And she opened her eyes.
A pair of brilliant green with speckles of gold surrounding the iris stared right into his steel gray eyes.
A cute pink rose to her pale cheeks, as she realised what was happening.
Helping her straighten up, Asad smiled politely at the girl, before saying, "It's alright!"
Realising her mistake, the girl said softly, with a sheepish smile, "Sorry.. Yeah."
Asad smiled again, as he pulled his tray out of the counter and made his way to the stairs, with a mind to follow Seth.
"Excuse me?"
"Yes?," Asad turned to see the same girl, coming up to him and blinking unsurely.
"Aren't you the new guy?," said the girl, looking somewhat embarrassed of asking the question itself.
Asad's mouth lifted to form a small smile, as he leaned slightly forward and said in a whisper-like tone, "Am I that obvious?" He pretended to look innocent.
The girl giggled, while looking down and looked back up at him, before copying him and saying, "And if I say that 'it is'?" She raised her eyebrows in askance.
Asad straightened, with narrowed eyes, and a thoughtful pout on his mouth, as he mock-assessed her. "Then, I'll believe you!"
She laughed, before shaking her head in disbelief. "Okay! That was.. totallyLame!," she said as she turned to her side to continue to walk.
Asad took the cue and fell into step with her, as he shrugged his shoulders casually. "What can I say? I tend to say lame things, when am veryHungry!," he nodded to his tray.
As she followed his gaze, her eyes widened as she took in the sight of the tray filled with food overflowing to the edges. "You're going to eat all ofthat?!," she said before she could stop herself from shrieking out loud.
Her eyes looked like it would bulge out any second, as her hand flew to close her mouth when realisation seeped in.
Asad chuckled as he led the way to the canteen grounds, and took a seat at the far corner of the ground. "As a matter of fact, yes," he nodded.
"Oh my God! I'm so sorry!," the girl shook her head in an apology. "I shouldn't have said it all so loud!"
"Are you going to sit or not?," Asad asked the girl as she still stood there with her tray in her hands.
"First, say you forgive me?"
"What?" Asad's eyebrows furrowed in disbelief. "Why?"
"Because I almost embarrassed you?," her voice dropping to lower tones, while uttering every word. "In front of the whole school?"
Chuckling, Asad pulled the girl's hand down to make her sit opposite him. "You didn't."
"I did!"
"No, you didn't!"
"But I did!," the girl argued back.
"How can something be embarrassing to me, when I don't find it to be so?," Asad said as he bit into his sandwich. "What the hell is this?," he exclaimed as he stared at the sandwich in disgust.
"Yeah, that's the 'cheese and ham' sandwich or whatever!," she shrugged her shoulders in a matter-of-fact way.
"Shit! It's all shit that these people serve!," said Asad as he nonetheless bit into the sandwich again.
"Then why are you eating it?"
"'Cause apparently I am very hungry! I can eat you up too!," he said, his hand waving in the air, carelessly pointing at her.
The girl's ears turned bright red as the words registered. "I- I- W-What were we- we t-talking about before?," she said, desperately trying to change the topic.
Asad smiled softly, at the tray, before looking up and saying, "Embarrassment? Like you are going through now?," nodding at her with an eyebrow raised.
"Yeah! So w- why didn't you feel embarrassed?," she said, before closing her eyes at her stupidity of asking such a lame question. "And I wasn't embarrassed!," she clarified.
She heard him chuckle, making her open her eyes. A slow smile spread on her face, "What?"
"I told you that it all doesn't affect me, girl!," as he opened the can of his diet pepsi. "Is this all that we get here in school? Diet Pepsi? Seriously? I would rather have Vodka for breakfast, than drink that!," scrunching up his face in disgust, before dumping it in the nearest dust bin.
"Hey wait a second? I don't know your name?," Asad turned suddenly to look at the girl suddenly blushing. He blinked and cocked his head to one side slightly, wondering why on Earth was she blushing so much!
"Sorry," she said sheepishly, before extending her hand. But she pulled it back to wipe off the smear of butter from her hand on a tissue, before extending it again. "I'm Noah. Noah Seygier. Senior Year in Illyria High," proudly.
Taking her hand in his, he shook her hand firmly, like he learnt to do from his father.
Dad..
Blinking hard, and kicking back the stray thought into the depths of his brain, he opened his eyes to smile boyishly, at the pretty face of Noah, and said, "Asad. Asad Riyaasat."
