An attempt at something new. Do let me know what you think.
Asya SS: Abbu...
He lay on top of his car, just like every other day, waiting. Waiting for his life to give him another chance. Life had been unfair to him by taking away the most precious thing to him, his Zoya. He stared towards the footpath, his eyes yearning for her one glance. She promised, he reminded himself. She said she'll come; she'll give me another chance and embrace me with open arms. A lone tear escaped his eyes, it reluctantly travelled down his cheek and onto the 18 year old letter he was holding. He took his other hand and wiped the tear. His eyes gazed at the words that were highlighted by the wet patch; Don't come after me, you have my promise. His heart ached raw once again, just like it did 18 years ago.
I won't ask you to forget me because I want you to remember what you've done to me. Asad whacked his head against his car, guilt overflowing his eyes. He pressed his eyes shut as the sudden rain drops attacked his face, his lips quivered; Almighty, my tears are not fake. His body slid off the car and fell against the floor. A sudden noise made him jump; his eyes shot wide as saucers as he looked towards the road,
'Zoya?' He whispered...
'Oii, are you listening to me?' Shouted Zoya, she picked up an apple and threw it across the room.
'Ouch' Ayaat yelped, 'Are you practising to be India's next bowler?' She retorted,
'Yes, something like that' Smiled Zoya, 'Why do you seem so lost, since you've come back from your jog, you've gone quiet and that is so unlike you-'
'Because I go after your loud self Ammi' Laughed Ayaat, she got up and hugged her mother from the back. 'I love you Ammi, I'm off...' She kissed her mother's cheeks. Zoya turned around and kissed her daughter's forehead,
'May Allah bless you with success and prosperity' She caressed her face, 'It's only a placement, so don't stress yourself out. Enjoy your first day and give me a call, okay?' She handed her lunch bag, 'And please take care of yourself' Zoya rushed behind Ayaat, she waved from the door leaning against it and sighing. Zoya closed the door and walked towards the sofa. She picked her diary from the side table and sat down,
'Happy Anniversary Asad...' She whispered lying back, her fingers stroked his face on their old wedding picture, 'It's been 19 years since our marriage. I can't believe we spent 18 years of that away from each other. I know I was angry at you for what you did, but life did not give me another chance to come back into your life. Little did I know that once I decide to come out of your life, I would have to stay away. I still love you Asad, no matter what she tells you. I forgave your mistake 18 years ago, but I guess God did not. I'm just happy to know that wherever you are, you're safe...' She looked to her side to find her phone ringing,
'Ammi?' Ayaat spoke softly,
'Yes beta, what happened? Are you okay?'
'Ammi, I'm sorry! I broke your promise...' Confessed Ayaat.
'It's okay, it doesn't matter!'
'Yes, it does. I went to that park for a jog today Ammi. I know you told me not to go that side, I'm sorry Ammi. Please forgive me...' She cried,
'Ayaat? Is there something you're not telling me?' Zoya asked.
'I saw this man. And he thought I was you...'
'Ayaat...' Zoya whispered, 'Who was he?' She shivered,
'I don't know Ammi, but he saved me. But no wait, Ammi I think he's that Akdu boss everyone was talking about...'
'What? Ayaat... come home beta... hello?' Zoya screamed down the phone and before she knew it she was out of breath. 'Ayaat, come home... Ayaat?' She put the phone down and dialled again, however, it wasn't connecting. She paced towards the kitchen and grabbed her car keys; she rummaged through the kitchen draws for her inhaler. She ran out of the house in haste not being able to find her inhaler, she started her car and drove as fast as she could.
'Hello Sanaya... What's the address for Ayaat's work place sweetie?' She spoke through her Bluetooth.
'Auntie, it's Dilshad Constructions...' Replied Sanaya as she dictated the address. Zoya held the steering wheel tighter as she prayed to get to her daughter.
'I thought it was DZ Connect?' Zoya mentally scolded herself for being so careless.
'DZ Connect is part of Dilshad Constructions auntie'
'Okay, thanks beta. Bye' Zoya hung up as she speeded up. She started to sweat as her breathing shortened; she searched the car for her emergency inhaler. She tried reaching for the bag that was under the passenger seat, she removed her seatbelt to reach for it better and before she knew it she lost control of the car. She shot upright and tried straightening the car up only for her to realise she was on the wrong side of the road, she swerved to the left. It got difficult for her to breathe, her eyes went blurry. She was shocked as she looked to her right; her eyes were deceiving her for sure. She blinked as her eyes met his momentarily before everything went dark. Her car crashed violently against a tree; Zoya's head hit the steering wheel with force before she went flying out of the door.
'ZOOYAAA' Asad screamed as he jumped out of his car, his voice thundered making everything around him come to a standstill. He stood above her body, his body shivering as he stared at her; she was bleeding all over. He fell to his knees; he took his hands and caressed her forehead. He dabbed her forehead to stop her from bleeding, he brought his fingers back to his lips. His bloodshot eyes drenched his face as his tears overflowed from his eyes and fell onto her face.
'Zoya, listen to me... you'll be fine. Stay with me...' He cried, 'Someone call an ambulance 'He pleaded. 'I've only just found you, don't leave me...' He cradled her, holding her against his chest. His lips lingered on her forehead. His lips trembled as he lifted her lifeless body and ran towards his car.
'Stay with me Zoya...'
And if we ever meet, we'll understand that Allah wants to give us another chance.
