Khanak approached him……He was still in his thoughts, unable to take his eyes off her.
Khanak: Shaan? Shaan…?
Shaan: hmm …?(coming back to reality)
Khanak: uh…chale?
Shaan: ya…lets go…
Shaan opened the door and held it for her to enter…while she was entering, she accidentally placed her hand on his. Shaan felt a weird sensation at her touch and quickly looked up to see if she felt the same. Their eyes met for a brief second…but it seemed longer for both of them… Shaan could not make out what she was thinking…what she was feeling…she looked down… withdrew her hand, uttered a "sorry" and got in the car. Shaan closed the door behind her and they drove off.
On their way both of them spoke nothing…Shaan however could not help stealing glances at Khanak. "She looks beautiful today" he thought.
They stopped at a signal when Shaan turned to look at her again.
She was looking out from the window, smiling ,waving at a child on a bike……his mother was holding him as the child waved back at Khanak…her smile widened and she blew him a kiss…the child reciprocated…and Khanak became happier…she almost chuckled this time……Shaan who was a mere spectator uptil now…waved at the child as well, as the child almost danced out with joy this time…Khanak turned to look at Shaan…who was still waving at the child…Shaan noticed Khanak looking at him and looked back at her…their eyes met again…
But this time it was different…Shaan for the first time saw appreciation in them…appreciation for him…Shaan liked the way she looked at him…he was happy that she wasn't angry at him anymore…
"she forgives people easily" he thought. Khanak smiled and so did Shaan. The signal showed green and they drove off again.

Shaan and Khanak reached the restaurant. Khanak looked around at the place…It was an open ground…almost crowded…there was soft music being played…the surrounding was very beautiful.
Shantanu told the waiter that he has already reserved a table. After a few minutes the Manager arrived.
Manager: sorry Sir , there isn't any reservation in the name of Mr.Shantanu Khandelwal.
Shaan: what? Well..can U \check if it's in Akshay Khandelwal's name..,he's my brother.
Manager: Sure Sir.
The Manager returned back after checking.
Manager: No Sir, there isn't any reservation made by Akshay Khandelwal.
Shaan: (shrugged his shoulders)..Just a minute…(he took out his phone and made a call…)
(on the phone)…lekin bhai …maine aapse kaha than a ki reservation kar lijiye………bhool gaye ka kya matlab hain……………main uss ghar main nahi rahta iska ye matlab nahi ki aap mujhe bhool hi jaye…………anyways abhi main rakhta hoon…apse baad main baat kar loonga.
Shaan: (to the manager) Is there any table available…?
Manager: U will have to wait Sir (as he said this …he pointed at the waiting queue…it had atleast 15 people waiting)
Shaan: aree yaar(placed his index finger and thumb on his forehead)…….Its ok. Thank u!
As he said this he signaled Khanak to leave…
Shaan: I m sorry Khanak…woh..maine bhai se kaha tha ki table book kare aur woh bhool gaye..
Khanak: (smiling) Its ok. Shaan…
Shaan: (Shaan was impressed with her understanding nature…how she just smiled off the situation)don't worry ..hum kahi aur chate hain..
Khanak: alright.

They got back into the car as they headed for another restaurant…There was a little traffic…which irritated Shaan again and again…while Khanak just laughed looking at his expressions…
Shaan: What..? why are u laughing?
Khanak: nothing..
Shaan: Nothing? C'mon…tell me…U laughed looking at me.
Khanak: Its just U r so eager to reach , your face looks….(she started to laugh again)
Shaan: looks what?
Khanak: U know…
Shaan: no, I don't know…
Khanak: Ur….face looks as if u wanna urgently….uh….…(she said after pausing a bit) attend nature's call...(and she bursted out laughing)
Shaan was a little angry at her at first…but then when he saw her laughing…his anger vanished and unknowingly a smile crept on his lips…he had to agree she had the most infectious smile ever…a smile that can make anyone forget their sorrows and smile…He was staring at her…when she noticed it.
Khanak: (lowering her eyes) Kya dekh rahe ho?
Shaan: Tumhe…
Khanak: kya?
Shaan: I mean ..uh…(after a little bit of hesitation Shaan said) Khanak…U look beautiful when u smile..
Khanak: (she took a little time before she answered) Thanks.
Shaan: U r most welcome Madam.
And they both laughed.
They checked out a couple of more restaurants and they were all full…Shaan couldn't believe his rotten luck..
Shaan: (disappointed) Yaar ..itna bada sheher hain…par do logon ke khaane ke liye bhi jagah nahi hain yahaan…(as he was saying this he noticed a Pav-?Bhaji stall near-by) Inn bade bade restaurants se ache toh ye thele hain…kam se kam khaana toh milta hain yaha..
Khanak: (looking at the stall) waise Shaan…hum pav-bhaji khaye?
Shaan: yahan yu sadak par…?
Khanak: haan..kyu?
Shaan: Khanak tum ye unhygienic food khaogi…?
Khanak: (looking at him surprised) Shaan, tum itne saalon se Mumbai main reh rahe hon…ye mat kehna ki tumne aaj tak kabhi sadak ki pav-bhaji nahi khayi..
Shaan: mat kehna ka kya matlab hain?….maine sach main kabhi sadak ka khaana nahi khaaya….I mean..its..its..ewww..(he made a face)
Khanak: ewww? c'mon Shaan, ekhad baar bahar ka khaane se kuch nahi hota ….aur waise bhi itna bhi ewww nahi hain ye…mujhe toh thela kaafi saaf sudhara lag raha hain…
Shaan: really(he said staring at the stall)…ok..uh…Khanak(he turned to face her) waise..ye sab khaane ke baad agar mujhe kuch ho gaya…toh kya tum please sabse kahogi…ki hum date par aye the…aur tum meri girlfriend ho….woh actually I don't want to die being single.
Khanak: (looking at him surprised) alright………….deal(she said smiling)

They both walked towards the stall … Shaan ordered 2 pav-bhaji's……and they both sat on the bench, facing eachother. As soon as the pav-bhaji arrived ,Khanak quickly began to eat it…looking at her Shaan could make out she was hungry……he smiled inwardly as Khanak was almost gulping down her food…
Khanak looked at Shaan who had still not started to eat.
Khanak: Shaan, tum bhi kha sakte hon…ye(pointing at her plate) itni bhi buri nahi hain…
Shaan: Sure! (he said as he took in the first morsel)..surprisingly he liked it…hmm…(he said with his mouth full)…its good…its really good…
Khanak: kaha tha na maine…its not that ewww…..
Shaan quickly finished his plate and ordered for another…
Khanak: Not bad huh! Ek aur..
Shaan: Khanak, tum bhi khao na aur..
Khanak: nahi baba mera pet toh bhar gaya…
Shaan: really? pet bhar gaya ya phir jaan bhujke ke kam kha rahi hon?
Khanak: What do u mean Shaan?
Shaan: Khanak , thodi si moti ho jaogi toh ladke tumhe dekhna band nahi kar denge..(he said trying to imitate her mother)
Khanak: Shaan! (she said as she playfully hit him on his arm)
Shaan: Ouch! That hurt yaar…(rubbing his arm)
Khanak: Itni jor se bhi nahi maara…
Shaan: Jis par beetti hain usse hi pata dard kya hota hain Khanak…
Khanak's expressions changed instantly……she was lost in her thoughts……she remembered someone……someone who was very close yet far……
Shaan: (waving his hand in front of her) Hello! Kya soch rahi hon?….yaar tum sochti bahut hoon..
Khanak: (coming out of her thoughts) kuch nahi…
Shaan: Kuch nahi toh phir mere saath tum bhi ek aur plate pav-bhaji khaogi..
Khanak: lekin…
Shaan: lekin wekin kuch nahi…(and he put a little morsel in her mouth) ab chup chap khao…
Khanak stopped protesting and they both enjoyed their roadside dinner……
They finished eating, Shaan paid and they left……
Khanak: Chalo ab ghar chalte hain…
Shaan: Itni jaldi….?
Khanak: haan who mamma intezaar kar rahi hongi…
Shaan: Khanak, aunty ne mujhse kaha hain ki tumhe 9.30 se pehle ghar pahucha do…aur abhi toh sirf (looking at his watch) 8.40 hue hain Khanak…aur waise bhi ye meri taraf se tumhare liye party hain….aur main party main tumhe sirf pav-bhaji toh nahi khila sakta….
(he started to look around) woh dekho…wahah ice-cream hain…chalo..(and he took Khanak's hand and dragged her there)
Shaan: mere liye…chocolate…aur..madam ke liye…uh..vanilla.
Khanak was surprised.....he had guessed it right…vanilla was her favorite…
Shaan: Khanak, chalo mere saath…
Khanak: kaha?
Shaan: tum chalo toh…main ek bahut achi jagah jaanta hoon….yahan paas main hi hain….c'mon U trust me na..?
Khanak: (she was a bit hesitant at first to answer but later she did) I do.
Shaan looked into her eyes…He saw trust…"she is very innocent…very simple…she trusted people easily…she forgave people easily… she was different, different from all the girls he had met till date…Khanak was real, she was herself, never faked things, she was pure" he thought…but was scared at the same time that someone might easily be able to hurt her, use her……as he thought this…this hands unknowingly formed a fist…
Khanak: Shaan? (Shaan came out of his thoughts) hum kahi jaa rahe hain na?
Shaan: haan…chalo..

Shaan took Khanak towards the shore…there was no one there…other than the two of them…The place was beautiful…she thought…it was silent…there was no noise other than that of the waves and their breathing…She walked into the water as the cold water touched her feet..she felt relaxed…
Khanak: (as she was having her ice-cream) waise tumhe kaise pata ki vanilla mera favorite hain?
Shaan: well…I can read minds U know..
Khanak: really?
Shaan: yes.
Khanak: agar aisi baat hain toh batao main abhi kya soch rahi hoon?
Shaan: tum soch rahi hon ke....itni raat main..(he moved closer) itni thand main(he moved even closer, she got nervous)samundar ke kinaare(more close this time, she tried speaking but Shaan's gaze made her mouth dry)hum dono akele (he was really close now…she could almost feel his breath on her face) ice-cream kha rahe hain..kahi sardi lag gayi tho…..(as he said this he bursted out laughing while Khanak gave him a I don't believe you look)
Shaan kept on laughing and for the first time …Khanak noticed Shaan carefully…The Shaan whom she had met just two days before…but still felt comfortable with …today after a long time she had laughed whole heartedly…she behaved as herself…without helding any reservations…she felt good around Shaan…
"he is sweet" she thought.
She looked at him…He was wearing a blue jeans and a white shirt… "he is obsessed with this combination" she thought as she had seen him in a similar attire a day before as well…he had tiny yet very expressive eyes and a very thin line of lips…a couple of strands of his hair were falling on his forehead and waving as he laughed. He had a well built body…she noticed…
Shaan turned around only to find Khanak staring at him intensely…
Shaan: Kya dekh rahi ho…? (raising his eyebrows)
Khanak: kuch nahi (blushing a little)
Shaan saw her reaction and smiled inwardly.
Khanak: waise Shaan ….is jagah koi bhi kyu nahi hain…itni khubsoorat jagah hain ye phir bhi…?
Shaan: well ..rumours ki wajah se..
Khanak: what rumours..?
Shaan: uh..actually people say this place is haunted…
Khanak: (with terrified expressions) what?
Shaan: raat ko aksar yahah koi nahi ata…kehte hain…raat main yahah koi atma watma bhatakti hain…U know superstitions and all…
Khanak: (still terrified) tum pagal ho gaye ho..mujhe aisi jagah laaye ho…jaha bh..bhoot hain..
Shaan: c'mon Khanak…don't tell me tum inn sab cheejon main believe karti hon…
Khanak: Shaan…please chalo yahah se…mujhe yaha nahi rahna…(and she started to leave)
Shaan followed her , held her by her shoulders and turned her around to face him..
Shaan: Khanak, main sirf mazaak kar raha tha…..bhoot woot kuch bhi nahi hain yahan par…..aur agar hote toh main iss jagah bhool kar bhi nahi ata…main khud hi ladkiyon ki tarah bhooton se darta hoon…
Khanak: (looking up at him) tum sach main mazaak kar rahe the..?
Shaan: haan baba..
Khanak: toh phir yahah koi kyu nahi hain..
Shaan: itni raat ko beach par kon ata hain Khanak..?...siwaai hum dono ke ofcourse..
Khanak: matlab yahan koi bhoot nahi hain?
Shaan: bilkul nahi..
She felt assurance in his voice and relaxed…
Khanak: toh tum mere saath mazak kar rahe the..?
Shaan: hmm..yes….pagalpanti bhi jaroori hain..(huskily)
Khanak: really? (as she said this she started splashing water on Shaan's face)
Shaan: (rubbing his eyes) Khanak…?
Khanak: kyu mazaak sirf tumhe karma ata hain..?
She again splashed water on his body and ran away……
Shaan: Khanak..main tumhe chodunga nahi….
Khanak: pehle pakadke toh dikhao…(she laughed)
Shaan: achaa…….Shantanu Khandelwal ko challenge…abhi dikhata hoon…(and he started to run behind her)
He ran hard but Khanak was still out of his reach…"She is a fast runner" he thought…whenever he came closer he splashed water on her…but was never able to get hold of her…
Khanak kept on running without looking behind…when she suddenly stopped as she realized Shaan was no more behind her…She turned around to find an empty shore…he was nowhere…"Shaan" she screamed out off her lungs…"Shaan" she screamed again…he was nowhere…
Suddenly she felt a hand on her shoulder and she twitched …she turned around to see a smiling Shaan…she was still scared and almost as a reflex hugged him tightly……
Shaan was initially taken aback with this action of hers…but later realized she was scared and protectively folded his arms around her…she was breathing heavily…he tried consoling her by rubbing his hands on her shoulders…she was still scared…he tightened his grip around her and so did she……
They stood there in eachothers arms for more than a minute…
Shaan finally broke the hug and looked down at her…he was still holding her by her waist…
Khanak looked back at him…his consoling eyes…her fear vanished…she relaxed…she felt good…she felt secure…
Shaan noticed, somewhere while running she had dropped her specks…He was seeing her first time without them…
"you are beautiful Khanak" he said still looking into her eyes…
"your eyes are beautiful…and…." He lowered his gaze towards her lips…"and" he repeated as if finding words…his grip on her waist tightened as he pulled her face closer to his…he lowered his head a little…bringing his lips closer to her…
Khanak could feel his breath mingling with hers…her heart beat increased…
In anticipation she slowly closed her eyes.
