i think they needed to show asad realizing not that he was wrong for blaming zoya but rather realizing "oh my god, i actually hit her, what have i become?" but they didnt show that. and now they are just going to act as tho it didnt happen.

this has nothing to do with any social message as people seem to think, its just really bad story telling

I wouldn't have had such a problem if they were to address the isssue in the right way, to give out the right message of awareness, with the current state of affairs in India...that's the least they could have done,to show that these things do happen in reality but you dnt have to put up with it,a stand can be taken. At the very least Zoya should have been shown to take a firmer stand in voicing her opinions too of her treatment as she has sbeen portrayed as a stong, independant women and not a woman who is helpess, meak and shy or scared of what societey has to say, and ASad defo, could have been shown to feel more remorseful and ashamed at what he did.It would have been more understandable if Asad was to be shown as the more grey character from the beginning, one who had issues, who wasn't the ideal man that a woman would love due to his bad habits and ways...then comes Zoya's entry in his life and then you know the rest...love changes him for the better. Here we have had Asad from the beginning to be shown as disciplined, well mannered,a man of principles, who's had a very good upbringing by a lovely, doting mother...etc,etc...so to have a man such as this ,behave with that level of aggression is what I'm finding a little hard to digest as it does seem out of place going by the picture we had painted of him going by his initial character sketch.
Having said all that doesn't mean that I have lost total interest in the show as there is quite a lot going on in the show other than the love story ,and the supporting cast all are a tremendous bunch of talent and I am finding Razia's character really inetersting and intriguing...the actress playing it is doing a brilliant job as the shows vampy and this show still has a long way to go as it's still early days.

That is what is missing along with some very serious essential elements...it's this gaping hole now on the show that has ruined it for a lot of us. Fine, if you have to show a slap, then at least teach the audience that it is NOT OK - that a man has no right to slap a young girl no matter what the circumstances and that all this abuse is unacceptable. Show the girl standing up and saying it is wrong. Show a genuine apology. Show a mother unhappy at learning her son did something wrong.

But the writers just did and then brushed it off as if it was no big deal. That's the problem that I see. Some people really do not care...but those who do I see as those who do not think slapping is a big deal, cute and perfectly acceptable in a relationship. That is why they do not understand why we feel this way and think we are annoying pests on this forum.

Everything was so out of character for him I totally agree.

I too have not lost complete interest in the show..Alka K. is one fabulous actress...as a former student I watch her scenes religiously...she is the elder sister of Varun B. I watched another really awful show because of him...as a former student these two are just worth watching...and Alka's urdu is just brilliant - you would think she spoke it naturally.

Hmm...your post made me think. There probably is another way to look at it.
I think the reason why I reacted so strongly on the slap was probably because I can relate to the shows content. Usually a show doesn't effect me and I can easily brush it off however QH is different.

I'm still not happy with the aftermath of Asad's slap, I still wish for more remorse and deeper regret from Asad but for now im letting it go.

Agree - this is reality still in India. I think a lot of viewers based outside India find it very hard to digest/connect. The whole Haseena bhi's family taunting nukhat about her skin color is also very much reality. Irrespective of how educated the bride is, Indians are still obsessed about skin color.

And yes - loving the story line. I think balika vadhu is also one serial where the story telling has been at its best - no wonder ppl love it.

yes! the skin colour thing still happens..it happens with me too, when I go to India.

And unfortunately, so does the abuse, and the reaction to the abuse.

Actually, I wouldn't have minded if they depicted the slap issue as an unacceptable reality... that this happens in real life but is not acceptable among civilized people. But by just casually brushing away this issue, they have made it seem like it is no big deal if it happens; it almost seems to be portrayed as an acceptable reality.

I agree with you to an extent..yes, it has been brushed aside almost too quickly, but even today, when India has faced so many issues, especially recently, there has not been enough change. And obviously it is not an acceptable reality, but it is definitely, THE reality.

Isn't it scary that women don't speak up? And isn't the show reinforcing that it is OK not to speak up because I did not see her say anything to him that it was not OK for him to slap her. A production house has a huge responsibility not perpetrate any myth or belief that if a man loves you he has the right to slap you, that he has a haq over you to treat you this way. Neither a friendship or love can be healthy that is built on this type of relationship. Too many impressionable young females watch this show and will simply have the belief reinforced that this was all acceptable. If my boyfriend is cute and he does this - he must love me..

When he comes to apologize and this is romanticized further...that is all the more dangerous. This is even more so when we the young woman brush this off as normal, joke about it and carry on as business as usual giving the person an open invitation to treat them this way again.

Sure it is a show...but in the world of media, the media has such a powerful influence. We have enough studies that have been published since the advent to films and tv to show that what is presented can change and/or reinforce thoughts and belief systems.

OF COURSE it's scary..EXTREMELY scary, that women don't speak up! But the truth is that most women DON'T speak up! Women SHOULD speak up. Hell, obviously the man cannot justify his actions no matter how many times he apologizes. But the reality is that men apologize; they keep on apologizing, but if he has done it once, it is highly likely that he will do it again. Zoya was wrong to brush him off and make a joke of the situation. I myself hated how she handled it..but women, in reality, no matter how educated, DO NOT realize they are being abused, until the situation gets out of hand. Having said that, Zoya IS NOT a victim of abuse yet. She has been abused once, but hopefully if it happens again, she will speak up..though I highly doubt it will happen again.

Yes, people get influenced by what they are shown on TV and from the media..I am a firm believer in that. However, this show was not made to send any social message. Gul Khan and the PH is merely telling a story. ONE story. NOT the right story or the wrong story..but if you think about it, she is depicting reality. According to me, the PH has a responsibility, but I think most of us are smart enough to not believe everything that happens in QH is true. Aise toh Razia asked someone to shoot Dilshad, but she isn't getting punished for it. Most of us have sense enough to know, that just cause Razia did it, does not mean its fine. Therefore, just cause Asad did something, doesn't make it fine. I know some viewers are young, but hopefully they too have this much sense, or they will learn it from somewhere else. QH is not a school.

Having said that, there are many MANY extremely popular shows, that depict negative storylines, with a hint of positiveness to them. Here are some examples:

- Homeland: A CIA Agent falls in love with a terrorist. In this show the audience is made to sympathize with the terrorist. It is an amazing show, and I love it, but almost everyone who watches the show is prolly aware that you don't sympathize with terrorists.

- The Vampire Diaries: Damon USED Caroline as a blood bank in the first season, & no he did not really get punished for it. We can say wth..they are vampires..they are fiction. Well, so is this show.

- Chicago Fire: Lt. Casey's mom murdered her dad..and no he did not abuse her. Now she is back, living in her husband's house, like a normal person.

My point is, what is being shown is NOT okay. But its fiction and people are aware of it being fiction. If they are not, then they should not be watching TV shows altogether!
