I very rarely judge a scene without watching it, however recent interviews and the precap for today's episode is prompting me to write this. It is admirable that Gul, Mrinal and co wanted to deliver a social message about the increasing number of rapes in our country. However, I believe while you have got part of the message right you have completely discounted a woman's responsibility for herself. And by this I mean Zoya's sheer stupidity in running off to see a celebrity who doesn't know or care about her, during a strike. It was incredibly immature
Delena,
I am not sure if you have watched all the relevant episodes...because this is not how I see it...😳
1. Zoya has not been ever shown to be a mature, responsible adult...if she had been, Mangalpur and its horror would not have happened... Like Asad judged her right...it could be handled better...but she has her way of doing things...HER SENSE OF RIGHT AND WRONG...which is IN NO WAY BEING GLORIFIED BY THE TEAM either!.
2. Going off to see a celebrity cannot be termed a teenage behaviour...it is upto each of us what we choose to run after or spend our free time with...some decide to go for drugs, some for money, some for religion, some find pleasure in work...some in sports and entertainment...
For eg. Me spending time discussing a show on a forum is considered very juvenile by the mature adults around me...so I don't judge Zoya running off to see Dhoni. It is not like she missed an exam or braved many hardships to get there...SHE USED PUBLIC TRANSPORT...and they were not on strike. Only cabs and autos were on strike.
If I want to go for a movie on a cab strike, I will use the Public Transport...I don't see anything abnormal about that. I WILL AGREE THATZZOYA DID NOT HAVE FORESIGHT...She simply DID NOT KNOW that the buses might not run on time, late in the evening...HAPPENS!
She is not used to Bhopal. And Najma was very apologetic that she had forgotten to tell Zoya that.
Let us even look past that - nothing stopped Zoya from calling her Mr. Khan before her battery died - requesting he pick her up, now did it? Zoya put herself in a situation where she was forced to ask a stranger to drop her home - a completely avoidable situation. Zoya was lucky she wasn't raped! Then you have her being totally oblivious to her own stupidity by excusing Rajveer's behavior and completely twisting Asad's concern towards her.
Zoya was trying to call Mr. Khan when she realised the battery was dead...so.
, I guess she never knew when it died actually- happens to me all the time.😳
Zoya never excused her stupidity...ALL SHE SAID WAS- DON'T MAKE SUCH A BIG DEAL OUT OF THIS! That was because of Asad's under the belt remark of 'HOW SMART SHE CONSIDERS HERSELF'- very clever dialogue by the Cvs...if he had not said that, she'd have remained apologetic...he had no business bringing in a comment like that.
We all consider ourselves smart...however when someone tries to insult you with a remark like that, that too in front of a stranger and the rest of family...I personally didn't feel Zoya would shut up...I would have reacted the same way, in fact. Instead of expressing even one word of relief at seeing her- he starts JUDGING her...when u r back from such an ordeal- that is the LAST THING you'd want from a loved one...A hug and a kiss and a "R U OK>?" followed by a burst of 'ARE U OUT OF YOUR MIND'- would have gotten him a Zoya ashamed of herself. He totally pushed her into another space.
as a young woman I go out a lot too - whether it's out for a drink or a party - I do these things too, but that doesn't mean I don't make sure that I have a safe and reliable way to come home every time. We are all responsible for our own safety. All of us don't have a lover/husband running to come and save us every time we are in a sticky situation. Part of being an adult is about knowing the difference between being independent and being reckless. And Zoya was reckless. The complete message would have been you pointing out that NO definitely means NO and that you need learn to be responsible. With independence comes the need of being able to assess situations and priorities. Zoya showed a complete lack of understanding there. You definitely needed/need a scene where Zoya acknowledges how wrong her behavior was/is and understand that there could have been very severe consequences to it.
I agree with you totally. We are responsible for ourselves. And that scene you wanted- where Zoya takes responsibility- DID PLAY ALREADY- she told him, main bhi dar gayi thee, Mr. Khan! I don't know why that was missed in the din of all the analyses...the point is, ZOYA APOLOGISED FIRST...followed by Asad. That itself shows that SHE IS AWARE OF THE RECKLESSNESS THAT COULD HAVE COST HER A LOT...the rest of what followed was due to ASAD RAKING UP THE ISSUE AGAIN- an apology was said and given...
WHAT IS THE POINT OF NITPICKING AFTER THAT? That is why Zoya is so upset...BUT she starts to realise, 'Mr. Khan was right!'
No woman deserves to be raped but in our depraved society it is a reality - the judicial system and society doesn't sympathize with victims as evidenced by the juvenile being sentenced to a remand home for his heinous crime. So, we as women can at least ensure our own safety in whatever way we can. I don't mean stay at home. Go out, party, watch a movie whatever but always make sure you have a safe and secure way to come home. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Totally agree with you here. Zoya is usually armed with her pepper spray, and this is the first time she strayed out so far in the night...it was a once in a blue moon thing, and she was lucky to have escaped...many of us are, to have narrowly escaped situations like that.😊
And I think the message the CVs are trying to show is very important too...No one has the right to judge a woman according to what she wears or what she chooses to do...if she was out at a night club, the same thing could have happened to her, doing what is considered a perfectly normal adult behaviour.
