They had been ready to be parents. The good news had arrived their way. However a few recent tests had them worried. Khanak had woken up with pain the other night and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Shantanu released a breath he didn't realize he was holding as he thought about the past month.

Khanak had found out she was pregnant and then blushed as she got off the phone with the doctor.

He had eyed her with suspicion. Why was she blushing? He had not said anything mushy and romantic to her yet. Nor had anyone else just teased her today about anything embarrassing.

"Khanak kya hua? You are blushing so much. I didn't even get started," he joked.

She came closer to him.

His smile brightened thinking she was going to make the first move this time. He felt her warm breath on his neck and she started to whisper in his ear.

" Doctor just confirmed that I am pregnant," she said with glee.

He gazed at her stunned. He jolted to standing position.

"Kya hua Shantanu? Aap iss baat se khush nahin ho?," she inquired feeling down.

He pulled her to stand in front of him and put his arms around her waist.

" I am so happy Khanak. I cannot wait to see your stomach expanding with the growth of our child. Your face will be even more glowing. You will look even more beautiful," he whispered into her ear.

She blushed bright red before hiding her face in his broad chest.

The doctor came with the reports.

"Khanak is RH-. Your baby is RH positive. When this happens the mother's blood senses the baby's blood as foreign to hers it forms antibodies. This can harm the unborn child," the doctor said.

Khanak tried not to cry and Shantanu was dumbfounded for a moment.

" Doctor I love this child already. Why would my blood cause harm to my baby?,"Khanak inquired.

The doctor gave her an assuring look.

"Dekho Khanak it is not about loving your child or not. Your body without your consciousness is doing this. There is treatment but you have to understand it's not a cure," the doctor explained.

Shantanu snapped out of his solemn state.

"What is the treatment? I want Khanak and the baby to be safe," he insisted.

" We will start her on this medication called Rhogam. It will help prevent her antibodies fight against the baby's blood. However she will need a c-section and be monitored throughout this pregnancy and any others she has after this," the doctor stated.

"So there is a chance my baby can be born healthy?," Khanak inquired .

"Yes Khanak there is. However you need to be very diligent with your appointments and your care. I understand you have other family members you live with, make sure everyone is aware of this and that you do not take too much stress,"

" Doctor our family and myself will see to it that Khanak does what you are recommending. When can Khanak get the medication?," he inquired.

" We can give today itself. You'll have to sign some paperwork," the doctor stated.

The couple walked lost. There were just a few inches between them but it seemed like both were lost in their own worlds.

Shantanu stopped short and grabbed her hand, pulling her close.

"Khanak I am scared too but I want you to know that I love you and will always be by your side," Shantanu declared.

She grew teary eyed and simply embraced him with all her might.

When she pulled back she looked into his eyes.

"Shantanu I promise I'll keep fighting for us and our baby," she said as she placed her hand on her abdomen.
