Written update Jan 21 '08: first episode
The narrator tells a few things about the balance between good and evil and that whenever evil increases on earth GOD will take a form to restore the balance and protect mankind. Just like the time that earth was suffering because of the presence of Ravan. It was then that Lord Vishnu took the decision to take a form and descend on earth. At that time in Ayodhya there was a king who still honored his ancestors old traditions, the heir of the Surya Vansh; King Dasarath.
King Dasarath was returning from a battle he has won. Everyone in the city is awaiting him and we are introduced to the tree queens; Kausalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi. The king and his army reach the city and he sees his soldiers running towards their families. He hears the children calling for their fathers and he gets sad that there is no child running towards him to call him father. He expresses his feelings towards his minister Sumantra. He gets very emotional.
When he reaches his palace the queens are awaiting him to do the grah pravesh. He refuses and goes to a hall where there are statues of his ancestors. He speaks to them and says that he is sorry for his failure. He failed to give them a successor. Meanwhile the queens reach him and aks him what is wrong, why is he so worried? The king tells them that even he did won the battle, he cannot forget the moment that his enemy nearly killed him. He survived, but he worries about what would happen to his kingdom when he died? A king is not king only because he lives in the kings palace. He is king because he is the protector, the father, the judge of his nation. He is king because the people of the nation accept him as their king. He has to care for them, he is responsible for them. And when he succeeds, his reward is that one word of the king is enough and everyone will give their life for the king. For his victory. Sumitra tells the king that the nation is proud and happy with the king and his Raghu Vansh. The king answers that yes they are, but only till now. He asks his queens of his family tree, his raghu vansh, all the great man, all the great deeds of his ancestors like King Harischandra, will die out with him? He asks Sumita what answer he will give to his people. Why he failed them to give them a prince? He turns to the statues and says that he is their culprit and asks forgiveness. Gurudev Vashist stops him.
King Dasarat goes towards the gurudev and seeks his blessing. Vashist says that the king has no reason to ask his ancestors for forgiveness, because he will have a child, a successor, a prince. He has to organize a Putrakameshti Yagna. But for that he has to go to rishi Shringi, son of Sage Vibhandak. He warns the king to be carefull, the rishi has a high temper and he must not disturb him in his meditation. The king goes barefoots to the residence of the rishi and waits two days for the Rishi outside his house. The Rishi is in meditation and after two days Lord Vishnu appears before him.
Lord Vishnu says that the time has come: he will descend on earth, but the rishi has a task to do. The rishi is honored and asks for his task. Lord Vishnu tells him that he has to do a Putrakameshti Yagna for king Dasarath who is waiting for two days outside his house. The rishi goes to the king and tells him that he is ready to do the Putrakameshti Yagna
End scene: The Putrakameshti Yagna is going on and an half god appeares in the holy fire.
