interesting.. so the younger generation spends a lot on gifts??? I've never had a spontaneous gift in my life.. its always been choose something.. should I be jealous of the younger generation or glad that I don't end up with stuff I don't want??

She is doing her graduation in English literature. This is third year.

Since childhood, she is more attached to me than to her mother.

Children has the special gift to ask about any thing - why ?

once answered, again why ? why ? Why ? why ? etc.

After 4-5 why, she used to get a slap at her cheeks from her mother.

But I never did that because , once upon a time, I was a child also.

After 4-5 why, I used to surrender telling - " My knowledge is limited to this, now u think what the answer should be."

true.. I think the 'why' is what makes children interesting.. they make us think of things I never have...

Shanthi..Anu..AK...so glad you are taking part in this cathartic discussion... Have you guys read Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri or seen the movie? I highly recommend it...

I get confused easily since I live so far away from my original home... In the last few years all the weddings (subcontinental) I have attended have been between girls from our countries with Americans (NOT South East Asian guys from the subcontinent) ... there is a trend to snub Desi guys completely... Now I am not part of a huge desi community here...and I don't see anything wrong in the intercultural interracial inter-religious marriages... I am just curious why that shift is taking place...

Wonder if it's hard for the Desi guys to keep up with the new materialistic "one-up" trend OR is it the "get married to the whole family" in Indian culture they do not like OR just plain the stereotype of the Asian dominating male they want to avoid ... I don't know...maybe it's just LOVE ...who knows... but it's an interesting trend to watch🤓

i don't know how I came to this from the PKDH Lau discussion... oh..bcos I watch Indian serial kind of to keep in touch with my roots and I am quite confused by what I see... okay I'll end my rambling here...

I have read "Namesake".. it was wonderful.. such a wonderful write up of the confusion..

Don't know about girls growing up overseas.. but my relatives in India say girls have become demanding.. they specify how much salary the groom has to earn and that is only one of them.. they apparently reject guys for absolutely no reason.
