This is for people who watched 6th March episode:
Why did Maharaj Janak have to clean Ramji's feet? Is it cuz Ramji is Maharaj Janak's son-in-law?

Thats not fair! I disagree with this tradition. I mean Maharaj Janak is the one who is giving his daughter to ramji + Maharaj Janak is like Ramji's father too. So, should not it be the other way around?- Meaning: shouldn't Ramji have to clean Maharaj Janak's feet?

I am not sure if I am right, but even in the Old Ramayan, they showed this. In my view, the theory is that the son-in-law is the husband-to-be of the daughter and therefore, the rather EXTREME care-taking.

In india like daughter-in-law is conidered as laxmi ka roop, son-in-law is also given utter importance in his sasural. Washing feet is a gesture of respect and not slavery or anything else.In hindu tradition couple getting married are considered as laxmi-narayan swarup, that is why daughter-in-law has to enter her in-law house with heet feet dipped in kumkum coz her footprints are considered as laxmiji's footprints.and son-in-laws feet are washed as he is considered as narayan roop

ANd its only once ina whiel
when the fatehr in law first enters the daughetrs sasural, he does not have food made of rice unless a ehir is born
but his first oficial visit is also marked with equal respcet and the role between the SOn -in -laaw and fatehr in law reverses then
also its normally only the eldest son in law who gets this priviledge, otehrs do not receive this priviledge

i think it's a tradition among HINDU'S washing the feet of son-in law ,it's a tradition only during marriage ceremony otherwise son-in laws touch the feet of their father-in laws & give the same respect like their father !!! there is nothing wrong i guess as when RAMJI had no probs (who was such a well mannered & very great human being & used to respect his elders ) ,RAMJI might have also thought tht it wud be a tradition only during marriage .
