Yes, Ram's colour was dark - mostly referred as black. There is a poem in Kambaramayan in which Kamban says no one could determine his true colour - a very cute poem - one of my favourites in Kambaramayan.

Ayodhya Kandam - Gangai Padalam - The first poem of the chapter

Transliteration:

Veiyyon olli thanmeniyil virisodhiyin maraiya
Poiyo enum idaiyaallodum illaiyonodum ponaan
"Maiyo, maragadhamo, marikadalo, mazhai muhilo,
Aiyo, ivan vadivu!" anbadhor azhiya azhahu udaiyaan.

This poem describes Ram going into the forest with Sita and Lakshman.

Translation:

The Sun's rays merge (disappear) into the expanding glow of his skin. Along with the woman who seemed to have no hip (meaning that she was so graceful and thin) and his younger one he went. "Is it kajai ( I think that is the Hindi word for it)? Is it emarald? Is it the blue sea? Is it the rain clouds?? Oh! What a form he has!" - He has a form with untainted (indestructable) beauty that everyone wonders this way.

The analysis of the poem that was told to me by my Tamil Professor in college:

Ram was blackish in colour - black is the colour that absorbs all light. The reference probably means that all light gets absored into his form. In Tamilian culture, graceful women are often referred to this way - the ones considered graceful are the ones those who have a barely visible hiplines. Ram's skin colour was contemplated by all - they did not know whether it was black or emarald green (a kind of deep and dark greeen) or deep blue of the sea or the hue of the rain clouds.

I hope I have explained properly.

Thanks for the poem Vibhishna. It's very nice.😊

I'll discuss the snake part in the update thread, but continue where I left off yesterday on Rama's feelings.

Today, while Sita was feeding her kids, she was wondering whether Rama was eating. The scene then moved to Ayodhya and all 4 brothers were shown sitting together to eat. UMS came in with the 6 kids, and each parent had a kid either on his mom's lap, or sitting next to their pitashri. Kaushalya had prepared the meal for all of them, and they all began eating. (Have Kaikeyi and Sumitra completely left the family? Their absense is inexplicable - their grandkids are there, and they're not there to see them? 🤔)

As expected, seeing his brothers, s-i-ls and nephews, Rama's thoughts meandered towards Sita, and suddenly he imagined seeing her in royal attire next to the pillar. He asks her - Sita, where are my kids? Sita tells him, "Maharaj, you've sent them away to the forest". Rama cries out Sita, stunning everyone around him, and the reality sets in, and the imaginary Sita disappears. Rama then asks his family to continue eating, and says that he's no longer hungry, and gets up and leaves. A very poignant moment😭

The other scene they showed today - Valmiki leaves for Naimisharanya for a yagna (this is the place where Rama's fateful ashwamedha yagna was later to be held), and the old woman falls ill. Sita tells them that it doesn't look good, since only Valmiki knows what the medicines are that can cure her. Kush claims to know which herbs as well as he's seen them as well, and leaves with Luv to find and gather the herbs in question. The episode ends while they are in the forest looking for herbs, and hear a thunderous noise (a rakshasha perhaps?)

Well, if Kush & Luv can later defeat their kakashris, I guess it's not too much of a stretch to believe that they can identify the correct herbs, assuming that that's what happens tomorrow, even though they are only 5.

Thank you very much Vibs for the poem translation😊 as always very beautiful👏 Even in Valmiki Ramayan , there are few verses which describe Ramaji's color as a 'hue of rain-cloud'.

Today's epi was alright types. The scene where Ramji remembers Sita is always very touching , he must always be wondering how n where his kids n Sita must have been also wondering what naughty things his children must be doing...😭😭
The snake part n Kush seeting the snake free n praying for forgiveness belies their age n whatever shown was too much ugh!
Today K-L going in search for medicinal herbs reminded me of Ravan serial where Ravan n his siblings too go far away in search of herbs... but guess here somebody must be playing a prank on K-L because when they inform Sitaji of getting medicinal herbs ,some boy is sneaking thru the window..
Naimisharanya is the same forest where Ram conducts an Ashwamedha.

But Ananya

If the boy who informed them that the Nani-ji was ill was pulling a fast one on them, Sita and Nani-ji would have to be in on that deception. And they'd also know that the 2 kids would go off to the forest - precisely where they didn't want them to go. I strongly doubt that Sita and Nani-ji would participate in such a prank, particularly in the absense of Valmiki.

I agree with you that a 5 year old Kush praying to the Naga devta for forgiveness is too much, even if one were to assume that all those flaky Ramayan versions that we discussed yesterday were being used.

No I didn't mean Sitaji orNani participating in the prank , just guessed that some boys of the ashrama might be scaring K-L , as I said , a boy sneaks through the window n hears the conversation between Sitaji , K & L. again its a wild guess.

Thankyou people for feeling my absence 😉..... Am bucking up to be on the same page as you guys.....

I think the boy sneaking through the window was the one drawing water, and KL offer to help him but are informed that Nani is sick and run off to see her. There are chances that this boy is playing pranks at them.
Or how about the voice being the young Bhimasur's? Ooh....sounds interesting, uh?
Vibs - Excellent poem from Kambaramayanam. Thankyou so much!

in today's episode, the kids are so cute. they were holding hands when they were going together to find the herbs. 🤗

it was so so sad when raam was by himself and all his brothers and kids were eating. He then asks sita where his kids are, it was so sad when she says that they are in the forest and he leaves without eating.😭 😭😭😭 Also when he was remembering sita was very sad and kaushalya was trying to support him 😭😭😭.

Why does Kaushalya think that if she invites Rama to eat with his family, including nephews, he's not going to miss Sita and his kids? Had she asked him to eat only with his brothers, then Sita may not have come to mind. OTOH, it would have been unfair to the nephews to have them eat w/o their fathers.

Sad situation.😭😭😭

P.S. Ananya, I know that 13 is unlucky, but 1300? Congratulations! And hey, I told you you'd pass me😆😆😆

Thanks Sam1903, Lalitha Janaki, Ananya and Deepa. When I first heard the poem, I was lost into its beauty. It sounds so cute.

And Ananya, congrats on 1300 👏
