hai na, jab Khanak job chode ka mann hai to chhodegi na. Meri wife ne bus 6 mahina kiya, suke baad full free (declares proudly)

Khanak: Uncle main abhi chabi de deti hoon (cutting him short)

Pai to shaan: Gadi to achhi hai. Loan par hai kya?

Khanak is horrified.

Shaan: Nahi Uncle.

Pai slowly realizes he is asking the wrong questions.

Khanak: Main agle hafte card dene aaoongi.

Pai: Jaroor, main aur Mrs pakka.Shaadi kidhar hai

Khanak: ahemedebad.

Pai is shocked. "Sasural? Gujarati ladka hai kya?"

Khanak: Nahi... Sasural Malabar Hill mein hai.

Pai doesn't say a word, just stares at Shaan, he grabs her laptop back so she can get to her keys

The couple start walking away as Mr Pai gapes.

She hits the lights, he sets the food on the coffe table.

Khanak: Aap shoes utariye!

Shaan smiles "Yep! Sorry"

She washes her hands, shows him the rest room, he does too

They open the food, serve and eat.

He tries some of hers, she doesn't.

They don't talk about a thing, except "Aapko paani" "Do you have a fork?"

When they are done, she walks over to her fave spot by the window and gazes out, with a faraway look

He walks up to her, she turns around.

They are very close.

Shaan: You came home to dress up for the evening? (grins)

Khanak: Don't worry about it since you hardly noticed (aloof, yet hurt)😭

Shaan: Ofcourse I did!

Khanak: All you said was "Do you love wearing sarees" (sulking)😭

He laughs and closes the gap. One hand on the trim of the mirror, and the other holding a window grill.

Khanak: I will wear sarees every evening after the wedding, too bad you cant see me coz I will be in Chembur (challenge)😉

Shaan: That's fine as long as you get home to my bed each nite! (careless)😳😳😳
