TRANSLATION

If in this life a man of the higher classes [brahman?a, ks?atriya and vaisya] is very fond of taking his pet dogs, mules or asses into the forest to hunt and kill animals unnecessarily, he is placed after death into the hell known as Pran?arodha. There the assistants of Yamaraja make him their targets and pierce him with arrows.

There are many other references, but I thought the description of hell would be easier to describe.

If one is meant to eat meat, why would they go to hell for killing animals for food?

since i am a staunch vegetarian SO I WUD SAY tht only vegetarians shud be allowed to play the characters of RAMAYAN !!

my family is a staunch vegetarian family& as it is also said in all the GREAT hindu epics tht meat eating is a crime !! so it's better if vegetarian actors cud do the role in a mythological show but i know tht in the old RAMAYAN many muslim actors played the role like the role of angad was played by a muslim !!!

but it's good if one doesn't eat meat !!!

vegetarinism shud always be promoted !!

wow!! man!! wow!! what a great discussion going on ,i am really happy to see this discussion. 😛

as far as the matter of kshatriaya's eating meat is concerned then i must say tht the rajput ppl like pritvi raj chauhan ,maharana pratap they all never used to eat meat ,as i raed the life history of maharana pratap tht he used to eat the grass roti's when he was hiding in the jungles from akbar ,in show prithvi raj chauhan it's shown he was a vegetarian ,who say's tht vegetarian ppl don't have strenth ??? even swami ramdev said in his pravachan at yog shivir tht RAMA ,KRISHNA said tht meat eating is a crime !!! & vegetarian ppl do have the same strenth like the non-veggies !! & we all shud follow the path of lord RAMA & KRISHNA !! even when RAMAYAN PAATH is done in temples & when it was done at my house ) the pandit ji always says tht in RAMAYAN & BHAGVAT GEETA it is said tht one shud never eat meat !! 😛

i myself is a staunch vegetarian .so i def. love the idea of vegetarian actors doing the roles of RAMA,SITA &HANUMANA !! 😛

Yeah, characters like Angad could be meat eaters and stuff, but I think it's important if the ACTUAL gods i.e. Ram, Sita and Hanuman and any others with a predominant role should be vegetarian.

there are lots of hindus who eat non veg too.there are many talented actors who are non vegs so should they not be allowed to play roles of lord Rama,Krishna etc just because of this reason?its someone's personal choice to decide what to eat.we should respect that.as long as we are good humans and are god fearing its fine.for example
Swami Vivekananda was non vegetarian.even plants have life not just animals so when we pluck them off they might not produce blood but still they loose their life.

previously we had another Ramayan on doordarshan by Sagars.the actor Arun Govil who played lord Ram is a non vegetarian http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/mp/2006/04/27/stories/200 6042701050400.htm still he was very much accepted in the role of Ram by people and he did a great job.so if he was removed from the show just because he is a non vegetarian the show wouldn't have seen the same success.so it doesnt matter whether the actor is vegetarian or not as long as he acts well.

in both they are talking about cruelty by cooking animals alive and killing animals unnecessarily. They say nothing about that it is forbidden to eat meat! They say that people should not be cruel and greedy towards animals. That is the message. Not that people should not eat meat..

There is no such saying in the Gita. In the Mahabharat there is a thing about the Pandavas and the Kauravas eating the meat of a deer.. In those times it was common to eat meat. I understand that it is difficult to believe, but being a vegetarian is not obligatory. And it was not common in that time.

Well, obviously the animal will be alive when they're killed to be cooked, when the animal is killed it's part of the cooking process, and killing animals for food is unneccessary if you have access to fruit and vegetables...

That is not what it says. It sayss that you should not cook animals alive and not kill animals unnecesserily if you have enough and out of cruelty. You are making more of it then it says. I dont know how to explain.. I dont want to offend you 😕 But there is nothing in it what says that we should not eat meat.

Mkerai ... these verses are NOT from the Gita. They sound like they're from a Purana
