You do realise Kapoor that you are IMing me from the next door, twenty steps away to be precise... why don't you come over, we will have some beer, that way, I can see your pretty face, while I answer your questions.

No, I am not, I love white, that's why I was so taken by what you wore for the New year party. I have to say you look particularly beautiful in my favourite colour.

Re: the ball
Good, will talk later, I have a lot of work to do, so I need to relax for now... Go back to work.
Ps. You Dog! ;P
Shantanu laughed as he read the post script sent by Khanak.
It had been three days since his return from London, and it was good to be back in the comforts of his home. He really didn't realise how much he had missed the pale white walls, and the blue curtains of his own room, until he had stepped inside his bedroom again... and now that he was back he was also happy to note that Khanak did not talk much about Aditya Singhania. He of course, wasn't the kind to go berserk, just because the object of his crush was into someone else... he was mature and he had taken his father's advice. Kiara had proved to be an excellent distraction.
He had liked her, she was confident, independent and she knew exactly what she wanted. He liked the fierceness she showed, and spending time with her was easy enough. Especially with all the work they had, plus she was a terribly good flirt. Their conversations were never dull, they talked about the stock markets, and projects, bitched a little about business men/women they had both happen to know, and the aggressive flirting on her end, ensured that things were always interesting.
But nothing had really happened between them, oddly enough, though he had flirted back with her on numerous occasions, he had never felt like holding her or kissing her, he was shocked with himself really. And he could tell she used to wonder the same, every time he dropped her off to her place, he could read the question- "why don't you kiss me?!" -in her expression, every time. But then again, no hook ups with colleagues/business partners had always been his rule...
'Yup, the water is definitely still warm!' he whispered to himself as he kept his phone on his table, and stretched his back before going back to work.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Khanak stretched her neck, as she waited for the elevator, though the warm bath was relaxing, but it seemed to have caused a slight pain in her neck.
'Hello Khanak.'
She was startled by Aditya, 'Oh! Hi...'
Aditya smiled, 'sorry to have scared you...'
'It's fine.'
An awkward silence fell between them, interrupted only by the ting of the elevators as the doors opened. They both stepped inside, and Aditya pressed the button for their floor.
Khanak looked at him, she was amazed that he didn't say anything, she wasn't used to Aditya being silent.
'You unwell?'
'No why?'
'You aren't talking.'
'Yes well... I am thinking.'
'About?'
'You.'
Khanak smiled, 'me?! well if that is the case then I have a suggestion.'
'What?'
'Just talk to me instead.'
Aditya smiled, 'well then, I'll talk, and the first thing I want to ask is, why did you run away, when we were a second away from kissing...' He turned to Khanak as he finished his sentence. The buried his hands in his pockets waiting for an answer.
'Oh! That...'
'Yes that...'
'So that is why you didn't call all weekend?'
'Khanak why?'
'well... Shantanu came back from London, and I heard his voice.'
'So? Meeting him couldn't wait for a minute?'
'No it couldn't! I mean- he is back after so so long and, we hadn't talked in ages... I am sorry.'
'why do you always run after him, leaving me stranded?!'
'That happened only once...'
Aditya interrupted her, ' in Goa...'
'twice...'
'and the time I left you at your place, when he was going to London, you left without saying a proper good bye.'
'thrice then!' Khanak smiled, 'I know, I am sorry, it's just, Shaan is terribly important.'
'more than me?'
'well you haven't really done anything to make you more than him have you now?' she asked playfully.
'Ah! I see, so what do you have in mind?'
'oh... that is for me to know, and you to guess... let's see do you know what I want, or not?'
'Is that a challenge?'
The elevator doors opened to their floor, Khanak walked out, while still looking at Aditya, 'No, just a fun little compatibility test perhaps...' she winked at him before turning to her assistant, who as usual was waiting for her with a hot cup of coffee.
Aditya smiled as he watched her go with Meher, 'hey Aditya what is up with you?' asked, Aditi, a fellow writer in the magazine. Aditya just smiled as whispered, 'I think I might be falling in love...'
'what?! Come again, didn't get you.'
He looked at Aditi and flashed a smile at her, making her heart flutter, 'Nothing Aditi, what up with you?'
:::::::::::::::::::::::::
'love is what is up with me Shantanu!'
'No my brother you have gone mental that is what is up with you!'
'Shantanu tu nahi samjhega!'
'Rohan Mujhe samjhna bhi nahi hai! Main yahan London kya gaya, you went away to Mumbai! Dad ko yahan ka kaam sambhalna pada, as Akshay bro was out to! How can you be so irresponsible!'
'I am sorry Shantanu, but I was doing my work from Mumbai, didn't have any meetings, only project and presentations so...'
'So what! Rohan, I have made it clear that Dad ko minimal kaam karne dena hai! Then How could you...'
'Shantanu calm down.'
'No I won't!'
'Shantanu it was important...'
Shantanu took a deep breath, and calmed himself, 'yes, I know, but, terko pata hai, dad...'
'I know, aur terko kya lagta hai, ke main tere dad ko kaam ke boj talle chodh doonga? I had it all figured out, me and Akshay bro were doing work from outside the office, and Mahesh had responsibility of handing client meetings, don't worry uncle didn't have a lot work in his hands...'
'hmm... thanks and sorry.'
'sorry bolne ki zaroorat nahi hai, I know you, bhai jaise hai tu mera! Yaad hai na?!'
'haan, anyway, tum logon ka patch up ho gaya?'
'Yup, we will be back the day after tomorrow, sham ko, around eight... and I am moving in with her!'
'that';s great!'
'I know! Just got of the phone with dad, he said he is happy with the decision and even mom didn't mind, they really do love Tashu a lot.'
Shantanu smiled, 'fine, anyway, have to go now...'
'meeting?'
'nahi shopping.'
'KYA?!'
'shopping, have to buy a new tux, for a ball Khanak and are going to...'
'Tu theek toh hai na?'
'kyun?!'
'You do realise, that in your previous sentence there were many things very much out of character for you. For example, shopping, ball etc.'
'haha, very funny, ab main phone rakh raha hoon, meet you when you come.'
'bye.'
Shantanu called his assistant in and asked her, to keep him free till three as he was going shopping.
Meher just looked at him like he had sad the most un-believable thing in the world, then closed her mouth before Shantanu could notice it hanging open, and made her way out to her desk.

Re: flowers
I was taking a nice nap, with Coco cuddled next to me when someone rang my bell, asking me whether I know where you are. The delivery man then said the most intriguing thing- 'I have flowers for Ms. Kapoor.' I being a good friend took the flowers with the promise of giving them to you, but I do have a question Kapoor- Why is someone sending you flowers, with a card saying, "is this a good start?" ? Am I missing something?
Your very confused friend.

Re: flowers
Khandelwal! You read my card! You violated my privacy, and I am very upset with you...

Re: flowers
Really?! You are talking about privacy? When you read my personal e-mails!

Re: flowers
You do have a point. Anyway my dear confused friend, they must be from Aditya, he is trying to make an impression.

Re: flowers
With pink roses?! I thought you like white lilies, and thought roses were the most clichd thing a guy could ever give a woman.
Ps. You still haven't explained, what start?
To: Shaan Khandelwal <Khandelwal.rockstar@kgrps.com>
Fr: Khanak Kapoor <Khanak_k@trends.com>
Re: flowers
I do love lilies and still think the same about roses, but everyone doesn't know me as well as you, do they now?
And "start" means, his first attempt at trying to impress me...
Ps. I have finally got the dress! It's beautiful! I am so excited about the ball, can't believe it is just a day from now!
To: Khanak Kapoor <Khanak_k@trends.com>
Fr: Shaan Khandelwal <Khandelwal.rockstar@kgrps.com>
Re: flowers
Yes that is true, the lad has a lot to learn. And good that you found 'the dress', I am happy for you...
Now I am going back to sleep, I am too tired, I think I still have a little jet lag...
Your sleepy friend.
Shaan pressed send, and then looked back at the roses, he did not like this. Coco wagged her tail and jumped on him asking for water, he looked down at her, then picked her up, 'Coco, I don't like this! I do not like this one bit. Someone trying to woo my Khanak...' he stopped speaking and went back to his sentence, 'my Khanak?!' he looked at the dog, 'I think it's time for scotch coco.'
