Out of all the Indian TV shows that I have watched..and I have watched quite a few, this is the ONLY one with a good storyline. This show has to offer great content IMO! Yes, maybe the issues they have been dealing with in these past few epis have been too huge and delicate for them to handle. Even though I hate the whole hitting Zoya track, and how that has played out, we can to some extent say that what they have shown has been quite realistic

In real life, women, no matter how educated or modern, allow themselves to be abused, and don't speak up. Gul Khan or the PH never said that these characters are supposed to be your idols, or that their actions should be followed, as whatever they do is right. NO. She just wanted to tell a story, I presume, not supporting any social cause or issue, but just depicting reality. And the reality is not beautiful and how we like it to be, its harsh and ugly.

I have been against the way this track has been played out, but I realized that maybe there is another way to look at it.

That is a very mature way to look at things. Beautiful post.
I completely agree with you. It's very realistic, these things do happen, not that it's right ofcourse. But it's about telling a story.

I agree, it's a portrayal of what happens in real life today. So I think we should accept it and see how things move about. :)

Good post! :D

They are extending the characters the way they are portrayed, they made it clear from begining No one is perfect, one is living with some idiology and its theirs, but that by no means is perfect..
Anyway I dont think anyone is perfect no matter what, and all of our decisions/views are blinded by lot of emotions or responsibilities or principles. Every person have different priorities and ones decision or views can never be right for all..

Actually, I wouldn't have minded if they depicted the slap issue as an unacceptable reality... that this happens in real life but is not acceptable among civilized people. But by just casually brushing away this issue, they have made it seem like it is no big deal if it happens; it almost seems to be portrayed as an acceptable reality.

agree with you.asads character and behavoiur is just a part of the story.that is how his character is.we can like him or dislike him.but we have to accept his sometimes aberrant behaviour as part of his personality.if all characters were ideal, there would be no conflict toh phir story kaise banti?

Isn't it scary that women don't speak up? And isn't the show reinforcing that it is OK not to speak up because I did not see her say anything to him that it was not OK for him to slap her. A production house has a huge responsibility not perpetrate any myth or belief that if a man loves you he has the right to slap you, that he has a haq over you to treat you this way. Neither a friendship or love can be healthy that is built on this type of relationship. Too many impressionable young females watch this show and will simply have the belief reinforced that this was all acceptable. If my boyfriend is cute and he does this - he must love me..

When he comes to apologize and this is romanticized further...that is all the more dangerous. This is even more so when we the young woman brush this off as normal, joke about it and carry on as business as usual giving the person an open invitation to treat them this way again.

Sure it is a show...but in the world of media, the media has such a powerful influence. We have enough studies that have been published since the advent to films and tv to show that what is presented can change and/or reinforce thoughts and belief systems.

Thank you for that!!!! There lies the crux! Just because it's a "reality" it doesn't mean we have to accept it! No one is saying that they should not depict abuse on TV shows. Lord knows we need realistic TV! But the bottom line is the treatment of the situation. And in this case I am afraid it trivialized and normalized the violence and was disturbingly regressive.
