Whoa ! So basically Nand baba was Krishna's badepapa/chachu. Mind absolutely blown ! That makes Yashoda maiya Krishna's mother from every point of view.😭❤️😭 Thank you for clarifying Radha's Rani designation. 😳
There's a theory that Nand kinda held a grudge against his father (read: Karna) for having abandoned him and not given him the recognition for the oldest child. He had to fend for himself by herding cows from a young age because his mom was a maid and his dad didn't give two hoots about him. That made him the fairest leader you could ever get and hence nobody called him mukhiya but accepted him as Nand-baba.
Also, this makes Nand's sacrifice so much more worthwhile. As per SB, Vasudeva and Nand had a conversation on that fateful night, and it was Nand's coscious decision to give up his new-born daughter in spite of knowing that he would never ever get a chance at kids again (they had been suffering through infertility for a long time, and Yogmaya was even medically a miracle baby).
Even then, he never held a grudge against Krishna OR Vasudeva, and kept practically 3/5th of his family safe even at such a great risk to himself (Kans). And, he raised both the boys to be the best, most non-biased human beings and excellent politicians. Basically Krishna and Balarama were his final answer to the extremely narrow-minded society that systematically suppressed the likes of him.
Also, he kept Rohini and Balarama shielded from the rest of the people, because divine or not, people talked (Balarama's parentage). Basically he's an amazing amazing human being who never ever gets enough credit! We should love him more!
And, he did try to get Radha and Krishna married, but it was Krishna's call to get Radha married to Ayan since he wasn't sure if he could make it in the Yadava society, with people talking and what not and figured she would be safer with Ayan. Also Ayan was a transgender, so in that age, who cared.
