Okay I dont know much about islam so I dont make any claims about that but I do know more about Hinduism. Hinduism does not have a dress code (in fact there are no restrictions besides refraining from eating beef). There is no enforcement of any dress code. We are allowed to wear whatever we like. You can go to the temple wearing jeans (in fact I have) if you wish and a lot of people do because faith has nothing to do with clothes (that wasnt a snide remark but thats just how we look at it). Women had a lot more freedom thousands of years ago and not to mention respect. We were equals. But later things took a turn for the worse. Restrictions were placed on hindu women...so many restrictions but understand that these restrictions are culturally influenced, it has nothing to do with religion. In my family, we have no such restrictions at all. What one wears has nothing to do with their relationship with god.

I totally agree with you cocojatti92 (sorry I don't know your name).. I live in the UK and am studying at university.. I wears jeans to university as its what everyone wears and also because you have to integrate and adjust with time... I'd probably get more attention for wearing Shalwar Kameez to uni that jeans as I'd stand out and Islam says to dress so you don't attract peoples attention so the better thing to do is wear Jeans...That doesn't make me a bad muslim... I pray five times a day and wear a scarf...
Asad has too wear a suit as it's an office... you'd have no choice and I don't think he has much of a problem with Najma wearing jeans- he said that if you have to change yourself to please others thjen there's no point..as with Najma-she wants to wear jeans because others are wearing them not because she herself wants too...

I wanna say something here.Typically my belief of religion, you do not try to impose your views neither do I .Respect everyone's traditions ,culture, and religion whether you have the tendency to agree or not. Nisha is right Hinduism has no dress code . In fact, there is no book for any regulation. All Hinduism says is you should be good others, and Karma will follow you depending on what u did, that's all.Hinduism regulations are more passed down, and imposed either due politics or to their advantage.😃I mean women during Vedad Period enjoyed more rights than man .It's the Brahamans who imposed restrictions on women because they did not like equality women were getting. It's has nothing to do with religions.😆How I know all this? Took a religion class in school due to my interest ,and am a Hindu.😳I don't think how you dress counts, but ur actions do.I wear jeans, shorts ,and dresses. I don't think I am breaking religion's law or it will count how I am as a person.😃

i repect ur POV.i dont know about hindusim.i just wrote my statement about hindusim by keeping in mind the things which are shown in some indian serials..and yah hindus dont know about muslims culture and muslims dont know about hindu's culture.so why ppl are discussing religion and culture of muslims here and questioning that muslims religion dont give freedom to women..we should better stop arguing each other.😊

I didnt say that muslims dont give freedom to women...that wasnt what I was saying at all. All I have been saying is that Asad is being a hypocrite in forcing his sister to do something that he wont.
And I dont think dejaVu meant it that way.
Btw, Indian serials show very little of what is actually agreeable with hinduism. They mostly just show cultural restrictions and how women deal with it etc etc. Devon ke dev is the only show I have seen that actually talks about hinduism and it is a very good show in my opinion.
P.S. we arent arguing we are just having a healthy discussion. I dont know much about your culture so you enlightened me and you dont know much about mine so I enlightened you.
Anywyas, cya I am gonna go watch bill maher now. 😃

Somy 😊

Trust you to make a post that gets such fantastic reactions.😊

to all 🤗 It is really great and quite interesting to read different views (side note.. I am a Hindu.. brought up in big city but with extended family scattered across small/big towns/cities... and I did not like the chart posted).

I don't think there is a right and wrong answer here. Influence of religion and culture discussions are always subjective. It comes down to idealism vs realism. (or what's considered "modern" )

Asad's comments on being modern ..is in the mind.. was bang on.. but how much would we see that practiced..is up to CV's.

Though we all agree that clothes do not make a person, but we all know that in today's world, a person with visible tattoo, eyebrow piercing, and what have you.. ..would not get hired in a conservative corporate culture. There is a reason why some businesses enforce dress code policy.

By same note.. someone in creative fields can get away with a lot more.

We don't know what Asad's work place is. Is he a businessman ? I don't know. I will give him a benefit of doubt.

The question of Najma wearing jeans to visiting a social meeting place, can not be used as an argument to how Asad dressed up for office..a professional place. IMO.

His comments to Najma.. appeared to me.. like a big brother watching out for lil sis. I have a big brother. I respect him and sometimes wary of getting him upset. All through my teen years and even now, he comments on me wearing makeup, or dress a certain way. It was always annoying. Did I always give in..No.

In the show, I can see that Najma may sneak out and do things Asad is asking her not to do. The show has just started. I am sure these scenes will start showing up.

Asad's comments on Zoya .. when she was dressed as a bride .. were not unwarranted. If a girl (or a guy) was walking down a road dressed up in all wedding finery.. trust me ..they will get stared at EVERYWHERE in this world. Even in Zoya's NYC.

Asad's comment on asking Zoya to keep her eyes down and using poorab vs paschim argument.. is the one I did not like. This is where his arrogance or anger or double standards comes into play.

If he truly believes, modernism is in the thinking, that statement makes him a hypocrite...even if said in anger.

Lamba ho gaya... kya karoon aadat se majboo..Jaani 😆

Actually at first I felt very angry at the jeans dialogue by Asad

then I realized that the scene was shown just to imply that he is a bit orthodox and he himself will get a shock of her life when he falls for a jeans girl😆
