TUM PUKAAR LO

Here I am again with a Shanak SS on a track that disappointed me to no end, Shaan's redemption for the way he treated Khanak on the MMS issue. This is a short story as the title SS suggests.

This one begins the morning after Shaan in a delirious state has remembered Khanak, realized his folly and has banished his friends from his life. Khanak has left for Dhulwaadi of course.

And yes, the Title heavily influenced from Gulzar's tum pukaar lo sung by Hemant Kumar from the movie Khamoshee.

Part I

The night was spent sleepless and wantful. His heart searched for his wife, knew she was not around and shall not be for some time. He wants her to hold him and tell him its alright, she has forgiven him just like she does everytime.,.,.but that is not to happen, not yet he thinks or forever yet, he fears,.,.

He wakes up yet again and walked around the empty corridors from the bedroom to the pathshaala,.,. there he could see her waiting for her lesson.,.

Khanak: Aap aa gaye.,,.. bahut der kardi aapne aaj,., bahut kaam tha kya?

Shaan: Kaam tho tha,., lekin tumhare liye sab chod chad ke aagaya,.

Khanak: (with a small smile): Acha,. Waise main aap se kehdoon,. Yeh iskool hai aur abhi hamare lesson ka time hai,. Aapki shararat ka nahin.,

Shaan: (Walks towards her): Kya yaar Khanak..

Khanak (holding the ruler): Uh Uh,, kaha na,, iskool mei shararat bilkul nahin

Shaan (pulls the ruler from her and holds her chin up with it and naughtiness in his voice): Really now? Main tumse kehdoon, iskool nahin skool aur main tumhara teacher hoon aur jo main kahunga tum wohee karogee,,samjhi??

Khanak: (with a big grin): OK, masterjee

Shaan: (dropping the ruler and grabbing her): Masterjee?? Acha?? Abhi seekhata hoon'

Khanak's laughter rings in the room, Shaan out of his reverie picks up the ruler, holds it to his forehead and cannot stop the tears from flowing,. 'Khanak" he calls out before flinging the ruler across the paathshaala and falls himself on the floor calling out for her''khanak', 'khanak''..

Sunil finds his son curled up in the paathshaala room, on the floor sleeping,., calls out to Akshay and they both pick him up and put him back on his bed. Madhavi enters the room and she and Sunil exchange concerned looks.

Akki: Dad, Yeh kya ho raha hai, Shaan apne aap ko sambhal nahi paa raha hai..

Mad: Mujhe bhi kuch samajh mein nahin aa raha, kare bhi tho kya? Sunil, kya hum Dhulwaadi jaake Khanak ko wapis laa sakte hain.

Sunil: Nahin, yeh miya biwi ka mamlaa hai, Shaan ko apni yeh ladaai khud ladne do. He needs to really grow up.

Akki: But dad'

Sunil: No, Akshay, is baar jo galtee isne ki hai, uski sazaa usse bhugatne do, jo usne Khanak se saath kiya hai, who maafi ke layak bilkul nahin hai

Mad: Akshay, main tumhare dad se sehmat hoon, maafi ke layak hai na nahi Khanak ko decide karne do..

Shaan has not gone into the studio today,.,by the time he wakes up., the house is silent.,he realizes everyone has left for the day.,it is noon after all. His feet automatically take him to the paathshaala again.,. Why does it look like a hurricane hit it? He starts putting things back. He picks up the ruler., stares at it., he can hear Khanak's voice saying.."mujhe nahin padhni angrezi,, aap padho gujraati"'he stares at the ruler and suddenly a slow smile appears on his face.

Khanak has spent yet another day cleaning, cooking and meeting old friends in Dhulwaadi. She returns to her parents place after meeting her friend who has just given birth, only to find the postman in front of the house waiting for her. She smiles at him while he hands over an envelope to her.

Khanak: Chacha aap? Kya baat hai?

Daak Chacha: Tumhare liye pakeet hai bambay se

Khanak: Mere liye?

Khanak takes it and enters the house. Her hands shake a little while opening, and she finds in the envelope a 12 inch long wooden ruler, confused, she looks into the packet again,, and then turns the ruler back and front, and makes out small lettering in hindi on the plain side,, it says.,,

Hu taane prem karoo chu,,

Ghar aavee jao Khanak..Plij..

Tears flow down her eyes, her lips quiver, she mutters, "burdhtal",,, and then suddenly she is angry,, and flings the ruler across the modest room in her house,, backs herself to a wall,, and slides down on the floor,., covering her face., crying and muttering., "samajhte kya hai apne aap ko"'.

Honth pe liye hue dil ki baat hum

Jaagte rahenge aur kitni raat hum

Haiiiii....Main Waari Jau.....Kya lines use kiya hai yaar....*sigh* M loving it.....sending across that ruler was such a "stroke of masterpiece" scene !! Kaash aisa kuch hua hota.....!!!

This makes me a bit shayaraana...
