Chapter 3a
Zoya was packing her and Adil's stuff early the next morning. Adil came and gazed at her through the door way. Sleep disturbed his eyes as he tried to shhooo it away by rubbing them intently.
"Mom! We are going somewhere?" He inquired. Zoya, startled for a moment, looked up at him.
"Come here Adi!" She signaled him to come sit in her lap.
"We are leaving this place for a few days to live with Areej aunty."
"But why mom?" He asked innocently.
"Mama has left the job and this house came with it."
"Why did you leave the job mom?" His question worried her but she didn't want to lie to him.
"It was becoming very difficult for me, besides I couldn't give you much time."
"I know its your boss."
She gaped in utter shock.
"How do you know?"
"You were never pleased with his calls these days, he aint a good guy na?"
She smiled sadly. Even this little soul could see her discomfort; she kissed his forehead.
"Go change and get ready."

Zoya settled on the couch in Areej's lounge. Areej, her childhood friend, slim and smart in a very manner not of a mother of two kids. She had been a support throughout Zoya's life, through every thick and thin, through every downfall and through every success. She had been one constant source of constructive, positive thinking for Zoya. Not a friend but more of a sister. You are just like my family.' She used to quote every time Zoya felt she had no one in the world.
"I am glad you finally made this decision Zoya. I know it was difficult for you to do Par Allah Koi rasta nikal de ga!" She coaxed Zoya handing her the butter dipped almond cake she knew Zoya loved.
(Allah will guide you through your way.)
"Shayad nikal chukka hai."
(May be he has already done that.)
"Matlab?"
(Meaning?)
"I think I have decided what I want to do..." And Zoya elaborated the threads of her plans to Areej who went silent after hearing them. After a long pause she finally managed,
"Yeh bohat bara step ho ga Zoya, I am very scared for you. Ayan Khan is that filthy rich tyrant who can go to any extent to harm people, I think you better stay away from him... after all now he must be adamant to destroy you..."
"I know but I have decided to take this risk... I need to make one last attempt and besides this fear and alarm was there in my life for a long time now... therefore I had applied for Adil and my VISAs last year, we might soon fly..." She scuffed. "Rather flee to the states soon..."
"What? Aur tum yeh sub kuch mujhe abhi bata rahi ho?"
(And yo are telling me now.)
Areej was clearly disappointed and more than that shocked.
"I am sorry, I never wanted this to happen... I wanted to get Adil operated from her but rightnow he is under a constant threat with me... I cant take that risk.. he is all I have... you don't know uski beemari mujhe roz larti hai... I want him protected, hale and hearty like all other children his age..."
(His disease kills me every day.)
She started sobbing like a broken, wrecked being.
"Don't cry... Sab theek ho jaye ga!" Areej hugged her tight.
(Everything is going to be alright.)
Just 5 months back the sky fell on Zoya when the doctors informed her that her life, her five year old son had a hole in his little heart. He needed to be operated an open heart surgery to remove it. Since then Zoya left no stone unturned in gathering up each penny that would save his dear life. But fate wasn't very fortunate for her yet again. And now Ayan had become a serpent in her life, she found it hard to keep all her pieces together.
Her heart tore apart every time she saw her little son unable to breathe properly, unable to eat properly, his under nourished existence brought salty water in her eyes. Whenever she compared him with other children his age she wanted to be a magician who could cure him by the swing of a wand.
But reality strikes and it strikes hard. She was also adamant to overcome any hurdle and obstacle which came in her and her son's life's way.
