Yeah, I've always wondered - why are they divided on this? What is the compelling evidence that the Uttarkand wasn't in the original Ramayan?
And if it wasn't, how did Kush & Luv get to sing it first? Or is that also considered inauthentic?
i think in bhagvad puran the life of luv-kush & the lives of all the sons of lakshman, shatrughana & bharat is given !!!!
their lives hv been discussed in detail in bhagvad puran !!!!so the raghukul lineage has been discussed to the fullest in bhagvad puran !!!

Friends, I just realised something. Sometime before, there was a topic on whether one of the mountains in the Andaman Islands could have beed the famous Gandamana Mountain. I had thought that there is a good chance that one of the hills in the Andaman Islands could be the Gandhamana Mountain. I totally forgot about Rameshwaram.
Rameshwaram is a small town situated on an island near the mainland of TamilNadu. There is a hill by name Gandhamana near Rameshwaram about 2 or 3 km from there. It is the highest peak in the island. Also, a shrine of Sri Ram exists here. The footprints of Lord Ram placed on a chakra is found in the shrine. (I have long wanted to visit this place. 😍)Could this hill be the Gandhamana mountain?

Most scholars are divided on this issue because Balkand and Uttarkand are not consistent with each other ,with respect to certain incidents like story of Ahalya; Balkand says that Ahalya knowingly committed adultery while uttar kand says that she didn't know about Indra and was thus decieved.. The style of writing is also different .According to Brahmarishi PV Vartak Uttar Kand is very much a part of Ramayana and it completes the deficiencies of the main epic. He has done extensive research on Ramayana and has given scientific evidences to support it.Do read his book 'Vastav Ramayan' to find some amazing revealations.Alternatively visit this link :Here the author describes the life of Rama and Sita extensively and what prompts Valmiki to write Ramayana.Personally I believe Kush and Lav-sons of Sita -Rama and disciples of Brahmarishi Valmiki and they did sing Ramayana in front of their father , they were so accomplished in this task that they gave rise to the tradition of bards being known as 'Kushilava'
