As some of you may know, I run a channel of my own on YouTube, which has 95 videos from the serial. There are others who do it as well, some of whom appear on my Subscriptions list.

I have received 95 e-mails from YouTube that go like this (this is just an example ffrom 1 video: all the others are identical):
========================================================================
YouTube help center | e-mail options | report spam

Dear Vrishasena,

Your video, Shatrughan's rajyabhishek, may have content that is owned or licensed by ndtvimagine.

No action is required on your part; however, if you are interested in learning how this affects your video, please visit the Content ID Matches section of your account for more information.

Sincerely,
- The YouTube Team

========================================================================
So I checked that link about the content ID matching, and this is what it said:
========================================================================

Your video, Shatrughan's rajyabhishek , may include content that is owned or licensed by these content owners:

  • Content owner: ndtvimagine Type: Audiovisual content

What should I do?

No action is required on your part. Your video is still available worldwide. In some cases ads may appear next to your video.

What can I do about my video's status?

Please note that the video's status can change, if the policies chosen by the content owners change. You may want to check back periodically to see if you have new options available to you.

Under certain circumstances, you may dispute this copyright claim. These are:

  • if the content is mistakenly identified and is actually completely your original creation;
  • if you believe your use does not infringe copyright (e.g. it is fair use under US law);
  • if you are actually licensed by the owner to use this content.

I need more information. I want to learn more about the dispute process.

Please take a few minutes to visit our Help Center section on Policy and Copyright Guidelines, where you can learn more about copyright law and our Content Identification Service.

========================================================================
So I clicked on the link about the dispute process, and here is what it had.
========================================================================

There are very few valid reasons for disputing a claim. Please review the information below, because submitting an invalid dispute could result in penalties against your account.

Invalid reasons to dispute a claim

  • I own the CD / DVD or bought the song online.

    Buying a song, CD, DVD, or other piece of media doesn't give you authorization to post that content on YouTube. The content owner still has the right to choose where it is distributed.

  • The content was only a part of my video.

    In almost all cases, you need written permission from the content owner to use even part of their work in your video. Learn more about Copyright.

  • There are other videos on YouTube with the same content. Why can't I use it too?

    Copyright is all about the owner's right to decide who can use their content. Someone else's use doesn't give you permission.

  • I gave credit in the description. Isn't that enough?

    No. Giving credit does not give you authorization to upload the content.

  • I'm not selling my video or trying to make money.

    Whether or not you benefit financially from using the content doesn't matter. Unless you have permission from the owner, it's not yours to use.

I still need more information. Take me to the YouTube Copyright Help Center.

Valid reasons to dispute a claim

  • The content was misidentified.

    Your original content was misidentified; for example, your family picnic was mistakenly identified as a scene from The Godfather. Mistakes of this type are very rare but possible.

  • You have the right to use the content online.

    You have written permission from the content owner to use the material on YouTube.

  • Fair Use / Fair Dealing

    If you believe your use meets the legal requirements for exemption from copyright under appropriate law, you can dispute the claim. If you are unsure, you should seek legal counsel before submitting a dispute.

I have a valid reason to dispute this claim. Take me to the dispute form.

========================================================================
I've had a policy of rarely posting complete episodes, but only (albeit interesting) parts of episodes. That said, I do have enough videos, like Rama killing Ravan, that could be spoilers for anybody who decides to go to YouTube before buying the video. (Note that I'm not using the rationale that others do it, since it's already been listed as an invalid reason to dispute the claim)

So here is my question: Should they stay or should they go? I could have done it, but before that, I want to know what visitors to my site think, so that they don't get shocked all of a sudden. (I don't have anything else there, so if I lose these, I don't mind closing the channel)

P.S. If any of you are interested in these videos, you are better off downloading them before they are history, be it either due to me or YouTube!

Oh well, Rajshri.com is always there. We can watch them there. Personally, I will get the DVD when it comes out. So I am not worried about it.
Thanks Vrisha for letting us know what may happen to your videos.

According to the notice above, right now, it says 'No action needed', since apparently, the content owners, though identified, haven't requested that all such videos be gone. But I believe that YouTube generally issues notices to users giving them a time limit by which to remove them, otherwise they'd be gone - that's what happened to the first guy I saw who'd upload Ramanand Sagar's episodes weekly, until he announced that he had received such a notice. Then he took his own time in deleting them, which apparently exceeded such a deadline, by which time, his entire account was deleted. So there is no reason to believe that Rupali's, or anyone else's videos will be deleted, unless she actually receives a notice to remove them but ignores it/takes her own time in doing it.

Also, recently, a lot of people who've been uploading other NDTV Imagine serials daily, like KMH, Basera, et al have just had their accounts deleted, although some guys seem to have the rights in question. I have no idea whether they were issued any warnings and chose to ignore them, or whether YouTube just deleted their accounts. Problem w/ the above is that they don't offer any ways of contacting them (except the form by which to dispute a copyright), whereby one could either ask to contact the original content owners for 'limited permissions', or any other such arrangements.

Nonetheless, I posted this just to see not just what other uploaders like rupalip and same108 are doing, but to see what the general viewership thinks.

Oh well, I'll keep mine till you tube will delete my account, after I'm planning to download videos on another service. I was harassed by such letters since May 09. So far - so good.
But thank you for advising to download your videos, Vrisha. I'll start immediately. I like you videos and I'm telling story about Lavana to my readers now, so I'm using your videos.
